  1. The Pullman HST is a chunk pricier than the FGW, so i would expect some mods.
  2. Note the price on the blue wagons - seems they realised they sold them too cheap.
  3. Thanks for clarifying. It was a strange one because after i screenshotted the comments of facebook user 'MP' these comments also disappeared. You might remember, this is where MP doubled down on what he had said in the face of oncreasingly hostile responses. The thread lasted all day, but only went after I posted the screenshot here. What a coincidence! And here's another peculiar thing. The profile picture of MP on facebook has two people in it. These people have a striking, almost uncanny resemblance to the people in your profile picture here on RMweb. Well they do say everyone has a twin and obviously we've found yours. Twice. As Widnes Model Centre say above, amazing what you find on the internet. I think calling it nonsense and labelling people as pathetic is what invited the 'pile-on' to MP and in my opinion, he got what he deserved. As mentioned above, Widnes Model Centre have spent a lot of money on covid precautions and have like many others of us, become increasingly frustrated with the attitude of *some* of the public. We're asking you to keep your distance, clean your hands and wear a mask. Is it really that hard? Or would you like that the next mask you wear be in a hospital bed?
  4. I am aware of the .gov guidance, but when people wear masks that don't cover their nose, it certainly doesn't make a seal. Put it this way, if we have people in who 'won't' wear a mask, they wear a visor. And if they don't want to wear that, they can find somewhere else. All face coverings to various degrees offer protection from droplet transmission. A visor is impermeable. Sneeze behind it and you'll see what you haven't exhaled over someone. Seems fairly obvious to me that if you 'can't' wear a face mask, a visor is better than nothing. I mean, why wouldn't you? Personally, i think the issue with visors has come about through some of the bandit mask visors that only shield your eyes. The visors we work with run from forehead to chest and wrap around to your ears. But they only last a couple of days before the crap that they stop renders them hard to see through. Hth.
  5. Its a face covering, not per se a mask. A visor would meet the criteria.
  6. Its an interesting point about twin sound in a twin car dmu. Anyone who's put the twin tts chips into a hst will recall the 'interesting' stereo effect. And when i say interesting, i mean bloody awful. I really don't think it's as simple a matter as a twin car sounds best with twin sounds. IIRC, the realtrack units are out of sync, producing a much more realistic sound of two motors working alongside each other , rather than simply doubling the sound. But Charlie can answer that one better than me.
  7. Where are these models made? There used to be a thread about the various product codes enabling you to work out which particular factory made them. The paint is one thing, the way they seem badly screwed together seems something else
  8. Brave man cutting up his s stock for the motor.
  9. I think it is 4 ohms and that a few websites have the impedance incorrectly stated. From esu : http://www.esu.eu/en/products/accessories/loudspeakers/speaker-29mm-x-65mm/

One thing covid has taught me is to let sensational reporting and unfounded opinions pass me by, though granted, its not always easy.
  11. Quickie : Is the ESU 50343 speaker the same as an EM2 speaker? https://www.modellbahnshop-lippe.com/Digital/Speakers/ESU-50343/gb/modell_330071.html
  12. Bad luck. We're with HSBC. I agree with your point though. We have no banks left and only a part time post office counter - two mornings a week. I'd take it up with santander - if you can post your paying in slip and cheque to HMRC, why won't they accept it.

I remember that being £189 at Hattons. Effectively two locomotives and four carriages for less than 200 notes. How times have changed.
  14. Many thanks to both of you for this helpful information.
  15. When you come to do 37026, Shapfell, is it possible to double check the colour of the headcode boxes at either end? Shapfell ended her days at Wigan and there is a lot of media of her here. As far as I can determine, Shapfell had black indicator boxes at one end and yellow at the other. Seems odd, but I can't find footage of her in grey livery without these mismatched boxes.
  16. Well, the next big releases are likely to be the Heljan 86's, assuming they beat the accurascales to market. The most expensive D&E loco yet. Let's see what state of the art the premium price gets us.

    HST Midland Blue Pullman please.
  18. Oh don't worry about that. Plenty of us in this world who have long memories. Agree with you about kernow, never had anything but stellar service from them. But I'm afraid I'm brand loyal to Derails who moved heaven and earth to get me an old oak common HST and then flogged it to me cheaper because that happened to be the first day they could discount it. Like Kernow, no markup at Derails.
  19. Normally, you'd be correct, but in this case he bought it from Olivia's, so he get less aggro going to Heljan
  20. It just gets worse for Pete47401..... I wonder how the 3 for £90 bundle 'deal' is going. Still, always eBay.
  21. The damage isn't permanent, you can get it out, but it'll take time. You'll want some fine grade polishing cloths. Amazon sell them at low price and 1000 up to 3000 should see you done. Around 400 grit wet and dry might be decent place to start. After the 3000 grade cloth, some use toothpaste. Oral b is rather gritty so you might give that a miss. Once you're done, a dip with klear should restore the glaze. If you need further.info, the britmodeller website has more info. Your problem with clear plastic is very common.
  22. +1. I rang them first with a query about which type to buy. I asked would it be easier if I sent an email showing the existing coupling. They read the email but never replied.
