  1. They're 2.85m wide ( 9'4'' in old money ) ....... and they're somewhat longer than Eurostar at 23m 'cos they're not articulated.
  2. But there are lots of signal boxes and/or level crossings and/or crossing huts on that thread ..................... as it happens, neither Haughley, Baylham nor Wassicks appear on Corneliuslundie's listing - sorry to waste your time responding. ☹️
  3. Have a word with KR Models for that one ! 😊
  4. Not really wanting to get into politics here, I suspect Ben Elton didn't want to spend the whole programme delving into the minutiae of WHY there are long running strikes - in the rail industry and elsewhere.
  5. Not to be confused with all those short lengths of centre third rail they installed for AWS operation !
  6. ... last seen - in an overdue-for-replacement livery - somewhat further from Reading : - 12/6/23
  7. Ah ! ............... the British Railways sandwich joke is alive and well ! 🙄
  8. ... and the non-standard gutters. ................. I'm pretty sure it's 8754 : built as a Driving Brake for the 'Enterprise', rebuilt for railcar use and rebuilt again to eliminate the spurious guards van. York Road : 17/5/94 Dundalk : 9/5/04
  9. Depends on the facilities you desire ...... onboard catering is almost completely absent ! ☹️
  10. C'mon ...... put yer modeller's hat on and suggest installing the latest - not necessarily appropriate - sound file from XYX Digital !
  11. Yes, the only time they were likely to run in significant numbers of the same diagram would have been when brand new, leaving Swindon for an initial loading point.
  12. Up my local branch we've had 'Networkers' from two different manufacturers and class 376 for umpteen years - now some 707s have flown in to give three totally incompatible types. In pre-Networker days we had EPBs of two basic styles and innumerable individual configurations - but prior to the EPBs we had 4SUBs of Bulleid style ( plus a few Maunsell style ) and earlier rebuilds with pre-grouping bodies : those had run as three-car sets from electrification - with two-car trailers for peak hours ............................. I don't think they all looked the same ! 😊
  13. ... but when I collected mine, umpteen years ago, it came from a recently closed railway - near what is now the Battlefield Line if I remember rightly : it's 156mm long x 60mm thick ( tapering to 55mm ) x 85mm tall in the centre / approx 70mm at the edges ....... apologies for the metric dimensions but nothing gives a round figure in Imperial !
  14. Might be the photographers bike ? .......... not quite in the same league as Ivo Peters' Bentley. 😁
  15. I'd hazard a guess that your bit of rail is a heavier section than the chair was designed for - so will required an undersize key !!?!
  16. ... and probably don't really care a smut about what's on the front anyway !
  17. Depends whether you're talking about class 73/9s or class 73/9s .......... Bo-Peep Junction's a LONG way from the Heelans ! 1/7/22
  18. OK if you don't want to hear or smell the steam loco .......... ☹️
  19. I'm of a generation that knew how to open and close railway carriage doors .............. nowadays I stand in front of a pair of sliding doors clearly marked 'AUTOMATIC DOORS' and expect them to open automatically ...... DUH !
  20. ... and as others have mentioned previously, LMS goods vans were nowhere near as standardised as the Dia.1666 so a) what should Rapido start with ? or b) what should Rapido, Accurascale, Bachmann, Hornby, KR AND Oxford each start with ?
