Airfix kits used in Thunderbirds
chris p bacon replied to DavidB-AU's topic in Modelling musings & miscellany
I'm sure I remember reading that Gerry Anderson didn't like the character 'John' so put him on TB5 as there was little dialogue or filming. -
If we're doing Top Trumps....I'm in The Borders...it's a winning hand as 23% of the properties in the village are either airbnb or holiday homes and the Scottish governments ability to shoot themselves in the foot over house valuations and fixed price /offers over has meant young people are unable to obtain mortgages, but this isn't the thread for it.

Third party inkjet cartridges
chris p bacon replied to wasdavetheroad's topic in Card structure modelling forum
There are lots available, the last I purchased came from ebay and I paid just over a fiver. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/294024453473 I've also not had the issue of not being recognised. I mix the printing between 'Draft' to save on ink and 'Fine' for better quality, I've not had a problem with either and the quality on Fine is very good. -
Running a car which doesn't comply more than likely puts you in the lower wage bracket and I'd say at a guess purchasing another, or second car is either impossible or isn't an easy option. As you are unaffected and therefore don't live in the London boroughs I'd say that you weren't really capable of commenting as the cost of living 154 miles from the capital is substantially different. Quite what this has to do with Jokes I've no idea, but that's the problem when posters make 'political' comments.

Third party inkjet cartridges
chris p bacon replied to wasdavetheroad's topic in Card structure modelling forum
I have a Canon printer which is used for personal, work and society business so takes quite a hammering. I did a trial a few years ago between 'Genuine' and 'Non genuine' ink counting the sheets printed ( a lot of printing is much the same) there was little difference in the amount of sheets the inks would print and the difference was imperceptible. The non genuine are £5.24 a full set and the genuine is currently £38*. Looking through past purchases for the last 3 years I have used just under £37 in ink rather than £260+. It could be argued that the genuine is ever so slightly better, but I doubt it's that much better. *- £38 is a current offer, other priced quoted are £45-55. -
Which part of was difficult to understand? ULEZ is a contentious subject for a lot of people, posters putting a political spin on what is supposed to be 'Jokes' thread doesn't help anyone.

Aaaah The Grauniad, my mistake, I forgot that left wing politics is fine rather than no politics 🙄

Considering Richmond is a Lib Dem council I don't think your political post works.

The Highway Code actually has both as advice but the preferred is to leave the vehicle and get to a place of safety (behind the barrier) Rule 277 If your vehicle develops a problem, leave the carriageway at the next exit or pull into a service area if possible (see Rule 275 for places of relative safety). If you cannot, you should Go left move into the left lane pull into an emergency area or onto a hard shoulder if you can stop as far to the left as possible, leaving space to exit your vehicle and with your wheels turned to the left if you can, stop just beyond an emergency telephone switch your hazard warning lights on if it’s dark or visibility is poor, use sidelights. Get safe exit your vehicle by the side furthest from traffic, if it is safe and possible to do so, and ensure passengers do the same If you can’t get your vehicle to the left lane or a place of relative safety (see Rule 275), and exit your vehicle safely to get well away from it and moving traffic, you should stay in your vehicle keep your seat belts and hazard warning lights on call 999 immediately and ask for the police. Alternatively, press your SOS button if your vehicle has one and ask for the police. put on high-visibility clothing if you have it and it is within easy reach get behind a safety barrier where there is one, but be aware of any unseen hazards such as sudden drops, uneven ground or debris DO NOT stand in a place where your vehicle could be forced into you if moving traffic collides with it DO NOT return to your vehicle even if it’s raining, cold or dark remain alert and aware of vehicles or debris coming towards you keep passengers away from the carriageway and children under control DO NOT attempt repairs on your vehicle DO NOT place a warning triangle on the carriageway animals MUST be kept in the vehicle or, in an emergency, under control on the verge. Jason's Printer Thread
chris p bacon replied to JCL's topic in 3D Printing, Laser Cutting, CAD & CNC
Evening Ray. My loo comment was just an offhand quip as I know @JCL rather well and he has some disturbing habits... I'd say that putting it in the sewage wasn't really the best thing to do as the treatment plants are set up to deal with organic waste rather than chemical. Jason only pops in here occasionally so it might take a while to get a reply. I don't have a resin printer I have a PLA one so the issue of waste water isn't something I've had to deal with. .....Thinking about it @MikeTrice might have a suggestion as I know Mike uses a resin printer. -

Could some of the personal and equipment move from the Southern end to Birmingham in the future to increase progress?
-
I can't decide if that is either the most ridiculous or funny thing I've read in ages. It isn't difficult to make a near accurate model, I'd actually say it's harder to produce an inaccurate one when help has been offered.

Model Railway .stl file resources?
chris p bacon replied to Overexposed's topic in 3D Printing, Laser Cutting, CAD & CNC
If someone buys something online, they would not unreasonably expect to own it and to do what they want with it. You would be unable to put any restriction on its use which would be enforceable. In the same way that up to now you've wanted someone else to print your stl's with no recourse for how inaccurate they are and don't want to deal with any problems. And now you want to sell the same inaccurate 'designs' but want someone else to come up with an idea of how to do it but still retain control. I've seen a couple of your 'designs' in the flesh and they're terrible, a generic shape to the body that bore no resemblance to the prototype and wildy inaccurate details. To get the numbers you've got you've just resized without a thought as to wall thickness. Just delete it all and move on. -

That's probably more to do with the fact that no-one wants to stop anywhere in the vicinity of Luton..
