Sort of a roasting peanut buttery smell, if I remember? (Other brands of peanut butter are available if I've got this memory wrong. lol)

For years I was convinced that motorcycles and trains were the only methods of transport that didn't make me travel sick. Then one day I was subjected to the smell of MkIII brakes (Slowing for Selby swing-bridge on a journey home from York) and realised I was wrong.

Burn your car clutch - with any luck it's made out of the same material. I did that on my Polo.

  3. Yellow paint! Why can't I find a yellow paint that looks like the Furness Rly yellow bricks? Would my buildings still look correct in brick red and black?

  4. I saw my first Colas Rail van last night (M6 Jc 35)! Could this have been anyone we know?

Jack - No, not yet. Jim - If you could do that through Carnforth without injuring yourself, I would be happy with the logs for my wood burner!

  7. I had my first sighting of a DBSO in use last night. It took me by suprise. It was about 19.25 hrs and it was between Silverdale and Carnforth. Granted I was about a mile from the lineside, but it was motoring! When I got home and checked RTT http://www.realtimetrains.co.uk/train/O19766/2015/08/19/advanced it appears that what I had seen was 5C19 ESC Barrow in Furness to Carlisle Kingmoor via Carnforth, apparently this was formed by a Cl158 timed at 201mph! Not sure if I would want a trip on that! Ian
  8. It's August and dark by 9pm! I am sure that way back when..... And I was still at school it was light till about half ten.

Could this be that a "while ago" the UK had "Double Summer Time", when the clocks went forward 2 hours instead of the 1 we suffer with these days?

We think that th eUK should be 1 hour ahead of GMT all the time, and an extra hour "daylight saving time" in the summer months!

  17. Wow. There is a desk under all that c#@p! I could use it for building models on again instead of the dinning table!

  18. The boiler is playing up! SHMBO said that we need a price to get it replaced..... Now I think either an 0-6-0 or 0-4-0 in the garden, turned into a stationary steam engine and piped to the house.... She thinks a gas boiler in the utillity room! Where is her sence of fun?

Well.... Today I dusted off the layout.... and went for a brew Looking at the railway room it needs a bit of a tidy up! So I decided to did out the embossed card and fire up the computer..... Below is an image that was kindly sent to me for my own personal use some years by the late Peter Robinson, from his own collection. It is the Furness Railway water tower that was at Lakeside station. As I have no measurements to work with, I am reduced to counting bricks in an effort to make something that looks the part, likewise I may have to be a bit creative with what the other sides will look like, and the window frames! It is worth a note that an older photo shows it with a slate roof. My dad and uncle tell me they can't remember this when they used to get sent to lakeside box for a hair cut of the veg order!!! I have spent all afternoon counting bricks and cutting the card! I have tried this before using Slaters Flemish bond embossed card but found the bricks did not line up correctly, so this time I have gone with South Eastern Finecast embossed card..... so far, so good. Something that I have noticed whilst the colour of the bricks on the Lakeside branch were the same, the order/pattern that was used seems to vary (google Haverthwaite station and google Lakeside station), so this give me a bit of play with the colours, but it will be the yellow, red and black. Now need to attempt to get into town tomorrow lunch or on Thursday for more supplies! Ian
  20. I see on a photographic web site that I look at, the ex Virgin liveried BSO was replaced by a DRS one at some point last week http://daviddockray.smugmug.com/Trains/Recent/17894198_wqsMNP#!i=4180676932&k=ps2NNWw&lb=1&s=A I also see from an update on the rail magazine web pages that one DRS DBSO is due out of the works in November, destined for the Cumbrian coast, but according to the story it will appear in Northern livery! http://www.railmagazine.com/news/fleet/2015/07/06/drs-dbso-set-for-november-return So does this mean we are to have loco hauled serves for some time? Ian
