  1. Not everyone's cup of "schwartztee" but this is on a 32% discount at Modelbahnunion - although it's still Euro 299,99 so stretches the definition of "bargain" a bit. I have wanted one for a while but in the US it's $450, which is pretty steep, although it has all sound functions, diesel smoke and converts from 2 rail DCC to Maerklin 3 rail if you can't make up your mind. I'm afraid I succumbed to temptation (only the second time this week so far). http://mail.modellbahnunion.com/c/48243726/dd00e91a19f7a-1fc9q09
  2. Me too! Something to read whilst "working from home"......
  3. Thanks for showing "how it's done". Very impressed!
  4. Thanks for answering this. I'll probably revert to the old app for my HOm layout and add the missing locos that I entered on the new app. Then the old iPad can be dedicated to that layout and z21.
  5. To answer your original question I have heard of people building catenary from scratch; especially where there isn't a good commercial solution like on the Landwasser viaduct. Good luck!
  6. Interesting question about dual-gauge catenary. I don't think that there was much dual gauge on the RhB, the only bit I know of was at Untervaz serving the BCU cement works and a recycling centre. The standard gauge was served by a Gm 3/3 diesel and a RhB Tm 2/2 on the metre gauge. Looking at the photo on the front of my copy of "Die Bahnhofsspurpläne der Rhätischen Bahn by Henning Wall" of that exact site there is no catenary over the dual gauge. I think that this dual gauge track may have been removed recently. If you are looking for ideas about separate supplies for different trains then the catenary at places like Basel where Swiss meets French and Germany OH might be an example. I recall French trains running into Basel - but I'm not sure whether they was multi-voltage OH. I'm sure there are others who are much better versed in trans-border electrics on the forum!
  7. Did you get anywhere with this? I have exactly the same problem in that I used the new app to update my layout, but my iPad no longer accepts updates of the new app so I need to go back to the old one!
  8. Before trying anything to drastic why not put some paint or Tipp-Ex on the potential offending bits to check it is where there is a problem? Then if that works as a temporary measure you can keep the slip "stock" so you can re-sell it once the Bullhead ones arrive.
  9. Thanks for the link - ordered one from Kernow!
  10. Small dabs of yellow and grey acrylic onto dark green scatter should work. Haven't got round to putting the weeds into my layout yet though... Like the daffs
  11. According to Stephen Randolph in his book "The Tetbury Branch" there were a number of failed proposals which included joining with the line to the Nailsworth line amongst others. By the time the GWR actually progressed the project it was as a branch line. There were also plans at one time to reach Malmesbury but the impression I get is that by the time the line was opened by the GWR it was pretty much confirmed to be a branch.
  12. Might be worth sending the V4 back to ESU. If it is a faulty one they may replace it. They replaced a new one of mine that I accidentally fried when it was on the ESU tester and one of the speaker leads touched the circuit board underneath .......
  13. I always assumed it would be "Helvetica" as it would be unpatriotic for the Swiss to use anything else! Glad to be proven wrong....
  14. It might be worth giving the surface a going over with "Pan Pastels" or ground pastel sticks. That should kill any remaining shininess and has the advantage you can wipe off the bits you don't like. I use them a lot rather than breaking out the airbrush for weathering. They would also do a great job of the brickwork as you can build of layers of grot and algae "to taste". Enjoy following your progress!
  15. How about covering it with Cotswold stone brick paper?
  16. I hadn't realised that was the reason for older Apple products getting stuck at iOS 8. I wondered why my 64Mb iPod touch is also a brick these days. At least ROCO have kept the legacy app (at least I still have it) unlike most of the apps on my iPod that have simply disappeared. Oh well.
  17. I have the same problem with a perfectly good iPad 2 which won't run the latest iOS. Very annoying!
  18. Yesterday I tried to update my Multimaus with the latest z21 maintenance tool V 1.14. This has the latest Multimaus firmware V1.05. However halfway through my computer lost connection to the z21 and I had to start again. Then got her "ERR99" message. As on line there's lots of evidence that V1.04 works I tried to downgrade back to 1.04, which it claimed to do but still had "ERR99". I re-tried lots of times with the same result and gave up after several hours and went to bed. This morning I decided to give it one last try, switched everything back on and it upgraded to 1.04 in less than 30 seconds and restarted! My guess is that the file is stored on an EPROM and it reached a temperature where it would throw a hissy fit; sometimes last night it got half way through before abandoning the upgrade or appeared to do it without changing anything. In fact my last ditch attempt would have been to put the Multimaus in to the freezer for a few hours; I recall several years ago that people were resetting stolen car radio codes by freezing the EPROM. SO the moral of this story is (a) never give up and (b) if it ain't broke don't fix it (especially if the service department is 3,000 miles away and locked down under coronavirus).
  19. Although there is the "Drei Konigs Brucke" in Basel so not impossible that one of them wandered through Pratteln Your layout - your rules, says the man running a HSB steam train on his RhB layout.....
  20. Finally killed the squeal as on PaulRhB's HSB thread he mentioned that the bogies were the source. A drop of Electrolube and all quiet.. except for the sound chip playing a steam hiss even when it is off. This weekend will try and make new handrails. Will have another go at the dodgy pick ups before reaching for the soldering iron.
  21. You are a braver man than me soldering those onto the baseplate attached by plastic!
  22. Thanks Paul! Haven't seen the Mallet announcement but I guess it it something to save up for! I'm still trying to identify the source of the squeal - might have to disassemble the pickups and clean them . Running not too bad except when starting - it "cogs" a bit which might be a pick up issue. Thanks for the tip on the "handles" , I need to replace one of the other handrails as well. Have you drilled out the chimney on yours? I'm thinking it might improve the looks.
  23. It's apparently called a "Griffstande Pufferbohle". Found the instructions hidden in the bottom of the box! I also found that the smokebox door didn't fit flush; on taking it apart there was a huge capacitor in there! This was preventing the door fitting and also incorrectly wired as a "keep-alive" which prevented the ESU chip being read by my "Lokprogrammer"! There's also a red wire from the connector on the smokebox door that goes nowhere. Anyways I replaced it with a proper ESU "keep alive" which I had left over from another HOm project (where it didn't fit) and it's purring around my mini layout. Well it's actually squealing around the curves even though the sound is off - I think that the Tillig Bettunggleis curves are a bit too tight for a 2-10-2!!
