  1. In the High Dyke photos: 1E01 is the 08:00 Edinburgh to KX From the formation C1017 is the 11:05 SO KX-Newcastle 1A03 is the 07:30 Leeds-KX
  2. 1A27 is the 13:15 Newcastle-KX (Saturday train as it is Mk1 stock) 1L33 is the 16:05 KX-Harrogate (Saturday Yorkshire Pullman with 2 Pullman cars) From the formation, 40147 looks to be 1A37 09:28 SO Bridlington-KX
  3. The DMU should be the 13:22 Huntingdon-Hitchin. The T headcode letter in 8T51 stands for a trip working. 1S33 is the 13:00 KX-Edinbugh (normally a class 47 working) 1D03 is the 12:45 KX-Hull 5B00 is the 13:05 New England to Holloway CS.
  4. Going by the 1961 allocations listed in Pullman Profile No 3 by Ford it was Kitchen Firsts - Belinda Eunice Ione Nilar, Parlour First - Phyllis & Parlour Second - 84. Whether these remained allocated as such, I can't say. It should be noted that Belinda was fitted with 10ft Gresley bogies and 84 was a 1931 build car and had 3-part window quarterlights rather than the 4-part on the 1928 cars.
  5. 1P21 is the 16:05 StP-Derby 1E72 is the 16:20 StP-Sheffield 1C65 is the 16:03 Nottingham-StP Logically C1943 should be the 16:25 StP-Nottingham although the formation doesn't match C1944 is the 16:50 StP-Nottingham
  6. 1S42 is the 16:00 KX-Edinburgh, however the May 71 date is wrong as air-conditioned stock wasn't introduced on this train at this time. I would think May 72 would be a better bet. 1H02 is the 12:40SO KX-Hull (with the extra TSO at the head) 1A32 is the 17:00 Newc-KX 1L34 is the 17:30 KX-Leeds/Bradford/Halifax
  7. LMR Carriage Working Notices between 1957 to 1961 show it in the 08:10 (or thereabouts) Liverpool Lime Street to Euston and return at 16:55 (or thereabouts) - named The Shamrock. In the winter 1965 CWN it is shown in 09:40 Manchester Piccadilly to Euston and 18:05 return - named The Mancunian. As the Winter timetable ran until April 1966 and the introduction of the full WCML Electric Service, this would tie in with a withdrawal around this time. The Oct 1966 Railway Observer has it noted on 26th June at Derby as condemned. Mark Jenkins PS. The 1928 Kitchen First in the Sheffield Pullman must be BELINDA as it is fitted with 10ft Gresley Bogies.
  8. 38-600 has erroneously been given the same shade of (rail) grey as 38-601. It should be the darker 1950's BR grey.
  9. 1A11 is the 09:00 Hull-KX (with an extra TSO on the front it should be the FSO train. 4th coach should be LFK E14900) The class 40 is on 2N45 the down Highwayman Finsbury Park-Newcastle (normally with a Thomson RB) The 47 on an up train is the 09:20 Leeds-KX (with Bradford & Halifax portions at the rear, out of sight) 1N18 is the 15:00 KX-Newcastle 1N10 is the 11:00 KX-Newcastle (which would normally have been Deltic-hauled)
  10. 1S35 is the 14:00 KX-Edinburgh 1N18 is the 15:00 KX-Newcastle C717 would be the ThFSO 12:00 Edinburgh-KX with the extra Mk2a TSO at the front 1D08 is the 16:15 KX-Cleethorpes
  11. Mk2d/e/f air-conditioned coaches were introduced from April 1975 on the Midland Main Line. The 31/4's were for empty carriage workings to Cricklewood (replacing Classs 25's). The 31/4's didn't last very long and 45/1's were used instead.
  12. Kevin, because the road was originally named Cambridge Street (Old Maps 1916 although renamed Camley Street by 1953). The nearby signal box which was the 1st block post out of St Pancras up to the 1957 re-signalling was also called Cambridge Street. The yard itself originally dealt with coal wagons from Cambridge Street coal drops just south of the canal. D5225 & D5409 in BrushVeteran's photos stand on the former connection to the coal drops. The yard would have been converted to a diesel depot in c1960. The 2 most eastern sidings were shortened so the fuel storage tanks could be sited there. The single road shed was added in the mid-60's.
  13. Up to March 1967, the 3rd portion started from Hull and was added to the front of the train at Doncaster. The 10:30 from Leeds would have been the combined Bradford and Harrogate portions. After that time Hull had a separate train and the Yorkshire Pullman was only Harrogate and Bradford portions. Deltics were only rostered for the up Yorkshire Pullman from May 1971 when it became a 1st Class Pullman/Second Class ordinary service. Usual power in 1965 to 67 would have been Class 47 or 46. The down service was Deltic hauled though.
  14. There is a photo of 5624 in Kings Cross Lineside 1958-1984 by David Percival. The caption states it ran through the buffer stops and down the embankment in the early hours of 17/02/1971. The author took the photo that evening. It was hauled back to rail level 2 days later. The headcode is "5B.."
  15. A definite improvement on the blue/grey, Brian. Let's hope Hornby amend their 2nd batch! The Airfix apertures are slightly larger than the Extreme Etches. However the Airfix sides are very thick and there is a pronounced taper inwards. If you take a measurement on the inside of the body, it is smaller. The main problem with the Airfix windows is that the corner radius is too tight, giving them a square look. The addition of the etches makes a huge improvement.
  16. Andy, so what you are saying if I understand you correctly, is that the apertures are basically the right size, but they are too high up the body by about 0.5mm and the frames are too thin by the same amount. Therefore the bottom of the Hornby frame (underneath aperture) is 1mm too high up the coachside.
  17. All Midland Mainline rakes, from 1970 onwards, were provided by the LMR. Therefore you wouldn't have seen ER allocated Mk2d stock.
  18. What measurements are you getting? The both seem very close - just under 20mm long and 8.5mm in height.
  19. Correction to one of the captions - D9019 at Doncaster is on a down express (not up). The train is the 12:00 KX-Aberdeen.
  20. In all there were 12 brakes that worked with the 44 Mk1 Pullmans. Original brake cars 77 - 80 and conversions from Kitchen Seconds 67-72, 81 & 82. In addition there were 6 1928 cars retained on the ECML services as spares - 4 Kitchen Firsts, 1 Parlour First & 1 Parlour Second. This pool of 62 cars made up the 5 sets of cars required - 2 for the Queen of Scots and 1 each for the Tees-Tyne Pullman, Yorkshire Pullman & the Master Cutler. No pre-1928 cars were used. If a 1928 brake was unavailable a Mk1 BG or other brake type was substituted + another Pullman car.
  21. The Gresley bogies on CAR 81 had a 10ft wheelbase. Kitchen first BELINDA also received them. I presume they were fitted in the early to mid 1950s. Not sure why though.
  22. Tony, the Bachmann Mk1 sides are about 0.5mm too high and consequently the overall height is as well. The new Hornby Mk1 however is spot-on and would be a better comparison.
  23. Going by the formation which has an RKB/RUO catering combination, 1S17 in this case is not the Flying Scotsman, but the 10:00SuO KX-Edinburgh which was not named and stopped at many more stations. The Flying Scotsman formation at this time on Mondays to Saturdays had an RMB amongst the Mk2a TSOs and RU/RUO restaurant cars between 1st & 2nd class. 1A17 is the 09:30SO Newcastle-KX 1A28 is the 15:30 Leeds-KX
