  1. After a long thought, I binned my order for the Hattons LL 66 and went for the Hornby. The money saved bought a tts chip (or three) and I got one of Richard's mega bass speakers too. As supplied, the speaker is an oblong one, a bit like their 67. Fitting a mega bass was mighty easy - tons of space in these basic locos. First of all I had the speaker facing up but found it produced a sound much too deep - the body cavity probably didn't help. Fitting it face down was better, but still a little deep. Cutting a few holes in the chassis and sealing the speaker down with plasticine enhanced the treble massively and gave the model the right 'zing-zing' sound, with not too much bass and none of the hiss. As supplied it is way too loud, but I was absolutely made up with the sound quality. I thought the 08 was good, but given a few tweaks, this is outstanding and it put a real smile on my face. And £25 in the antics sale!
  2. Uh, nice try, but as the preceding posts make clear, what is on display on the DToS website is very different to what it was at launch. The 'advertising the APT' is just a link - it gives no details of the spec or prices, and in fact only even links to the DJM homepage. It's no different to the various posts here that link to DJM. Back at launch, the site allowed you to order it from DToS
  3. It isn't. It redirects to the DJM website.
  4. Changed the speaker to one of Richard's which filled the cab. The transformation was incredible. Definitely move the supplied speaker to the spares box. The 08 tts is their best diesel yet. Cold start is great and the gentle idling of the loco is lovely. The child in me loves the toot toot
  5. Applying a bit of counter logic here then: Please don't lock the thread, Please don't lock the thread, Please don't lock the thread, Please don't lock the thread,
  6. 'Let's hope so' perhaps isn't quite the right phrase, but Hornby can't have failed to look at the TTS decoders and note that they have been popular. Sure, they are not to everyone's cup to tea and they are not without faults, but in general, they remain a cheap and cheerful means of adding more fun to the loco. We don't know what the future holds, but i'd be surprised if Hornby can them - perhaps they are to be tweaked with better speakers or perhaps speaker-free (a better idea) for us to fit our own and possibly running a little cooler than they currently do. Looking slightly wider afield, Hornby seem to be a little bit more switched on to people accepting short-comings so long as the price is right.
  7. Fitted one with its own speaker (behind the radiator) at the weekend, but the sound was extremely quiet and hissy, so as Richard suggests, perhaps upgrade the speaker to something audible
  8. It was touched upon before, but having thought about this, I think the reason for the IP work is that he hopes this will give him an income stream, by fair means or foul. That he feels the need to do this might generate a suspicion that income from other avenues is becoming tight.
  9. Yes, I noticed that. Almost like he could see the future
  10. If 30 pages aren't enough, some very interesting light reading here.
  11. Have a look at the Accurascale thread - there's no probably about it.
  12. I see the first competitor to report a metaphorical two fingers to this announcement has recently appeared
  13. I suspect Dave still reads this thread. I wonder if he looks at the comments, particularly of those from now ex-crowdfunders and realise that this announcement has actually done his business a spectacular degree of harm. If he truly believed in his idea of IP protection, he could have just quietly done it. Instead, a big fanfare, an promised exciting journey, only to be told that if he gets his way, he's cutting choice. Way to get people on board Dave. Accurascale went to tooling with their 92 yesterday. Now that image of the 92 roof really does promise an exciting journey. And the servo panto. I wonder how the APT fan boys are feeling right now. Their model wasn't listed in his IP registrations.
  14. So he's registered the J94. Didn't Hornby produce it before him and still have it in their catalogue? In other words, a model HE chose to duplicate. Does he think any of this through?
  15. I agree with you about the nail in the coffin, but not the hobby.
  16. He suggests the latter. In reality, it's closer to the former. Neither will work. Glad I'm not crowd funding this.
  17. Released! http://www.djmlocos/fell.co.uk
  18. I would not totally discount something along these lines
  19. I have to say, the way he gets people talking about his business is outstanding. I think the day (international workers day) implies something communist, so i'm going to go for a Romanian Class 56 or Kestrel. again. again.

    Hornby 66s

Absolutely. A few packs of mgr hoppers would be very welcome
  21. That's quirky. I had 2 gaugemasters fail to work an 05 when the Bachmann chip worked fine. Turning the gaugemasters around caused then to go pop
