  1. Problem with such a high standard of layouts being shown today is I am struggling to get to the traders stands.
  2. Invisible ink is a common expression on online forums for conversations that ignore or repeat previous posts, not intended to necessarily be sarcastic. The point is that your light isn’t likely to be working outside legal parameters(Certain LED or ballast fittings aside), whereas it is believed that almost all PLAs cause illegal interference but the authorities seem to be unwilling to engage because there is little money to be made from enforcement and too many units out in the wild to be able to get rid of them. Disclaimer, I am new to the amateur radio hobby and currently use pla’s for home working. I am looking to eliminate them but it isn’t straightforward due to the physical attributes of the property, available power points and Ethernet only equipped equipment.
  3. Take a look here at the list of references https://www.who.int/bulletin/volumes/96/2/17-199588/en/ Bill Gates was very late to the party......
  4. Not far off, when you get a license you get assigned** a callsign by ofcom or their country’s equivalent licensing body to use on all transmissions. ** The uk is unusual in having a three step licence program now, your callsign changes with each step and the first digit defines your license level. (I got to choose my last three digits as they were unused by any other licence holder).
  5. You can get armoured Ethernet cable which is 12mm thick. A crimping tool and pack of 50 plugs costs less than £20. The plug strips the cables as you crimp so it’s just remove an inch of outer sheath, organise the inner wires into right order and make sure they line up with the channels as you push into the plug, and crimp. (Don’t tell any comms engineers but i have in the past run bog standard internal use Ethernet cable down the outside of a house through the soffit, and back in through the wall at plug socket height , and it’s still going strong 5 years later, it is however in a sheltered spot out of direct sunlight).
  6. I received my foundation license a few weeks back and am studying for the intermediate at the moment. During the practical and assessment day it was apparent there was other interest in railways in the room from the host club, and I have seen ham radio mentioned today in the powerline adapter thread has led me to wonder if there are any other hams in the room? 7. How about a straightforward one lap race from Silverstone to Brands hatch and back.... a couple of off/on chicanes at junctions to make sure it isn’t just a drag race, jobs a goodun I reckon
  8. Apparently in our local McDonald’s even though they had taped off the seating area people were pushing through and sitting down and refusing to leave. Our local BK didn’t say anything but already had issues with teenagers behaving anti-socially, employing bouncers and police visiting regularly..... neither offered delivery as we are a just-eat town rather than Deliveroo. what has surprised me is how much I miss visiting my parents, and particularly surprised at missing my dads rambling discussions on what local shops have opened and closed, what the local building sites are doing etc etc. Phone calls just ain’t quite the same.
  9. The other thing to bear in mind is these grants have been funded by central government, distributed by district councils. Funding is therefore out of general taxation (paye, Corporation tax, VAT, national debt etc. ) and not from local council funds.
  10. Every council is handling it differently. Some paid out the retailer grants within 5 days to all eligible business rate payers, others have forms on their website to download and return for payment within 28 days, and are not promoting businesses to look for them. This is based on a chat amongst shop owners, in the industry I work in, on Facebook. i know from a rates appeal a couple of years ago our local council don’t keep bank details for the direct debits in an unencrypted format, so cannot refund/pay back automatically.
  11. I assume the mail travels in passenger aircraft in normal times and the lack of flights is what is delaying you. I would email the tracking number to the retailer to confirm the return is in progress.

@The Stationmastera lot of drugs are produced in India and they have apparently made large restrictions on exports to ensure they can look after their population first. This is the main reason for the shortage and increased price of basics such as paracetamol as well as many more advanced drugs.

The flour industry are saying their issue is capacity to bag the flour into retail size bags as commercial sacks are typically 16kg and domestic sales are typically 4% of sales. I wonder what the equivalent figures are for milk and capacity of the bottling plants.
  14. Don’t forget under uk law the local police are responsible for riot related claims rather than insurers.
  15. For most clays if they have gone solid you can wrap them in cotton or similar, soak in for day or so in a bucket of water and then let it dry to desired consistency.
  16. I dunno, the way airfreight pricing has gone since the passenger flights stopped....

We live in flats with big communal bins in 2 flavours, they are emptied towards the end of the week unless it’s a bank holiday, school holiday or any similar event when our route gets dumped to cope with the staff shortages....sometimes for 2,3 or more consecutive collections. Then their contact centre play a game of well you have to notify a missed collection within 24 hours, of the Correct colour bin, or we will leave it until the next scheduled collection....unless you ask for the details of the council contact that oversees their contract...when they are emptied before a reply is received.
  18. At least one footballer was in the press last week because his club sent him a temporary pay cut contract via WhatsApp during the evening, wanting it back by lunchtime the next day. He has other contracts with his agent and needed time to work out the full implications of signing...and was dismissed for not meeting the random deadline.....strange times all round.
  19. Couriers in general are up s&*@ creek at the moment, mainly due to the fast shut down of shops etc. Many have pallet loads of undelivered parcels. Couple this with all their call centres having to close/work from home and it’s been a nightmare for any consignments that have been disrupted or delayed. With the main courier we use, we are used to a four working hour reply to emailed enquires....today I got a response to a query from the 26th March....three more sent in the same hour remain unanswered...and no phones to try and get a quicker answer. If it is bespoke goods and time wasn’t specified to be of the essence when the contract was agreed I suspect you will get no-where and need to wait for the goods. if you take the s75 route your bank will initially refund you, and then give them 14 to 28 days to prove they acted reasonable and may re-charge you if they agree they acted in good faith.
  20. I take the wife too and from her job each day, I noted there seemed to be more traffic about today in the two towns, but still very little between them.
  21. Still confused how we ease out of lockdown if we peak soon without this herd immunity or a vaccine. More confused how global travel restrictions will ease with all these countries with different levels of infection, procedures etc.

Our supermarkets are variable at the best of times with cat litter so I normally buy four at a time anyway. Have therefore bought a bag a week recently to keep the normal stock level high, rather than run low and fill up. one of ours have had to use shredded newspaper following surgery in the past and I have known people to use wood shavings in the normal litter tray.

Took the wife to work and then went to Tesco at 7am. Fully stocked all the way round. Got everything on my list. Was quiet with no queue to get in, everyone well behaved and a clear one way system all the way round. Only downside was the alcohol aisle was fenced off with a staff member fetching items on request, so couldn’t select a variety of bottled ales and just got a pack of ghost ship. If it wasn’t for the circumstances I would prefer it to the normal scrum....

  25. Given the belief you see in people that every possible medical chance should be taken for every person routinely through the news normally , I think my generation* are in for a bloody big shock as the reality hits over the next few weeks. *between the baby boomers and millennials
