  1. Interesting that this is *so* rare https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/194996595182?mkcid=16&mkevt=1&mkrid=711-127632-2357-0&ssspo=pVM4VV1IS0K&sssrc=2047675&ssuid=&widget_ver=artemis&media=COPY that the seller has got a second one to sell https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/194997149802?mkcid=16&mkevt=1&mkrid=711-127632-2357-0&ssspo=pVM4VV1IS0K&sssrc=2047675&ssuid=&widget_ver=artemis&media=COPY
  2. I don't believe the gentleman said that Hornby told him it wasn't available, he says Someone Did and so he cancelled his order.
  3. Is it my imagination, and trust me I've looked all over to see if anyone agrees with me, but I firmly believe the Scenecraft Modern Farming Figures set appears to include Charlie Dimmock and Alan Titchmarsh I assume that makes the guy on the right the Other One Nobody Remembers.
  4. Are these two liveries really DCC-Fitted only? I'm a die-hard analogue addict and I'd happily love to see that blue & yellow one going round my loop, but not if i'm paying for decoders i don't need/want/can use That blue & yellow is *so* gorgeous.
  5. But, in that case they've done one lap less than the other cars... could be seen as an "advantage". YMMV.
  6. (see https://datatracker.ietf.org/doc/html/rfc2119 )
  7. I see it as the difference between "*any* *should*" compared to "*all* *must*" "should" isn't mandatory, "must" is..
  8. I use Fox's Fox Transfers specialise in model railway vinyl stickers and transfers (fox-transfers.co.uk)
  9. And the price is the same as the D, only £199.95; not the £220 of the Imp Precident. Although its a sad thing that they started off in Grey and didn't appear in fully-lined green. So I'll skip the SECR version and take an Olive please.
  10. ok. 25mph is a more reasonable 50% throttle. It does look painfully slow. But then I was whizzing a terrier around this morning and those think they're an 80's smokey joe.
  11. Well, it arrived today, before lunch so i've placed it on my loop and its running in. Looks nice. (I've not poured over it because i'm "at work") But it's ... rather sluggish. I've got the controller (hm2000) up full blast and its doing a scale 35 to 40 mph (measured by a Black Cat speedometer wagon). Let's see what its like after an hour's running.
  12. Of course, my wife did come running to see what all my shouting was. "I'VE FOUND A SPRING!" The elation at locating a spring that's so small I can't even measure it caused me to evince such sheer jubilation she thought I'd hurt myself. If I could dance I'd have danced a little jig; however I was still trying to locate the other pieces so sharp movements seemed a bad idea.
  13. re "or are the Kato products designed so the close couplers can be easily swapped for the standard 'Arnold' N, or vice versa?" I bought the yellow open observation car and was disappointed that it had the close-coupling type installed as standard. But it came with the "Arnold " couplings, so I got the high-magnification glasses and tugged everything apart and pushed it all back together and lo and behold! There it was able to couple to me GEX... Then I dropped it on the floor and the bits went everywhere.
  14. "Sam" used to maintain model locomotives as his main job, he definitely knows his way around the insides of an engine, which you would realise if you watched more of his content. He knows what makes a loco mechanism work and how to troubleshoot issues far more than I do that's for sure and far more than the average person would. I can't understand the attitude that says the way he runs his engines means you can't take him seriously. That's just plain snobbish. If a log runs WELL on his layout then I'm sure it'll run well on your perfectly laid track. His reviews are all done on the same layout; he purchases all his locomotives himself rather than being given review samples and frankly I think that makes his reviews far more consistent and unbiased than anything you'll read in one of the magazines and also compared to many other online reviewers. He does some silly things with locomotives at times, but he's young, he'll get over it. Good thing: its a free internet, you don't *have* to watch him, or anything that offends you...
  15. re: "Actually it would be my problem as if the smart (gas) meter is unpowered it will cut off the gas which is why I wanted to know what happened with the battery." They aren't allowed to do that.
  16. As I think Rapido would be the only be people brave enough, I think they should do a finescale OO model of the Holden 101. I'm sure there's a market...
  17. yes you would in theory get more profit, from having 1000 - when you sell them. until then you've spent all that money on getting them built but without the cash in pocket of the sales. Even Hornby have to look at their cash flow - you can only build what you can afford to build even if you can sell more than that... Modern outsourced manufacturing isn't something I'd like to be basing a business on..
  18. Luckily this seller managed to spell "gauge" correctly. I suspect that was more luck than judgement. But the really funny thing, I think is the "Brand New" categorisation.
  19. Well, I was going to get this haystackmodel, but as its not P4 I'm not interested...
  20. So we have a new Rails website, as I see you can all tell. I had to go through the create a new account - I couldn't just log on with my details from last week. Good: Presumably because I used the same email address as my prior account, it shows my existing pre-order. The rest of the account details tho' seem missing, there' are no Addresses and (i'm not about to place an order just to see) presumably no credit card details. In fact I'd be worried if there were exiting credit card details there. Website looks good so far, I like the way it looks a lot like the old website... I'm a fuddy-duddy like that.
  21. Oliver Cromwell is begging to be purchased...
  22. The annoying thing is that I'd been thinking, as retirement planning is starting to play on my mind, that I'd love nothing better than to run a Model Railway Shop when I leave all this office work behind... Bother,.
  23. I don't expect John Lewis to be in Tier 1. Why would they need to be? I don't see them wanting or needing to be able to take pre-orders of stock or to worry about the sort of things we're concerned with here?
