  1. Any chance that the "incorrect wiring" which "needed reworking" has disturbed or damaged something?
  2. Your second sentence answers your question - you're striving for a realistic look. Therefore whatever it takes to get that realism. And once you've done faces, you'll move onto something else. Photography is not simply about copying what is there, what the eye can see, but capturing the beauty of what is there. Whether its adding a face or adding a warm tint, if it makes a good picture better, so be it. Put another way, if your picture was spoiled by a pink blob of a face, why wouldn't you change it?
  3. I thought this. Here and elsewhere, a number of people cancelled pre-orders when Hornby made their initial announcement that they weren't doing the headlight. Perhaps this (along with comments about the price premium), made it back to Margate, forcing the rethink.
  4. Anybody else getting adverts on their page for an Independent Damp Surveying company? I don't know whether its from what i've previously typed or that the cookies have 'read' the page. If it's the latter, has anybody else had a problem with Holly Willoughby coming in their train room? Does Holly Willoughby cause staining on the track?
  5. To be honest, i prefer it. It's like a revamped large logo blue. Have the yellow/grey changed at all?
  6. Exactly this. The sealed boxes in which we now live can't expel the water vapour we create. Open hearth fires and leaky sash windows created airflow. The rush for insulation in roofs, walls and windows had consequences that were not foreseen
  7. I'm sorry to hear about your Dad. I guess today must be a bitter sweet moment. You've done his memory proud with some lovely photos of the model. I don't have one on order, but after seeing these lovely images, that might change
  8. Cheers. Its in with a KUA, so that explains that. A belated Happy St Patrick's Day to you.
  9. HI Fran. Are all the pre-orders dispatched now?
  10. I wondered this. If he calls him Johnny Foreigner in public, I'd love to know what he calls him in private.
  11. Just placed my pre-order with Hattons.....
  12. I think this is a rather key point. It seems pointless launching into wild speculation about what Hornby should and shouldn't be doing when on the face of it, it seems a hattons issue
  13. early days i appreciate, but there is nothing in any of these comments about cancellations from other retailers. So is it Hornby or is it hattons?
  14. And here was me about to settle down and watch a box set and i would have missed the handbags here
  15. I'm not sure they are. The class 800 is a fine model, well detailed. The 87, similarly so. But where they differ is Hornby apparent mindset of 'that'll do'. Taking care with design to allow fitting of speakers seems to be something they just did not consider, yet they repeat the mistake. Still with 8 pin decoders when most others are now on 21 and 22. And they get away with it when built down to a price. Few are critical of the 66's when they're £60. But start charging top dollar for less than stellar items and the grumbles start. With Pullman HST, not only is it a high price, but there is an additional premium because..... well, because of what? People aren't stupid and a perception that they are being ripped off will cost Hornby.
  16. Oh, I don't know, maybe getting the colour right on a 50, a 67, a 92. Things that were as easy to get right as they got wrong
  17. The way things seem to be going with their main range, it could perhaps be said that this also is not 100% accurate
  18. Nobody is expecting a whole new tooling, but drilling a hole and push fitting a piece of plastic to represent something, as i said previously and now ADB968008 has shown you, something they've done before.
  19. They've already done this for the network rail HST
  20. ∆ very interesting read. On the flip side, it never ceases to amaze me where slate roofed houses are modelled with way out of scale slates - too big, too chunky and yet they look right. Maybe 'right' is the wrong word. We know they are wrong but they look 'pleasing', a bit like the way the chubby 47 did
  21. Well its not going to be in a pub quiz for some time
  22. You know that there's a price break if you order 601?
  23. Ditto. Had the headsup from Derails (thanks!) that R30079TTS was only available from Hornby. (I did manage to get R30042TTS on preorder from Derails). Managed to get one through Hornby. BTW, Hattons are not the only site that list them for sale. At the time of writing, Gaugemaster also had them for order. Kernow have taken their link down.
  24. Very neatly sums up my Derails pre-order!
  25. The 55 gets TTS. May be sign of further stand alone decoders to come.
