  1. '24 was on the front of the Pullmans on Friday - but the back of the train got hidden before I could see what was behind "Gwen" ! Tonbridge : 7/7/23
  2. The term 'Bank Trains' makes me think of bullion vans ................................. but I don't think that's what were talking about here !
  3. Maybe on some lines at some dates ........ grabbing 'LMS Wagons' off the shelf, I find the vast majority of number blocks - somewhat later than the 1870s - start at '0'.
  4. I don't think the curved 'sad eyes' windows match the angular ones on the original photo. Though we know they all look the same, of course ! 🙄
  5. But that system doesn't differentiate between the 2800s and 4700s ...... let alone any number of Ten-Wheeler classes. ☹️
  6. 'Atlantic' would have been more appropriate. for that location.
  7. I've a sneaking suspicion these things have been discussed before - but without knowing what it is, I don't know what to search for ! : - Whatever it is, there's a WARNING notice in the leading windscreen ! Orpington 7/7/23
  8. Unless it's set up for eight beats to the bar - the Lord Nelsons - a four cylinder loco is just as prone to 'dead centring' as a two cylinder one.
  9. Perhaps later travellers were less prone to confusion as the "Eddystone" name reappeared on a Bulleid Pacific in the mid '40s.
  10. Good job it's at Danger - with that brick wall across the tracks ! 🙄
  11. "Please don your G-suits as we're about to make an emergency stop."
  12. Nah ......... I had a quiet word with the spill chucker !
  13. Oh - to have been a fly on the wall at the insurance Company !
  14. Absolutely no consideration for future modellers, them guys at Swindon ! 🙃
  15. As stated by LMS2968 4 cylinders should reduce hammerblow but they won't make any difference to torque unless the cranks are arranged to give eight exhaust beats per revolution ...... yes even more complicated and only applied to one 'production' class of loco that I'm aware of.
  16. Certain people are hoping so ...... I can't get any more specific without getting political !
  17. ... but it was the earliest component of what became the South Eastern - other than the Canterbury & Whitstable which wasn't renowned for its double track.
  18. There's no reason to assume that right/left hand running on the railways is the same as on the roads of the same country ( or necessarily consistent within every country ) ...... the lines at Aachen on the Belgium/Germany border had/have to swap over.
  19. At least none of their locos have been de-acquisitioned ...................................................... yet.
  20. To summarise the options for 31487 in 'Sunshine' livery : the only D1s recorded with British Railways numbers AND tenders lettered in 'Sunshine' style were :- February 1948 : s1735 with 'British Railways' on the tender April 1948 : 31470 with 'British Railways' on the tender May 1948 : 31246 with 'British Railways' on the tender June 1948 : 31487 with 'Southern' on the tender July 1948 : 31743 with 'British Railways' on the tender September 1948 : 31489 with 'Southern' on the tender All can be represented by changing loco or tender insignia ( both for 31489 ) .............. but, of course, other loco details may need changing too.
