  1. Something going on in the West Brom wall, I think; if you miss two penalties, you can't really complain
  2. I must say that our local health authority (Tameside and Glossop) has, with a few exceptions, run an extremely efficient campaign. They seem to have been ahead of everyone else right the way through. I am 67, and had mine about 3 weeks ago (10th February), when the news was talking about the 70 to 75s getting theirs. In January, they had to be ordered to stop administering second jabs to the over 80s. As to my experience; drove over to a local sports centre, in at the correct time, sat on a socially - distanced seat in the sports hall. the jabs were administered by rows of seats by all the staff at once; they then when on to the next row once they were ready. After 10 minutes, and drove home. No side effects whatsoever. Pfizer vaccine
  3. The holes were cut in the sides to prevent overloading of the wagon when it was carrying a denser material than it was designed for (e.g. Spoil)
  4. Some fun and games with the second loco; what was up with the dolly?
  5. You'd need new masts to get from where the existing line terminates, near ASDA in Ashton, to Stalybridge; certainly not an insurmountable problem, since it's only mile or so. I can't think of any bridges over that would need altering. Would it also be useful to re-wire round to Guide Bridge East? I think that when Ashton Moss North box was abolished, the junction itself was remodelled.
  6. The Secret Policemens' Ball 1980, IIRC. A comment on the Jeremy Thorpe trial. 30 years later, even though you know what's coming, you still laugh
  7. Might the train formed of ex-LNER coaches be a relief to another train?
  8. Where would an extra Manchester bay go? Might not a turnback siding out at, say Heyrod, where NR seem to have a workbase, be a better idea?
  9. How are Earle's Sidings, on the Hope Valley line, worked?
  10. When I went to school in the Colne Valley, more years go than care to remember, I made the same mistake. You could get away with with Slathwaite. Golcar was always Goker, and as for Maarsden, well!
  11. The von Borries system; T.W. Worsdell on the N.E.R built several classes of loco using this system.
  12. The judgement coming now has more to do with the way the wheels of justice are tuning particularly slowly at the moment; the case has been in the pipeline since at least October. Why did the government spend half a million quid defending it?
  13. Manchester - Bury? Completely left field, but there you go!
  14. Is the NE coach one of those built in the early 20s by the LNER for the GE section? Michael Harris mentioned in Gresley's Coaches some being built as a stopgap because of their shorter wheelbasehelped solve some signalling problems.
  15. Looking at that lot shows you another reason for the decline of British shipbuilding; it's a mess! i think Doxfords had ceased building by then, and they weren't building many engines, either
  16. Not had any of that, and I'm 67; I had a health check at the back end of 2019, when I was placed on statins, and the surgery invited me back for another last December; but at the moment they aren't doing much close quarters stuff because of the pandemic. I'm also waiting for a physio check-up because of a recurring lower back muscular problem. I can see that when things start to return to normal, I'm going to have to remind them about it.
  17. Apropos this, a letter arrived in the post, inviting me for a jab this morning!
  18. Well, I'm 67 and live a few miles south of Apollo. Our GP practice has been sending us regular jab progress updates. They posted on Tuesday that bookings were open for 65 - 70s. I used the link provided and had my first jab on Wednesday afternoon. Left arm used, and there was slight ache, but my right arm came out in sympathy!
  19. I thought it was actually illegal to drive with significant amounts of snow on the car, particularly on the roof; it could blow off onto the windscreen of a following car. I know that I always completely clear the car of snow before setting off.
  20. That's what I thought. So the NWN reporter was basically talking rubbish about changing at Crewe. So Manchester trains will have of necessity, to be shorter (than the 'normal' HS2 trains) in order to fit in the classic platforms at Piccadilly?
  21. The guy on North West News emphasised the time saving from Manchester to London that could be achieved by changing trains there: will there not be some means of allowing Manchester direct trains from running onto HS2?
