  1. I've just ordered a malachite H1 for Brighton - Portsmouth running with the malachite set I have on order, there's evidence of them pre war with an H2 at least so I'm going with the assumption that it was still an operational pairing just after the war, if not who cares!
  2. The influx of new Southern Railway stock was fun while it lasted, as it's a "catch up year" I suppose i can catch up on items I didn't buy straight away :')
  3. Well there's several votes from me for the SR, largely of LBSCR selections
  4. Given that I posted photos here of different ex Lswr coaches I presumed to be the same type (they still look the same to me) , I think these models are good enough for me! 😅
  5. Going by a few photos that have been found in the 30s of their Portsmouth - Brighton running, presumably yes they would have been running in olive as 3 sets
  6. Ah I see, I have a much lesser trained eye! Useful none the less
  7. As I've said elsewhere, really happy with this announcement, a useful set for me to have as they seemed to have appeared between Brighton and Portsmouth! Pity no olive yet but I'm sure one will come. https://mikemorant.smugmug.com/Trains-Railways-British-Isles/SR-and-BRS/LBSCR-tender-locomotives/LBSCR-H2/i-FwgN3g6 https://mikemorant.smugmug.com/Trains-Railways-British-Isles/SR-and-BRS/LBSCR-tank-locomotives/LBSCR-E4-E4X/i-7FvT75d Is there a set on the back here? https://mikemorant.smugmug.com/Trains-Railways-British-Isles/SR-and-BRS/LBSCR-tank-locomotives/LBSCR-I3/i-bLspFzd
  8. Really excited about those crosscountry sets! I've been hoping for them for ages, found several 1930s photos like this of them on the Brighton-Portsmouth route my layout is loosely based on: https://mikemorant.smugmug.com/Trains-Railways-British-Isles/SR-and-BRS/LBSCR-tender-locomotives/LBSCR-H2/i-FwgN3g6 Pity there's no olive but I'll take malachite and hopefully an olive set will appear next year! Also, Henry looks a little radioactive up there...
  9. Every year I'm quietly hopeful for a wartime black E4 but I get the feeling they're done with the E4... I did repaint my B473 into its wartime livery but I'm too scared to paint the wheels for fear of bodging it up and getting paint where I shouldn't, I don't have the steadiest hands.
  10. Testing them out today, running very prototypical with 2/3s of a malachite birdcage set that arrived today, let's say one of the breaks recieved bomb damage but the service must go on and some important goods had to go with it, yep! :p Birdcages from Derails, £39 each, bargain! Just wasn't fast enough to get all 3 (if anyone has 39-623 they want to shift at a tasty price drop me a message :p) Wagons purchased from Train Times and continue the excellence we've come to expect from Rapido products. Edit: something a little more sensible
  11. Really pleased with these 4 that I definitely haven't had since Tuesday. 🤫 I origonally ordered all post 1936 versions but when I went to pick them up I changed my mind for a bit of variety as there were spares. Just in time for my birthday tomorrow 🥳 hopefully get them on the layout over the weekend! I advise not using my pics to comment on shades of brown, the lighting in my flat is not great, wait for the professionals! 😅
  12. I am definitely not the target audience for this range, but I'm thrilled for the two or three people I've noticed asking for more TT stuff.
  13. Am happy to swap a wagon if someone wants to get one post 1936-1941 liveried diagram and I'll get the other, for I too do not really need or have the funds for 6... +1 vote for a SR mixed diagram pack.
  14. Same, I thought I ordered a Southern department coach but there's no trace of it on my account, actually having looked, there's no trace of it on the website, did I imagine it? Edit: found the item, it was the 'tool van' , silly me trying to find it with the word department. Still, order vanished without a trace, oh well, £30 towards a Dancehall instead.
  15. It's a pity there aren't any in wartime liveries as far as I can tell? Perhaps in the next batch.
  16. Good lawd there's something for me! One SR Dance Hall please
  17. Interesting observation re: sunshine livery, these two have a very different font size
  18. Really pleased you've decided to do lots of different versions in the end 😁 no. 2151 for me! @BlueLightning get my order in plz. ;)
  19. Got the chance to give it a spin in a train today =) It's the first half of 1939, Hitler has not yet invaded Poland, The Southern Railway is still offering fine dining on its long services and the relatively new CME has started phasing out olive carriages in favour of malachite.
  20. This arrived today =) hopefully get a chance to add it to the train over the weekend. Should I be having the dining facilities shunted into the middle of a set, or tacked on the end or front? I'm sure I read something that suggested it was usual for them to be shunted between sets for the bulk of the journey before sets were split off to their various end destinations. Edit: answered my own question and found my source https://www.kernowmodelrailcentre.com/pg/190/KRMC-Skrifa---Catering-for-Southern-travellers-by-Hornby
  21. I've just noticed this version on Hornby's website that I hadn't noticed before, the description says operated by BR but it looks like Southern malachite unless it's meant to be transitional? https://www.railwaymodelstore.co.uk/Hornby-oo-gauge-sr-maunsell-dining-saloon-third-7844-r40221/?gclid=Cj0KCQjwpImTBhCmARIsAKr58cw53g36AUavQxNsK2-3GUGtIPYX-17-ZNwVgdQJ2QEAgKcIiXXJ3X8aAmJ-EALw_wcB
  22. To my eyes, the photo of the real thing looks neon pink...
  23. Fitted the bar to one, little fiddly getting it all aligned but I managed it!
