  1. Are we, in fact, almost seeing electrification by stealth? "Guerilla" electrification, as it were; a little bit here; a little bit there; then, all of a sudden, there's a coherent system.
  2. That's the bit I was thinking of. Saddleworth is strange place, in some ways; there used to be a lot of 'professional' Yorkshiremen lived there, there still are, to some extent. These days, it having become more of a dormitory for the surrounding cities, with expensive housing, there would be plenty who would complain about the loss of visual amenity. For instance, a new secondary school is needed; the complaints bout the chosen site, and the road changes for it have been going on for years.
  3. Would have thought the clearance problems, on the Western side at least, would be Scout Tunnel, the Stamford Road overbridge at Mossley Station, and the A670 overbridge at Greenfield station; the last two because of problems with road junctions as well.
  4. Love to see that! Some bits of it are almost, if not actually, unique; the span over the canal is a skew arch on a curve, so I suspect it will take as much designing as anything else.
  5. Especially the bridge team, the pilot, and perhaps those on duty in the engine room
  6. Did someone say it was April 1st, or is this serious? I dare anyone to post this on Facebook or the like, just to see the reaction!
  7. Possibly also a victim of inter - regional politics? The line, if it can be considered as a single entity, ran across the territory of three different railways (six, pre-grouping). Who actually operated the the services on it?
  8. Right hand down a bit! I used to see ships like that at the cement terminal when I was working at Ener.G Combined Power, on Daniel Adamson Road
  9. There was the time one of the MSC dredgers demolished a set of gates at Barton Locks, and promptly sank; sometime in the 50s, I think!
  10. At the Act of Union, in 1707, that's what the Scots wanted their part of it to be called
  11. My surgery is quoting 11 weeks between 1st and 2nd jabs, at the moment, with no differentiation between manufacturer. My wife (77) will have hers this Thursday, which seems to be in line with the quote above.
  12. Couldn't get that to work. Cape dinners. Now there was something!
  13. I can remember seeing EMU carriages on their way into Liverpool Street in the early 60s with a GE prefix. Can't remember if there was any suffix
  14. I think your post covered it; just use the numbering as shown for the categories, with a 'remarks' column and an explanatory note somewhere in the document.
  15. These days, would the E.R. be manned going through the canal?
  16. That sounds like when inspecting for fire safety was removed from a public body to privateers, here in the UK, with predictable results. Fortunately (If that is the correct term) there has only been one, costly, failure so far.
  17. The point surely is that the power grid should not have failed , and those who died would still be alive.
  18. Very nice bar in that building at Monkseaton; The Left Luggage Office The last time we attempted to dance at Tynemouth, in about 2016 or 2017, we were chucked off for interfering with their booked band. There is or was a flea market on Sundays
  19. One could add the power grid (which, since privatisation has not had much significant investment) schools, and hospitals.
  20. Had similar at sea when the first ships with control rooms started to appear; only it was a boiler - suited engineer in the glass cabinet (holding a spanner)
