    The biggest problem with the current way of planning is the logic is everyone wants to go to London and have short journey times meaning that intermediate stations suffer along with many intermediate journeys. Berwick to Northallerton is a hard journey with forty minutes waiting at Darlington not being unusual! Too many trains for the amount of railway.

    Personally the it’s more the lettering style on them that spoils them as it looks far too modern, personally I’d go for a maroon/red colour but that’s me being skewed by experience! My layout would have a Bedlington and District Luxury Coaches Bristol LH as was common in Northumberland in the 1980’s. The main qualification to drive these was to have been sacked by United.

    Many years ago Whitley Bay had a layout where the board was aligned and joined with Door Hinges with the pin removed and using Allen key s as the pin. Ironically this idea is now used on house doors!

    An example of what is in the PO registers and all of this had to be transcribed using paper and pencil, as until recent years and the advent of digital photography it was time consuming. This is an easy one to read as many are in copperplate type script.
