  1. Further to my earlier post. The Facebook conversation goes on to say that come may the loco hauled services will only operate North of Borrow (post by a member of Northern staff I think) Ian
  2. So according to Facebook Northern attended a meeting last night in Ulverston. They admit that their service reliability is poor on the coast and to help the first loco hauled service off Carlise in a morning is going to be limited stop..... There is something in the local paper http://www.nwemail.co.uk/news/barrow/Not-good-enough-Northerns-frank-admissions-over-series-of-rail-failures-9bcc16a5-34e8-4689-b64d-38e6998e313c-ds but it fails to mention this bit of the tail. Likewise, Facebook users did not go on to suggest that this may apply to all the loco hauled sevices on the coast! NB. I did not attend the meeting, nor can I find anything in print to back this up. But by the standards, I know the chap who wrote it and trust what he says. Ian
  3. Just a thought that just hit me........ A by-product of this could be the chart train market such as VSOE and the A1 trust Ian
  4. Wow. I have just found this thread. Thank god it's not just me! I started my layout a few years back, and all was going well. Then some personal problems hit and my wife also got attacked at work. She ended up having her knee broken by a patient at where she worked and due to other health issues had to leave her job (and I am glad she did). This ended up causing a major impact with money, which in turn leads onto a troublesome home life. She got a new job which eased things, and we got a finances back in order after a lot of hard work for the pair of us. Then it was the turn of my job, I managed to move wards at work (out of the frying pan and into the fire!), but I feel better for it in myself. Now I have found time to get back and involved in my local steam railway, bought some more stock for my layout, and even found time and energy to do a bit of work on it. What I have found to be useful (like others have said), is to set myself a small goal. I am working on one board at a time. This months task is to paint the track on that board. Granted, it's not a big job, but every little helps. Now having found this thread, and typed this I feel like I have been to the Betty Ford clinic!!!! Kind regards Ian
  5. An out of order sign is irrelevant in this case. The coach was not safe to use. Not everyone that travels on our preserved line can read English, then there is the passengers that have vision problems be that something in your eye or some degree of blindness. As for the people that say it was busy and they don't have many coaches... Tuff, if it is not safe to use then take it out of traffic. Or in the case of this one don't let it into traffic! Ian

Well... It's been a little time since I have done any work on the layout...... Still, I seem to have found a jar of "modelling mojo" buried on the work bench last week, and even found time to play with full size trains... I have been looking at a photo in a book of Levens Junction box which was at the Ulverston end of the Levens Viaduct about 1/2 a mile from Plumpton Junction. together with Greenodd Junction they formed a triangle at the connection for the Lakeside branch. However, finding a decent photo has proved somewhat challenging. It appears to be the same Furness design as Dalton Junction box, of which photos are a bit easier to get hold of. So hear is the start of my attempt... Things where going fine until I rediscovered this (along with muscles that I forget I had)..... A day of jacking and packing track. I have got to say P-way work is less painful in 00 gauge Ian
  9. I hope that that is a mistake (on the part of how it has been put on there)! I have plans to travel.... Ian
  10. Well according to a friend on Facebook. The first class 88 is been delivered to Carlisle on Tuesday by road. His statement is copied and pasted below. 88002 apparently. "Not strictly rail I know but for anyone living near the M6 the first Sparkycat or 88 is enroute by road to Carlisle for delivery on Tuesday so should transit Preston area either late Monday or crack of Sparrows Tuesday. If not deemed relevant feel free to delete. The remainder are to ship in via Workington in two batches of 4 and 5 with the 7 new 68s not far behind" Ian
  11. Just to resurrect this topic..... I didn't realise about the polarity issue till I got a second class 28 for Christmas and spotted the sticker saying "polarity corrected" which the first one doesn't have. The link above no longer works. Does any body have the details of what I need to do to correct the first one please? Also does it affect the loco when been used in DC, DCC or both? Many thanks Ian
  12. First it was the steam train pics, now a loco with a boiler..... That's how it all starts... You'll be driving steam trains next Ian
  13. An emergency trip to the dentist for my good lady meant some time to kill in Grange Over Sands and around the time of the DRS 37 working...... So as the weather was nice I nipped down to Kents Bank (Wed 7th Sept 2016) 156480 was arriving as I got there working the 2C52 10:09hrs service Barrow in Furness to Lancaster Then 37402 on the 2C47 10:04hrs Preston to Barrow in Furness service, first shot just after it had crossed Arnside viaduct Then as it leaves Kents Bank Ian
  14. I saw 409 on light engine move today (sandwiched between 68017 and 37059) from Kingmoor to Crewe Ian

  16. Well, train or bus seems to be an issue? Why not have the best of both worlds and send down some 142's Coat, hat and run for the door...... Ian
  17. Had to take SHMBO to an appointment in Lancaster this morning, knowing that the WCML is at the other end of the road I had a little trip down to pass the time... As I got out the car... 90028 with the 4M25 Mossend Euroterminal - Daventry Int Rft As I walked up the side of the embankment it dawned on me that I may not be the first person to use this place Still the chair was handy to stand on Next up 350406 on the 1M94 Glasgow Central - Manchester Airport 185117 1M27 Windermere - Manchester Airport 390xxx with the 1M94 Glasgow Central - London Euston 66423 runs light engine on the early running 1043 Carlisle N.Y to Crewe Basford Hall 390xxx 1S48 London Euston - Glasgow Central 221xxx on the 9M53 Glasgow Central - London Euston On the way back to the car I was "engaged" in conversation by the owners of the chairs... Two gentlemen of the parish who enquired as to what I was doing. They tell me that they like to head up there with the dog and a beer or two (cases!). Apparently they like to sit and chill enjoying a beer and watching the trains. Far enough, I have been invited to join them should I wish But in all farness to them, they were very polite and didn't give me any issues. Ian
