  1. Oh, yes! Just couldn't remember whether it was her or Susan George.
  2. Having read that, why is the Belanglo Forest so "Sinister"?
  3. I remember him as The Duke of Wellington in Bondarchuk's(?) Waterloo, as a Squadron Leader in Battle of Britain, and as Rudyard Kipling in The Man Who Would be King.
  4. Nail very firmly hit on the head. Who actually gains by having their employees/contractors/freelancers working from home?
  5. When I was at sea, we had to keep our vaccinations up to date for obvious reasons. The one with the shortest interval was against Cholera (Six - monthly) so it would be nothing new for me.
  6. Tameside have never had a premium on garden waste. We've had repurposing of bins, where the (small) green bin is now used for general waste, the larger brown bins are used for garden/food, and so on, and the large black bins are plastic/glass but that's it.
  7. People have to pay for green waste collection in addition to their Council Tax? Blimey! All food waste goes in the same bin as garden waste. There's also a separate card and paper bin, a glass and metal bin, and a general waste bin. We are allowed as many bins of each type as we need or want. The Greater Manchester WDA put a supplement on the Council Tax, but I suppose that goes towards the running of the waste processing plants, and operation of the various tips.
  8. Were you one of those causing all the traffic problems in Diggle last weekend? Anyway, you were a bit far from home, methinks.
  9. Completely off topic, in England, such was the death rate that it's reckoned that the Black Death caused the collapse of the feudal system, because the peasants could offer their services to the highest bidder, rather than be tied to a particular lord. It's what gave us the journeyman labourer.
  10. The Kitson - Still; just horrible! I think there were only two sold for marine use, despite what it says
  11. Didn't know whether to agree or fall about laughing! You are, of course, correct!
  12. Exactly what I was on about. You can also include it on other goods, of course; also stuff like tobacco and alcohol duty.
  13. Everyone in the country pays tax, of some sort.
  14. "Afternoon Parcels" would make a great jigsaw; my first thoughts were that it was a painting. Brilliant photo!
  15. Babbage had a mention on one of the programmes that BBC Bitesize are putting out for children, last Friday; but it was mostly about Ada Lovelace, who ruined herself attempting to get the money together to allow Babbage to build his machine. She, apparently is credited with the first attempts at programming.
  16. Somewhere, either myself or my no. 2 son have dad's slide rule, which was a "special"; he was a building services' engineer and, IIRC, it was used for calculating heat loads in buildings and stuff like that. What I do have are my 3 scale rules, all metric, as that's all I ever used for thirty years as a draughtsman.
  17. O/T, but was it "The Wind Rises"? Miyazake's last film for Studio Ghibli; the pacifist sentiments got him into a lot of trouble with certain elements in Japanese society. A fine ending to a brilliant career.
  18. Superb set of photos! On another note, how is Port Salford progressing?. I didn't think you could get up as far as those drydocks; aren't Mode Wheel Locks blocked?
