  1. I get Mika's 'Grace Kelly' stuck in my head every time I read this thread 😅
  2. Finally got myself a set! I don't know if they were still being used on the Brighton - Portsmouth post war but they are in my model world!
  3. I have just today forked out for a LSWR Cross Country set so I might well be thrilled with a nothing for me announcement 😅 but will be equally thrilled with more Southern stock of pre grouping origin that ventured towards Brighton
  4. I've been looking out for this thread all year, not sure how I missed it, only just found it by Googling because I noticed the original poll thread said the results would be posted in January 😅
  5. I was born 50 years too late to see the era I'm interested in 😅 There is much I wish I could have witnessed or experienced. The Bluebell Railway is as close as I'll ever get! Edit: just realised I managed to totally misread the title and thought we were talking about real trains, must have been a long day 😅
  6. Ah, that answers my "are they WWI or WWII WD?" question
  7. Yes I still want a set but as they seem to be lingering I'm waiting to see what sales they may or may not end up in, TMC currently have the Bachmann Breakdown Crane for about £125, as someone who paid £212 when they were first released that stings a bit! 😭 But never mind, and yes with regards to comments about sets and rule 1ers I've noticed loads of Hornby Bulleid brakes are heavily discounted at the moment but the composites are not, often not in stock at all
  8. I'm really surprised Rapido didn't do better, you guys are my Gold! ❤️
  9. I think I'll definitely be selling off a lot of Dapol wagons to fund new ones, depending what future PO wagons come out, I've got a plethora of Southern company wagons I've collected over the years comissioned via Dapol but unless I change the wheels on them all they derail all over the place and they basically become goods yard scenery because I never want to bother using them, none of those problems with Rapido wagons!
  10. Wrong part of the country for me but good to see you dipping a toe into locomotives of pre grouping origin , first of many I hope! =)
  11. Ooo hopefully we'll see some Sussex based company wagons in future batches =)
  12. Not for me, but I'm surprised it's taken this long for someone to do it! Bound to be popular, no denying that Metropolitan Railway livery is pretty stunning!
  13. It probably wouldn't look as long in 1/1 either! A small roundy does rather change perception
  14. Visiting my layout at the parents today, having a play with a goods train which is about 60% all the new Rapido wagons I've purchased over the past year with the new iron mink towards the back =) Not sure if a C Class would have been capable of pulling all that on its own but it looked odd in 00 so I drafted in a D, it's pleasing to watch anyway! And please ignore the absolutely state of the railway, it's become less a model railway and more a test bed for new toys, half of it barely works anymore, needs a good rebuild! One day...
  15. My Bachmann H1 and H2 are my benchmarks, they perform flawlessly. There is some challenging, less than perfect trackwork on my layout, I will rebuild it one day when I have time and funds, but those two locos can handle everything where other modern spec locos might derail or stutter.
  16. I assume replaced planks is what accurascale have attempted here https://www.accurascale.com/products/national-coal-board-chaldron-pack
  17. I always think unpainted planks on 00 models just look like unfinished 00 models, looks awful on the Accurascale Chaldrons, not convinced by Bachmann's efforts either.
  18. This is a subject that's never even occurred to me... I'm using a 30ish year old Gaugemaster controller, which I think is fine but perhaps it's not...? I don't know any different 😅
  19. I'm 31, A combination of growing up with Thomas the tank engine, childhood visits to the Bluebell and an interest in local history / WW2 have led to my 1940sish Sussex based layout. What I remember on the mainline is long, blocky, uninspiring Connex units going in and out of Brighton Station ... Not my thing, and I think would make the most boring layout to operate.
  20. The trains are all a bit modern innit (by modern I mean post 1947, of course)
  21. To answer the initial question, I'd happily lose all the non visible detail underneath wagons and carriages (which I still don't really see the point of) if it made them a little cheaper
  22. If they're not done with the toolings already, either an H1 or H2 in wartime black would be great =)
  23. This has always been my hypothesis. Really interesting results!! And really interesting reading everyone's initial analysis. One of my reasons for 'going solo' is chronic social anxiety, I meet people from here at exhibitions occasionally and there is much awkward silence! 😅 But I have developed a lovely train community on Twitter =) Side note, I have absolutely no idea what TOPS is, so in my mind it looks like people are shouting for their locos to have blue ROOFS 😄 anyway, we don't need to spam up this thread with explanations, I'll do a Google.
  24. That Southern black one is a little bit sexy! Looking forward to it =)
