  1. Sorry if this has been mentioned before. Was there a team from people here that competed in episode 5? What was the name of the group?
  2. Another good example of this is the nominal 5p charge for plastic bags (before they stopped all together!). The usage dropped right off, even though it was only 5p. Supermarkets have saved huge amounts in not buying bags. I'm sure I read that if you re-use a plastic bag (one of the old ones) just once, it becomes 80% more environmentally friendly than a bag for life. Good think I have hundreds of each saved! Although Bag For Lives are more or less useless in my household (I have no use for them). Old plastic bags go in bins in the bathroom and office. The more durable plastic bags you can buy for pounds are fast becoming useless as I use delivery baskets (that supermarkets use anyway) when picking up my shopping now. Just need to get hold of some Asda ones - then I can do a straight swap! Sorry, all this is completely off topic!
  3. What are the three donut O's on the side of a 92 for?
  4. Seriously, wasn't Rebecca Black - Friday the official worst song ever written?
  5. Despite the warnings, I managed to break the speedo cable on my Class 4MT tank. I got a new one from the service centre but it can't be fitted as the end is joined to another piece. If I have (accidently but enthusiastically!) broke the socket out and hardwired a chip, will they touch it? Thanks
  6. Another vote for Central Trains, but rather the RR version: Reason being is that it fits geographically nearly everywhere and had a long life.
  7. Morning all! The sun is shining here in Leicestershire - bright and blue skies everywhere I look. Can't wait for the weekend! Have worked my rest day for the last 2 or 3 weeks but tried to use up my annual leave so booked tomorrow off - was a nice surprise. First midwife appointment today, which is great but scary as we're actually having a child; it seems to become more real as each week passes. But it's also a shame as the list of "things I need to do" is becoming ever longer as the day grows shorter. Must find time to fit some modelling in though!
  8. @Richard Croft would be a good candidate for this perhaps?
  9. True, although it would only require wiring it up the opposite way?
  10. Morning all Well, just! Sat here at work watching Westworld as I'm trying to decide if it's worth keeping. 3 episodes in and I'm back hooked again. Yesterday was a good day. I thought I'd spend ages finishing off making some pallet furniture but I spend less than an hour. There's not much more to do on it so gives me more time for clearing up the model railway room, which for the past few months has become a dumping ground. Tut. It's 11:59, so I must post now!
  11. Have you thought about getting another motored power car?
  12. I have this set up. I have my DCC power bus connected to the controller. I have a set of DC power bus wires that connect to an old Hornby DC controller (with the 16v output connections). Switches connect to each point and power bus. I can provide more details if you wish.
  13. Does this mean future versions may have proper marker lights or warm LEDs?
  14. Yes. Are there any prominent unboxers that will produce a video fairly quickly?
  15. Sorry, I would have thought the context of the poll would have set the limits of the answers :/
  16. Is that suggesting if they didn't make a donation then you wouldn't buy one?
  17. Hmm. Interesting thoughts. I did think about using some of the decking pieces to make arms for the pallet sofa I'm making but I'll still have enough left over to give it a go. I suppose even if it's a out and back layout, would be good to see some of my locos stretching their legs (wheels?). It may also be a good practice for a modular sort of layout as then I could bring it out in summer and back in during the winter with ease. You watch, I'll end up buying more pieces now!
  18. But thanks for sharing. Inspired me! You can always have 4 tracks in the green/yellow bit and see if you can make a fly over / under so it's a continuous loop but means you can ease those curves at the bottom right hand side. Add this to having only two tracks remember, the US / DS will duck under / fly over!) means it could work. I also thought that if your slow lines will only be used one way, the downhill section could be steeper than the up section if you did provide a dive under / fly over. I have this on my current layout. But it can be fiddly and hard work for older locos - My Class 68 is fine going up my hill. Thomas is okay with a good run up but an older Western struggled a little (even as light engine!).
  19. I already have a layout. It's essentially an L shaped roundy roundy, but have just read through another topic and it gave me some inspiration so I drew up a nice little station with TMD area. I'm too far gone to alter what I have now, which is why I wish I'd never started ballasting as I could have changed things a lot easier then. But will keep the design for future use. If you already have a layout, do you keep designing layouts? Added a few options, so best to pick one closest to your situation.
  20. Talking in DCC terms here, how long could a model railway be? Here's a little story: Put some decking in and I have about 20m (4x5m strips) left, plus a bunch of off cuts. I'm thinking they're wide enough for a bit of track outside. My garden is 23m long at the longest point but the railway would only go to half of that, if that! Could DCC reach that far and be okay? Thinking have the track permanently outside and just bring locos / controller when I want - but this is just a wild thought at the moment. The other thought was that at some point in the future, the railway may cover a door, so I could use these decking pieces as "bridges" to cross the gap where the door would open (although I'd only need a metre and a bit, so still have loads to spare). Unless anyone can suggest anything else to do with the decking pieces...
  21. No, but in terms of programme naming, S01E01 if there's only one is the set standard. If Radio Times / Channels decide to say "Episode 1 of 6" that's their own naming technique (and unless part of the same series: World's Most Luxurious...." then it's also simply wrong ). However, you might be on to something as I watched one about a cruise ship not more than couple of weeks ago.
  22. Some programme makers / producers / TV channel companies will add S01E01 even if there's only one episode. I hope there will be more but as it touched on some others, I doubt it. Interesting that CNN suggests these are the worlds most luxurious: CNN has a list of routes: Yet other websites have a slightly different list: Shame really as it was quite interesting. I would have liked to see the Orient Express in detail.
