  1. Overlooked in this thread for sure....but the QR lines are so popular. Over the last month or so we've received orders to design no less than 7 QR locos and rolling stock. Seems to be quite popular nowadays
  2. TBH a large portion if the market wouldn't be bothered about it. If they were actually bothered by it, either Hornby wouldn't be around today or Hornby would've updated to 21-pin a long time ago... An 8-pin DCC socket only bothers the "real modellers", many of whom can be found on online forums that are dedicated to modelling, these forums do not represent the vast majority of the hobby.
  3. Good to know that there's an announcement on Wednesday. I'm hoping (and I'll be disappointed) for a new N gauge Class 90.
  4. Well... I had my time with the model, and now it has been sent off as a gift to the new owner. Just thought I'd share my thoughts, a mini review of sorts? OVERALL:- The Revolution Trains Class 92 certainly captures the look and feel of the prototype faithfully, something that I felt that the CJM Class 92 did not do 100% but got pretty close. QUALITY:- To begin with, as others have also mentioned, the model is definitely on the light side. Upon taking the body off, it is apparent that there's a lot more plastic on the chassis that metal. But I don't have a rake of coaches to test it out. So I'll leave the weight issue aside for others to decide. Aside from the weight, the overall build quality is absolutely superb. There's a couple of fuzzy areas around the headlights, but it is in an awkward place, and I'm a 100% certain I couldn't do a better job. One lamp iron was bent out of place and it fell out later on. Thankfully it was found and glued back quickly. The fuzziness around the headlights was sorted out with a bit of yellow paint. 8.5/10 for quality DETAIL:- It's all there! The model captures the look and feel and detail of the prototype faithfully. There's a wealth of separately applied detail all over the place. It really is an N gauge marvel. The highlight for me is obviously the pantograph. Very finely replicated and well done. The silver pantograph head was a bit hard on the eyes. So I painted it black!! 9.5/10 for detail. PERFORMANCE:- Straight out of the box the running was horrific. It wouldn't start until the controller was well past 25%. It then surged forward and stuttered and shuddered and stalled every now and then. I found it odd, or maybe I had high expectations in Rapido after all they are supposed to be known for their quality. Anyway, it had to be run in, so all was not lost. I ran the loco in for 30 mins in each direction. This did very little to improve the running. Whilst it started more easily and stuttered and shuddered less, it was still there and still noticeable. Last resort was lubricant, I was hesitant as the instructions specifically said don't add lube. A couple if dabs of low viscosity lubricant on each gear and the Class 92 runs like a dream. Probably my second best runner after the Dapol Class 68. So thankfully it was nothing major. Just a false alarm and lubricant to the rescue. The model is fairly smooth now. It doesn't stall anymore. It starts and stops smoothly and the only stuttering or shuddering I encountered was when it entered a curve (Peco 4th radius). I'm fairly certain that the shuddering now is the lack of weight. 07/10 for performance. To sum up, the Revolution Trains Class 92 is a must have for anyone who likes the Dysons!! Whatever issues I faced are probably one off cases and all of them could be fixed with ease. This is a hobby that requires modelling after all. What can be improved? - For me personally, the biggest improvement I'd love to see would be the weight. I was genuinely surprised by the lack of it. I think the lack of weight has certainly impacted the running. Go and grab your Class 92s soon! I regret not getting more when I could get them at the early bird prices (donations anyone?)....
  5. Well at least one Class 92 has made it's way to the "PegasusDesigns & JBM" HQ in India.... I bought this as a gift for someone. Arrived in one piece #ThankYouIndiaPost Thought I'll give it a quick check before it's gift wrapped and sent off!! I haven't had the opportunity to scrutinize it. But first impressions are positive. One lamp bracket was broken but thankfully still there. Once it is repaired, I'll do a proper review and send it off.
  6. It is a rendered image like most images on the Hornby website.
  7. No, it runs scheduled services and tourist specials
  8. Incredible job @Nicktoix ...Many years ago we thought of making an HOm kit. But the cost was prohibitive and most people who generally buy our kits won't have the skills to assemble the whole loco.
  9. It looks amazing. I totally regret not buying a 5-car set i.e. the one depicted in the post above. NOTE: It isn't a painted EP sample, it is in fact a CGI rendered image using the CAD work as a basis and either the CAD software or Photoshop to apply the livery.
  10. The image used for R3840 is a photograph of the actual md el anf the image used for R3979 is a CGI based on the CAD work which is later textured either using the CAD program or in Photoshop.
  11. No they have not. The only addition to the NMT power cars is the camera mounted below the cab window. That IIRC is a resin/plastic casting that is glued on. It is not part of the moulding and therefore Hornby haven't created a new tool for it. If Hornby actually did go through the trouble of re-tooling the NMT power cars then why would they leave out the headlight on the cab roof?
  12. You will still need tooling for a lens and modified cab interior. Leave the lens out and people here will be complaining about a shabby job (which is perfectly fine, why do a half-hearted job??) PS: When models have holes drilled in the body shells, they use a jig and some manufacturers like Marklin and Roco actually used automated arms that do all these things. So the positioning of the drill isn't the issue.
  13. Adding that headlight would need quite a bit of new tooling:- - Hornby will need to create a brand new tool entirely for front of the HST - They will need to create a whole new tool for the lighting guide and lens - The will have to modify the cab interior tooling just to accommodate the new lens and light guide unit That is by no means a cheap undertaking just for one small headlight. The different exhaust cowlings and so on were all factored into the tooling when the Hornby HST was first released. I am not aware of any retooling done to the HST in recent times to model various exhaust cowlings, windows and roof grilles. It will be far cheaper for a smaller company such as Express Models, Illuminated Models etc. to produce a lighting kit.
  14. Brilliant, seems like Simon Kohler has received my email and taken onboard feedback regarding the nose-ends for the ex-Lima Class 37 tooling that Hornby uses.
  15. How easy and cheap do you think it is for Hornby to add that headlight? Just asking....
  16. I think a while ago Hattons made a public statement saying that they allow more pre-orders from customers than the amount they have allocated from Hornby. I don't recall which thread this was discussed in but I do remember seeing that statement being put up either on rmweb or facebook. We can't just blame Hornby for everything. I really don't understand why Hattons allows people to pre-order more than their allocation from Hornby. It does no one good and in the end people blame Hornby for it. If Hattons gets 100 of R1234 then they should only allow pre-orders for 100 pieces of R1234. If 20 people cancel their pre-orders Hattons has 20 extra to sell. If Kernow Model Rail Centre can do that, then I am sure Hattons can.
  17. That does look really good indeed. Can't wait to get my LNER one.
  18. Good to hear... Hopefully all the moaning about it's delay will finally stop.
  19. The Hornby E2 tooling was modified to create Thomas. So there's no more tooling in Hornby's bank to produce an E2. The SE&CR loco is a complete fictional loco that is based on Thomas but with a smokebox door rather than a face.
  20. Did you even try getting in touch with anyone at Hornby to notify them of the issue? Members continuously posting on rmweb will do little or nothing to solve the issue. Why solve an issue when moaning about it online is so much fun!
  21. It's quite clearly an issue with the website. I have ordered from Hornby before (both for delivery within the UK and overseas as well) and never ever paid postage based on each individual item. Please email Hornby and inform them about it.
