  1. Thanks,I'll look into this a bit further. Cheers Phil
  2. Good evening all,I'm looking to fit a point motor to my hand built point.I'd use a solenoid one,but I want to prolong the life of the tie bars, and solenoid motors are, shall we say, rather positive in their action.I would prefer to keep all accessories analogue if at all possible,I know how that works and can wire it all up. Over to you for suggestions, please. Thanks Phil
  3. Or maybe cover with tissue paper to simulate canvas? Paint and weather to suit? atb Phil
  4. Took the very words out of my mouth! Another fine effort Andy. Will watch the video later. atb Phil
  5. At the moment, the only track plan that exists is inside my head. When everything is sited to suit,I will get one drawn up.Last time I thought it was all sorted out, I ended up buying 2 more points, because : 1)I'd miscounted the number of left and right ones, 2) A curved point gave me a bit more room at the bridge end,and a better radius. So now I have a dodgy 6' radius and a catch point looking for a home. Never mind, tomorrow is another day! atb Phil
  6. That's an idea I'll have to look into, thanks for that. atb Phil
  7. A little interlude on the kitchen table has produce a slightly improved mockup of the bridge.A shredded wheat box and a bit of sellotape go a long way.Jst wondering now what to build it from, bearing in mind it will be "built " from random stone, which may mean covering in in Das clay and scribing stone blocks on it.I do have some 6 mm ply in the shed which might do for the carcase. What do you think? ps Apologies for dodgy photos. Cheers Phil
  8. He now runs C & L,down in South London. atb Phil (Different one!)
  9. I just rang Phil up and ordered them.Easy as. atb Phil
  10. Peco do wired fishplates which are suitable for code 124 rail.IIRC is says so on the pack.I'm using them where I can, will have to solder the rest.Bound to be the most inaccessible ones knowing my luck! atb Phil
  11. C & L have brass and plastic mouldings, both like 12" - 1' fishplates. Solder the brass one, glue the plastic. It's a bit fiddly, but improves the appearance of the track panels no end. Speaking as a satisfied customer. atb Phil
  12. I have mentioned my experiences with Dapol 7 mm wheelsets here before.Check the back to back and adjust by twisting the wheels as you move them,in or out.I found the B2B tended to be too small. Dapol's QC on wheelsets seems to leave a lot to be desired. atb Phil
  13. Hi Peter, B looks to be the way forward, you aren't putting any stress on the soldered joint while bending the pin.IIRC,pins can be quite tough to bend.Best of all would be do all the bending before you do any soldering.Perhaps you could do some trials as to how big a hole you would need to get the tail of the bent pin through, then make a washer to prevent the tie bar from falling over the pin head, fit before soldering the pin to the rails. If that makes sense. atb Phil
  14. I can tell you without fear nor favour,it's bad enough doing it in 5" gauge let alone in 7 mil............... atb Phil
  15. I would say the right hand one,the other two colours are more reminiscent of paper potato sacks. From memory there was a touch of grey in the colour, especially if they had weathered and faded. atb Phil
  16. When I was delivering tunnel segments to a railway job the other year at Haywards Heath,we started out wearing yellow Hi-viz,while on site but after a couple of weeks we had to change to orange and then also orange trousers..Having complied I then Asked The Question ...Why? the reply from the Safety Elves was" so the driver doesn't mistake you for a Green Flag(?)...... My reply to this was " really? Even when at the shaft heads all you could see of the trains were the roofs." There was no way the driver could see anyone stood on the back of the truck. Draw your own conclusions........
  17. That's a long train for you, Andy! atb Phil ps I had some other random stone walling (Choo Choos ?),which Barry says is getting in short supply and is DEAR !(£12 a sheet 10" x 3")!! Got to cut costs!
  18. Chris, I just used a ball pein hammer and placed the kit sides on a couple of pieces of thickish corrugated cardboard .You would need something with a little bit of give. Don't be heavy handed, that's the only bit of advice I can give you, looking back over the years! atb Phil
  19. Many years ago,I had a few Airfix minerals. To simulate the dents in the side and end sheets I took a 12" - foot hammer to them,......carefully! I was pleasantly surprised by the results,as they actually looked like the ones I saw passing every day. My weathering was rubbish though! atb Phil
  20. Dear God,Andy. All these videos to watch,I'll never get anything done.................Keep 'em coming !! atb Phil
  21. Three Shredded wheat? That's a doddle Craig, can you do 12 DRY Jacob's Cream Crackers? Thanks for those kind words! Cheers Phil
