Although I model the South Wales valleys I'm impressed. Very creative cross fertilisation, I would never have thought of being able to turn a 150 into a 455

Have you looked on the Wizard Models website? They are the current owner of the Comet range (Can't post a link as I'm doing this on an iPad in Rhodes)

Replying to Pete the Elaner, I have always sued the "L" shaped b2b gauge in my EM modelling. The trick is not to use it as in the photograph but to use it so that the axle is inside the "L" shape.
If you do that then the wheels must be parallel because you are measuring the b2b in two planes at once

Thans for all the replies folks.
Final solution is to ditch the driving wheels and gear wheek (the kit was missing the motor and worm) and use Scale Link 18mm divers, a Scale Link gear set, a Markits gear mount and one of John Isherwood's motots. It won't have to haul a lot as it will be finished as one of the South Wales auto-fitted ones for use on my soon-to-be-started layout based on Mountain Ash

Stephen, that explains the awful appearance of the worm wheel!
Oh well, more of the bits into the bin, replacement wheels, gears, cylinders, crosshead, connecting rod - not much left of the original chassis is there?
davefrk of this parish, also known as Lanarkshire Model Supplies, does a very nice track cleaning device that is designed to go in a brake van but can go in any long wheelbase van type vehicle
Good afternoon folks,
I've just acquired an old K's 55xx kit that is missing the motor and worm but still has the worm wheel firmly attached to the driven axle
does anyone know any technical details about the ratios that Keyser employed? I'm hoping that I can source a replacement. If not I'll have to try and get the old worm wheel off the axle, oh joy!

As someone who has been professionally engaged in the signal engineering trade for 43 years (Retirement looms Dec 31st, yippee) I can heartily endorse this book. It is what I have pointed all the trainees who have passed my way for many a year at.
I used to lend them my copy until one little b*****d absconded without returning it

Reet then lad, that' the Yorkshire way of doing it, fills your belly first so that the joint goes further and left-overs are available for washday, Monday

Cleclewyke, does the fact that I'm a Tyke from the "broad acres" with a stock of Romford crankpins explain my desire to "cross-kit" the wheels/crankpins?

I've done a forum search and there appear to be several threads about using Gibson crank-pins in Romford wheels but has anyone done the reverse?
I presume that it will be necessary to drill and tap the Gibson wheels 10BA to accept the Romford crank-pins but how feasible is this?
Awaiting loads of condemnation for this sacrilege but I'd rather use up my stock of Romford crank pins that purchase Gibson crank pins if I can use the Romfords

You're missing the relative age of the products. The code 100 items must be getting on for over 50 years old now. Plastic wing rails & check rails were state of the art then
