  1. I'll send you a copy of Animal Farm.
  2. This isn't about someones Driving Standards but more the plonkers that also use the road for some other odd reasons. Earlier today we were on the outskirts of Peterborough, on the A47 there is a roundabout at Castor where the westbound A47 changes from Dual to single carriageway, we approached the roundabout from Castor intending to turn West and head for the A1, as I got nearer there was a man standing on the traffic island on the A47 in t shirt, shorts and flip flops holding a camera, as we got closer it became obvious that he was taking a picture of someone on a horse which was at the Northern junction of the roundabout. The cameraman kept getting the rider to turn the horse so he could get a better shot but the traffic was making the horse skittish. The more this went on the more frustrated the cameraman got, he was seemingly oblivious to the volume of traffic trying to use the roundabout inc many heavy lorries,no idea how long it went on for as Lady Bacon and I sped off home with this scenario in the rear view mirror. Apart from a dodgy overtaking manouvre which put a Nisan Note in the ditch and flicking the V's at a couple of old farts it was an uneventful trip back in the Merc.
  3. I don't see that there should be a real problem with them, Resin is used in so many items that are subject to heat and stress without issue. What could be a problem ?
  4. You mean 4" x 2" here.. if you mean the real size thing it's generally 95mm x 47mm as it's milled for regularity but it can vary depending on whether you're buying treated or untreated, although sold as 4x2 it's milled in metric. (It used to be 102mm x 51mm when sold as imperial) We also use a lot of CLS now for internal studwork, this comes out at 90mm x 40mm for the 4x2 equivalent.
  5. That would make them a revenue stream rather than a deterent. Back on topic.
  6. I've seen a similar filler but they used Bicarb of soda instead of talc. Unless you're using up supplies of "Brut" or "Hai karate" talc. . .
  7. I'm not picking on you specifically TotP but I've seen and heard this many times. In a nutshell we live in a country where if you have the means you can purchase whatever you want to do any job you want. If this means buying a 4x4 car and using it to do journeys that don't require the 4x4 part then what does it matter ? I have to say that I've looked at a range Rover before as I quite like the spec you get with them but ended up with a Merc C Class, why should I not be allowed to purchase the RR if I wanted to even though it wouldn't ever go "Off Road". On the occasional time the subject has come up in conversation, a few questions soon elicit the real reason why some people are against others having what they want and sadly safety is not it.
  8. As most heat loss is through the roof with the walls coming a close second, the floor can be less. As an example in the last bungalow we had 300mm of wool in the ceiling (which would be something like 150mm of Celotex/dense foam), 100mm wool in the cavity (50mm foam) whereas in the floor it was 50mm Celotex. There are other things taken into consideration in the calculation such as what blocks but you get the idea. What you can look at for the floor which is a lot cheaper is polystyrene (Minimum 50mm) http://www.wickes.co.uk/Wickes-50mm-General-Purpose-Polystyrene-1200x2400mm/p/210824 Have a shop around and see what you can find, remember it's just like Celotex, waste nothing by adding all the small bits together. One tip is to put a bit of batten (offcuts and split bits) along the sides of the joists at the bottom as this stops the insulation from dropping through which it can do as floors flex.
  9. The seconds are missing the foil, but for a shed it won't make too much difference there's something like a £140 saving there which is quite a bit. At present I'm building a brick clad timber frame around a swimming pool, it has 100mm celotex between the studs and 25mm all over and around here the cheapest price is from Wickes of all places. I spend upwards of £50,000 a year in the merchants but I still check around for prices. Can't afford not to.
  10. I actually thought Coach's driving might be a bit more like this.....
  11. But you'd never get to where you wanted to go ?
  12. Interesting, were you tacking or at full sail ?
  13. Just thought I'd edit it for you.
  14. I'd get the Tardis checked it took you back to the same point twice.
  15. I find that the majority of road users will move out of the way safely when they hear and see "Blues and Two's" It's when they realise they're on a Nissan Cabstar towing a Kubota digger that the fun starts. . Can't see the problem myself,
  16. A friend in Frankfurt would ask if it was "light or dark red" it matters apparently.
  17. This thread will soon be as old as my Cabstar (18 years) and with just as many holes in it. I work on the basis that every driver on the road is a blind deaf idiot who is on the phone, so far it's worked well for me and with the A1 at the end of our road I actually see quite a few drivers that fit the description well.
  18. Same at Sandy, although moving to the diesel era 47's were Duffs, 31's were Brians ( refering to Brian the snail from "The Magic Roundabout") and the cravens were Fart carts
  19. An ex Midland (steam) driver friend refers to them as "Jocko's"
  20. Picking up on those 2 towns, St Neots is now the largest town in Cambridgeshire and set to grow even bigger with a further 3700 houses planned for East of the ECML (next to Loves farm) Population is over the 40,000 mark and set to rise to something like 60,000. Camborne is approaching 10,000. When the B&C closed Sandy pop was 5,000 but is now 13,000, it is unlikely to have any major further expansion as it's constrained by the A1,ECML & River, Biggleswade is being expanded (Kings Reach) and is 18,000 with 25,000-30,000 planned. With the straight line strategy it ignores the topography of a large escarpment (Everton) in the way which is why the original B&C went via Potton to skirt around it. There's also the issue of no towns or population to actually use it.
  21. It's off topic I know, but my fathers attitude was very simple. When you are C/E on a 250,000 ton tanker en route from the gulf to Europort and the bathtubs with sheets get in the way in the channel, they must understand that you can't manouvre so therefore if they are run down they only have themselves to blame. I do remember being on the bridge (sea trials) and even with radar there was an awful lot you couldn't see especially when running with no load and 70 - 100' out of the water.
  22. I like it when on the approach to Black cat roundabout the lanes are defined as right hand = right turn (Bedford Bypass) and left lane= Southbound A1, always being in the left lane as I head South it tends to move faster than the right so people will pull out to undertake and then try and squeeze back in at the roundabout. Sometimes when I've passed cars have pulled out not seeing that I'm towing the digger, makes great entertainment in the mirrors Black Cat roundabout has just undergone an "upgrade", it's quite amusing as those that used to undertake and then push in on the roundabout have found themselves in the Southbound lane with kerbs stopping them pushing in. Strangely enough the slow speed accident rate has gone down too as there are fewer shunts when traffic avoided the push ins.
  23. Good luck there, I was going to invoice as it's his fault I'm re-building "Sandy" "Nothing from a dry well" was the reply
