  1. Sounds more like, seconds out round two of the arguments!
  2. This was not a BR C&W repair but Wagon Repairs using the siding to wheel exchange on an Alcan hired wagon!
  3. Its not that long ago there was vast amounts of Central Door Locking equipment in scrap yards but I doubt much was recovered!
  4. The incentive was guaranteed hire by the Government which I understand several took advantage of!
  5. Nothing travels faster than bad news and good news doesn’t sell newspapers!
  6. From memory without checking, it’s the former VDA that became the generator van for the Skako ballast delivery train which are the hoppers next to it rather than auto hoppers!
  7. Found the photo' of the one at Leeming Bar in the BP livery that it was withdrawn from mainline use in before going into internal use at BP Grangemouth before initially entering preservation at Bowness.
  8. In this there is confusion between the postwar Carbon Dioxide tanks and the prewar Ethanol tanks (industrial alcohol). The Hornby rtr tank is the former Airfix rtr one and they remained in traffic till the early 1970’s but in BP use after the Hull plant was sold to them; the last remaining tank is now at Leeming Bar on the Wensleydale Railway,
  9. Time to watch Genevieve again or at least the last five minutes!
  10. Do you mean the Charles Roberts design 22 ton hopper that was produced prewar as a Private Owner and later by BR as the diagram 1/161 ironstone hopper later uprated to 24 ton as dia'1/162? The current offering dates back to Mainline and has only evolved by the use of a different chassis as the are too long on a 17'6" chassis with 10' wheelbase rather than 16'6" with 9' wheelbase. The body is too narrow and sits on a paving stone!
  11. Hornby seem to specialise in this, failing to grasp the potential of their models especially wagon chassis that have been reused!
  12. The topic title caused me to ignore it till I received an Email from the LT Museum to realise this is a new model and deserves better publicity!
  13. However the debate about modern image will still not be settled!
  14. Buy cheap buy twice and have all the problems that are associated with it, just look at the East Coast masts north of Colton and those west on the Church Fenton extension.
  15. You mean the Mainline one with newer style couplings!
  16. BR were still using pregouping companies on instructions till well into the 60’s. The up and down midland at Leeds only gained the names in the 1990’s modernisation & resignalling.
  17. These were one of the early all steel 20 ton hoppers but I expect that they didn't survive in mainline use post war and there were examples at Millom and Workington postwar.
  18. This banner has appeared on the site tonight but won't allow it to open the link! It looks like BSC Port Talbot livery?
  19. It was a popular design and was supplied by Charles Roberts to several Iron Works.
  20. Accountants have ruled the world especially since the war, having won the war and lost the peace. Them there was the perception of trains being so old fashioned mixed with lots of war surplus road lorries as had happened after 1918. The nationalisation that went unnoticed was the trunk roads and it can be noticed in the difference between Highways Agency ones and County Council ones!
  21. It was more the prevalence of continental wagons that were only single piped that brought about the demise of the twin pipe Air Brake system!
  22. Probably about 1985 and the reservoir pipes were gradually removed when getting maintenance!
