  1. Digging up an old thread here, but I recognise it reaches the same conclusion that I reached, looking for the 'best' single chimney, apple green, LNER FS 4472. It could be a R3250, but I'd have to consider repainting the roof, or the R2687. Surely there's got to be a BIG market for Hornby to introduce an excellent representation, without the limited edition paraphernalia so as not to detract from these models? Is there a plan at all? This is definitely THE model missing from the line-up I believe .... of many of course. Al.
  2. That's an excellent photo, and I can see extra detail there. Thanks for sharing. Al.
  3. I'm going to get shot down here!! To me, it doesn't look THAT MUCH better than the Bachmann LN. I could line up my 30850 alongside a Hornby one and not feel like I need to sell it and get a Hornby be one. Possibly its the 'little extra details' not exposed which make the difference? Al.
  4. Sam's Trains does a YT review of the new retooled streamlined Coronation, and alongside the 'noughties' one for comparison - good effort Sam. I was a little displeased as well that the safety valves in front of the cab are no longer separate brass inserts, simply moulded plastic, 'brass colour' painted. Just ordered a DoH off an auction site - so will finally receive one within a week. Still looking forwards to it. I've read some are having problems with the valvegear alignment? Al.
  5. To be honest, that's what I was thinking with my OP. The project still appears to be advancing quite nicely, and even the Railroad model looks pretty much spot on - a full fat would be brilliant. Al.
  6. If it's already been broached my apologies. Must be a prime subject for a 'new addition' to the Hornby range, with the advancing progress of 2007 PoW? Al.
  7. IMHO definitely one of the more interesting and historically relative and important additions to the diesel fleets within Britain's railways. I'm definitely a fan of them - having to buy 'a pair' is somewhat limiting however. This model does look fantastic - detailing superb. Al.
  8. It is a forum, which is supposed to permit (relatively) open discussion and fair comments and opinions. I think this is what is being expressed, generally, in this and most other threads. I've 'invested' in this project as well, and am happy with that ... Let's see how it develops in the next couple of months' time. Al.
  9. I do read this thread and feel a lot of displeasure and resentment, then read 'that other thread' and everyone is chomping at the bit .... If this were a thread for my work, I'd be asking myself 'what's the point if this is what they think?' .... I do understand that it has dragged far longer than originally anticipated. There was a recent response to 'the other company's declaration' and comments made. Al.
  10. I remember when the first Mainline 45 came out, and what a huge step-change in moulding detail it represented .... !! How times (and expectations) change. Al.
  11. Hi guys. Thanks for the additional material during Sunday. I've actually travelled temporarily to hotter, and often much wetter climes - Zambia for a couple of weeks - work, not parks!! One thing I can definitely attempt is to remove the grease and lightly oil - I know I have a fair amount of grease there. I cannot see it remotely getting close to my Pendolino's speed - that actually has had coaches flying off it's that fast, on 3rd radius!! For reference I use a HM2000 which doesn't supply THAT much power, just more-than enough. For my Super Detail HST and the Pendolino, I take them up to the step before max, which is definitely approaching a scale 125 on both - both are superb flyers. Back to the top, I'll try a good clean up, ensure the driveshafts / dogbones engage well, then see if it improves. That HST motor should have arrived at work over the weekend, so MIGHT be an option - Hornby do seem to have better motors in many locomotives. Al.
  12. I saw the Titanic at our local boating lake last week. Look, let's see what happens - I'm keen to see this make good progress and see what Dave has 'up his sleeve' as well. Al.
  13. Sometimes stating the obvious is embarrassing but at least it clarifies!! Should be fun at scale, 'though I managed to do the same with my Hornby Super Detail HST for a few laps without major issue, albeit at reduced speed ... What length are the rakes typically - stay at 5-coach, or multiples of, not exceeding 10? Al.
  14. That does look 'special'. Is 'running backwards' going to be a regular thing - just seems 'wrong' even if 'push-pull' services have been commonplace for decades? Al.
  15. If it was packaging, you shouldn't be able to do any laps, surely. Can't think of any other reason to have foam there either. Al.
  16. This has definitely been quite an adventure, for me as well as others, doubtless, and that was from just a couple of days ago!! I had been on the lookout for a 'decent 92', had decided the Hornby one is certainly 'adequate' but doesn't match the Super Detail models I have of theirs, and that I wanted to maintain my 'modern image' stock as near all wheel drive as possible - avoiding tyres where possible ... and I fell upon DJM ... I placed a deposit ... same day, several hours later, 'another company' declared they were making one!! I think both 'new additions' are going to be brilliant, and personally, will stay with my recent DJM order. Those with Accurascale, I'm sure that will be excellent as well. I'm looking forwards to this, and the forthcoming developments of the model, through to final purchase and eventual delivery. Al.
  17. I am happy. I just think a little initiative could have helped some of the more-serious modellers permitting them to trial both, yet have different numbers - seemed a no-brainer that. Did EWS only run one Class 92? Yes, the same 'serious modellers' do know how to renumber / rename correctly. I've seen so many nice locomotives totally 'botched' on a certain auction site, considering the the doubtless detail of the pending products, I'm not one of them .... That was the point. Al.
  18. Posted 19th August 2016, Dave declared the EWS locomotive to be Victor Hugo 92 001. Why the #$% is Accurascale creating the exact same one? Surely it's a perfect opportunity to provide the enthusiast / modeller with not only an alternative manufacturer, but an alternative model. Accurascale are creating their EWS rendition as 92 001 as well - that's a bit lacking somewhere which requires something I reckon!! Sorry if a little harsh, but there are enthusiasts who may want more than one EWS rendition, and this could have been a perfect opportunity for them. Al.
  19. QED as I would say - I am a chemist by trade btw .... The RD, as mentioned isn't that light, but it's hardly dense. Comments go for the easily worked, limited toxicity variety, etc ... that rules out Pb obviously. It isn't that reactive either, which would help. Mention within the infamous Wiki states Mazak rot set in through poorer grades of Zn being used. When respected, maintaining at '4 nines' (99.99%) or above if possible, then it's fine. W would be nice, just a little hard and expensive ... but where there's a will, and a decent production set-up, there's a way. Al.
  20. Thanks for the tip, and understood regarding the springs - not really a serviceable item these days, the motors!! I might have some luck with the alternative motor, 'though I'm not holding up much hope. I would like it to be able to compete with the Hornby Pendolino and HST - they have performance to spare, which permits me to throttle back. Taking to '11' just to approach a reasonably realistic speed is a joke, particularly considering how much they cost - and how good they look, which they definitely do!! It does seem to be a 'trend' for many manufacturers to reduce the power of the motors, permitting lower power consumptions, etc., so a retool doesn't excite me too much, unfortunately. Al.
  21. I don't get that impression so far anyway. There is another Theresa May influenced occurrence which may or may not happen in a couple of months' time which could have an additional influence in proceedings here .... Al.
  22. I thought the 86's were old, and I grew up with them, and latterly the 87's, but 73's .... still going? Says something for the original design!! Al.
