Well, I hadn’t originally planned to buy this loco, I’ve got two now (Jacks Green & Beatrice) ! 🙄 Both very smooth runners and I particularly like how the cab glazing has been fitted, no nasty one piece plastic glazing bars here ! If I was being (very) picky, I would have liked etched name plates and brass safety valves/whistles, but for the very reasonable price these are selling for can always pick these up else where. All bodes well for future models.

Personally feel that many of the Robinson designed /Beyer Peacock built loco’s for the GCR are amongst the most beautiful steam locomotives ever built.

I received mine from Locomotion a couple of days ago and must admit it’s a tricky one ! Can’t decide whether to return for a replacement or not. Heljan are to be applauded for making such an intricate model but for the price I think that rather unrealistically people expect perfection. My particular example had four lamp irons fitted at angles which I have managed to straighten and chipped paintwork (most of which is only visible when photographed with a digital camera) which should be easy to touch-up. The chains are fitted at different lengths or possibly have links glued as one poster suggested but most frustrating of all is that one of the cab steps, which seems to be made up of six separate parts, is twisted. It’s still a lovely model which I count myself very lucky to own, but those steps ! btw. Any tips on how to raise the pantograph please ?

Overhead warning symbols are different era/colour too ! 😂

Hi, Can I ask about the ‘stay alive’ please ? The spec states “DCC ready with PowerPack capacitor for uninterrupted power” whereas a recent review suggests that these are only included on the dcc fitted models ! With a view to future upgrade of course. Thanks.

Hi, Looking at the two Locomotion models, can anyone please let me know whether the version with the raised handrails on the bonnet is correct for this time ? In other words, once the pantograph was moved from the bonnet to the roof would the handrails also be changed ? Thanks.

Hi, I went ahead and bought a second one of these loco’s, which I don’t regret for a minute. The only thing that continues to ‘irk’ me is the much discussed tender drawbar. The main issue being that although there are four pins to the tender, only two are used for track power. This makes fitting a speaker rather difficult and I don’t want to go to the extra expense of adding an after market sound decoder to the loco if the original speaker isn’t up to the job or there is no viable way around it. Does anybody have any experience or thoughts about this please ? Like I say, it’s not the end of the world and I’m very pleased with the loco’s otherwise. With thanks.

Personally I take Sam’s reviews with a pinch of salt, that’s not to say that he has some sort of agenda, I watch his reviews to check the detail and mechanism of loco’s and leave it at that.
