  1. And to this, add second-hand items I was thinking over the "competing products" criteria that Hornby have imposed and the connection with Hatton's. Whilst the class 66 was produced by Hornby and subsequently by Hattons, I find it a very difficult pill to swallow that Hornby sincerely believe that the Hatton's 66 affected the sales of their own model. Moreover, if my memory serves me correctly, as fast as Hatton's announced a livery (Biffa, Belmond etc), Hornby announced a model in the same livery, clearly taking sales away from Hatton's. I was one of them, choosing to go for the cheap and cheerful Hornby model versus bells and whistles of the Hatton's model at double the price. So did Hornby really lose out from the Hatton's 66? I think the opposite could be argued, that sales of the Hornby 66 soared because of the interest in the Hatton's model. The argument that Hatton's operate little more than a trade counter is a little unfair. Certainly, it's not a traditional shop based where it is industrial estate, however it wouldn't be the first to exist in such premises and given the high cost of business rates in prime retail areas, the ability to hold more stock for less cost seems sensible. From my visits there, yes, products do sit on shelves behind glass display cabinets, but I don't see a problem with this and on my last visit there, I was fortunate to meet the guys from modelu and got myself scanned. They are a little bit more than "box shifters"
  2. It seems a strange thing that Hornby view a stores website as a big thing when Hornby's own Amazon store is poorly laid out and doesn't list many of the items that it actually sells. If running a website is so easy but such a deal breaker, time to get its own house in order first. I think back my previous and current local model shops. The former didn't have a website, the latter does. Both had/have an owner who was at the end of a phoneline and would move heaven and earth to get you what you asked for. Given the choice between an owner who says 'leave it with me and I'll see what i can do' versus a website that simply says 'out of stock', i know which i'd rate as Tier 1.
  3. Would seem from the other thread that it depends on where your order lies. A bricks and mortar shop seems a good bet.
  4. Its been a rollercoaster ride of emotions on this thread hasn't it? I can't help have some sympathy for Hattons. Hats off to the members who cancelled their orders with Hornby. I wonder how much more from page 26 will come true?
  5. I fully agree, but its Hornby's products, Hornby's rules. People won't stop buying Hornby products out of solidarity with Hattons. Society doesn't work like that anymore. Its all about the ME now. Forget everyone and anything else, no matter who and what i have to trample over, I WILL get what I want.
  6. Fingers crossed for Warley, it'd be great to go. I have a couple of theatre trips in july and i guess if these can go ahead it'll be promising for later in the year.
  7. If you could, that'd be great. Thanks
  8. you could always swap a house for an s-stock
  9. If we're going down the path of providing evidence for every thing we see and hear, many of these threads will dry up quickly. I'm quite sure GWR-fan is not the only contributer to have reported a rumour, 'my sources say', 'word has it that'?
  10. Quite. It seems all manufacturers are capable of making some fairly serious errors. Equally, its important to keep things in perspective. https://www.rmweb.co.uk/community/index.php?/topic/145576-ptajtajua-by-accurascale-now-with-added-bsc-inners/&do=findComment&comment=4395103
  11. if it helps with the pain, they almost instantly sold out.
  12. There is a difference though between seeing "a red light" and seeing "red light". I would imagine that a single point source of red light looks very different to the red light sourced within a cab and then diffused through the side of a cab window. Any astro photographers will recognise the use of red light in order to not destroy night vision and that it doesn't need to be very bright to provide adequate illumination to see what you're doing and not disturb other photographers. Looking straight into one of those led head torches is another matter however.... In this case, it would seem that if there is red light pouring out of the model's cab window, as John Isherwood says, its a tad too bright.
  13. Plus one on what Rugged Peak said. Placed an order bank holiday monday, had an email to say dispatched on Tuesday along with tracking info, arrived today carefully wrapped in a firm bag with styrene chips and a courtesy card. Another satisfied customer. I see they have a new website coming. At the moment, they don't have much model railway stuff on it and if its the case that a physical shop is required, this might not change. A bit cheeky for Hornby to impose such a term when they no longer have physical shops themselves....
  14. To be fair, i didn't find too many places offering discounts when i was looking for some British Steel inners, though there were one or two. Most places were out of stock. I don't have a dog in the fight, but given the uncertain times we've been through, I'd be wary about making too many assumptions on why *some* retailers are doing what they're doing. If you have bills to pay and stock sitting there, it must be hard to resist the temptation to cash in your chips.

  16. They're well worth it. Don't buy an expensive camera until you get the hang of it. Google spy camera on ebay and you should find some small cheap cameras The problem i found was that they tend to lack buttons that do stuff. It was a case of press for three seconds to power on, five seconds to start recording. Then one second to stop recording and three seconds to power off. It made my brain tired.
  17. Cheers for this. Following your advice, i did mine. There was a point when it was a little scary, but i stuck with it and it came good. It does make for a better appearance.
  18. Canns Model Railways have an accurascale sale with 15% off. https://cannsmodelsltd.co.uk/accurascale-15%-off
  19. Phillips Hue is generally regarded to be the best. It is also expensive. One strip will allow you to 'dial-in' the colour temperature you wish and if you need more light, extensions simply plug in. Lidl recently had light strips in, controllable via their app. Whilst they were a lot cheaper, they didn't seem to have as much output, nor as much versatility. As ever, it seems you get what you pay for. If you can afford it, go for Hue.
  20. Same here. Not showing as in stock on their webpage, so hopefully just slower to receive stock.
  21. The railcolor site was a fascinating read about the work of RailAdventure and how it comes to choose its locomotives. Given Class 86 has gone, how about Class 184/9, (43 squared)
