  6. This thread is such a marvellous wander through the history of this hobby. I hope that it can be saved for future generations to read once Tony and the rest of us of mature years have gone to the great layout room in the sky. It would be a shame to lose all the collective erudition, wit and knowledge shared on here. Tim T All packed up ready to move to Felin Foel

  11. Well that was a waste of time! Not surprisingly, given the number of locos involved, the RCTS tome doesn’t list boiler changes for 57xxs! There is a photo of 5707 in Pannier Papers #3, dated October 1958. It shows 5707 at Canton shed, allegedly on its way to Swindon for withdrawal. It is in unlined black with the early BR emblem and is fitted with a top-feed fitted boiler. Sorry I can’t be of more help Tim T
  12. Johnster, do you have the RCTS Locos of the GWR partwork? That should answer your question. If you don’t I will dig my copy out of the box it’s packed in and see what it says. Tim T All packed ready to move to Felinfoel
  13. Dear Duckie, you’ve got to contain yourself for a bit longer. It starts on Friday 13th, how auspicious. Tim T All packed up ready to move to Felinfoel

  17. As my username is soon to change from Timbowilts to Timbowales and my location from Calne to Felinfoel can I ask if there are any model railway groups in the Llanelli area? TIA Tim T
  18. Where did you get the “Vale of Neath” lettering from? Tim T Modelling South Wales branches in EM
  19. Stubby, I have a spare untouched Silver Fox Class 22 kit, with the appropriate Hornby Chassis if you want it? It doesn’t fit South Wales modelling. Tim T Modelling South Wales branches in EM
  20. I’m intrigued by this comment. AFAIK such a vehicle wouldn’t have had a stove so no chimney. Could it have been an oil lamp top instead? Tim T Modelling South Wales branches in EM
  21. I’ve never heard of warming the can before use, how did you find that out? Does anyone else do this? Tim T Modelling South Wales branches in EM

  23. I thought you were allowed 89mph for passenger trains if some form of train stop gear was fitted and 110mph if Positive Train Control was active?
  24. Steve, you’re keeping them because serious modellers never throw anything away on the grounds that it will find a use one day! Tim T
  25. What an absolutely fabulous piece of work, Nick. It almost makes me want to chuck it all in and take up crochet Tim T Modelling South Wales branches in EM
