  1. Not being able to afford a Realtrack 143 and having several spare Hornby 142 bodies, has anyone purchased and used the class 143 end castings sold by Phoenix? They look pretty ropey in the image on the Phoenix website. Any information gratefully received. Tim T Modelling South Wales Valleys in EM
  2. Tony, my wife doesn’t like “proper” haggis so we eat vegetarian haggis. Even I, a confirmed carnivore, think it’s better than the real thing. HTH Tim T
  3. As stated in my original post my source was the BBC! Tim T
  4. Clive, I found this thread soon after it started. I’m amazed at what he is achieving, given his problem. There’s hope for us all as we get older, truly inspirational stuff Tim T

  6. Brian, what you were more likely to find would have been the end of a tramway or aerial ropeway to take the spoil further up the sides of the valley. Tim T
  7. Unfortunately I will be taken up with Swansea Air Show that weekend. Last year’s show was most enjoyable. Tim T

  12. CK, one advantage of Cheltenham Festival Week was the fact that the caff next to the office where I was employed in Swindon used to reduce the price of his breakfasts. Luvvly jubbly Tim T
  13. Sorry to revive this thread after so long but I have a problem. My current SEF Metro kit arrived very promptly yesterday morning. The first thing I did was open it and start reading the instructions (very un- bloke-ish I know ) several of the instructions refer to diagrams, either of alterations to the body parts or of the chassis assembly. No diagrams came with the kit. Rather surprisingly a phone call to Dave Ellis revealed that they had received no illustrations from Wills when they took over the range. So, RMWebiverse, are there any sets of diagrams from the Wills days out there that someone would be able to copy for me? TIA Tim T
  14. Have you got an itchy posting finger? Three copies of the same post or is RMWeb being its usual carp self again Tim T
  15. Just read on the BBC news website that Grand Central are proposing an open-access service from Cardiff to Paddington. They plan to cut half an hour off the journey time by not stopping at Swindon, Didcot or Reading. They are proposing to use the redundant ECML Class 91 + Mk4 sets. Tim T
  16. Just to revive this thread, I received my kit from Dave Ellis (Mr. SEF) this morning. Reading the instructions it soon became clear that the current ones are not complete, as longchap found out! There is no diagram of any style that shows the placement of the various components of the body and chassis. More importantly there are various letter references concerning making alterations to the cab, bunker, etc. to build variations present in this large class. I phoned Dave who said he would investigate and call me back. The upshot is that SEF don’t have any of the missing images in the files that they got when they took over the kits! Also I was the first person to point out the omission. The question is does anyone out there in RMWeb-land have a copy of the images that they could pass on? The body modification references are 1) A & B for having an open backed cab 2) C for changing the bunker front shape The chassis instructions refer to a diagram about the fold-up spacers but this is also missing! 19. I don’t think I’ve ever seen 70021/4004 on sale in my part of North Wiltshire. Probably available in Swindon but then I never looked for it in the 18 years that I worked in the town. Tim T
  20. Clive, assuming (possibly incorrectly) that you don’t partake of the i newspaper, here is a shot of an article in today’s edition Tim T

  24. The sides are glued to the floor as well as the ends. What I may well do is temporarily brace the sides whilst the cement sets on the next ones. Tim T
