  2. Unrecognised knock on the door a few hours ago. Smiling man from DHL hands me a box with "loaded at Birmingham fulfillment centre" printed on the label. Bit of an unexpected surprise when I opened the box (No Micheal Miles too be seen). Shortly to be converted back to Darlington Development Unit condition. Nice that these early HAA's have been modelled with solid braked wheels as opposed to wheels with the detachable friction surfaces. Internal rivet detail inside the body is smashing and nice touch with the speed rating square still visible under the freshly painted HAA patch. Thanks to the boys from the Emerald Isle. Now where's me Guinness frother. P.s. The coupling stretcher springs are perfect for another project I have in mind. If I'd only known... could have saved me an age trawling the interweb manufacturers.
  3. Captain Mainwaring mode fully engaged. "I wondered how long it would take you to spot that". Captain Mainwaring mode OFF. OOOooooops!
  4. You are excused. Porcy's Mk1 rivet embosser knocked up about 50 years ago from an old watch gear wheel (I dropped the watch in a P.E. lesson) and some ABS channel. (All that was available back then). It still does a reasonable job but has been superseded by infinitely more suitable gadgets from the 21st century. You could try googling "ponce wheel" for the gadget underneath. This is what Porcy's Mk1 rivet embosser manages. Theis are pretty good. Meant for embossing recessed rivets but I find it just as effective at producing raised fixings. Then there's always Rosie: and finally my favourite. The George Watts rivet press that produces rivets with infinitely adjustable pitch and depth with results like this. hth, P
  5. Aye! Been there, dun that. Trouble (with me) is, "things" always get in the way... and then, quite often my fingers don't always respond to commands sent from the head, and regularly respond at unexpected times when no signals are being sent... it makes workbench life quite entertaining. 😮
  6. Oh no! Sounds like that tricky Micky Simpson will be smuggling a cree full of stottie cyeks out of the north east in times of great national emergency. If you ask him nicely, he may bring along some Fentimans ginger beer and a few bags of Hoggets pickled onion crisps.
  7. Wayyyyy too organised! The disorder to my immediate right. P (firm advocate in chaos theory).
  8. Unfortunately, I think there's far too much other "stuff" going on at home & in the rest of the world for the broadsheets to give many column inches to the unsavory goings on at planet Hornby. Hornby is maybe breathing a bit of a sigh of relief thinking that now is a good time to eat humble pie, as "it's a good day (time) to bury bad news". P
  9. Nowt to do with with realistic looking moddel railways: First saw him fly at RNAS Culdrose airshow then 18 years later, felt pretty special to witness him shoot the rapids at Winston.
  10. I bet they lived too a ripe old age.
  11. "Oh Flip! Never mind the hat, I'm wearing the wrong moustache".
  12. Only right. Anyway they were out again when I was in my local branch but 20 minutes ago. Their bakery products sell out almost immediately.
  13. Yep! he should have toed the line. Seems like he was a bit of a brogue. His wife put him in his lace. ... and don't call me ...
  14. Looks like he over stepped a mark. His wife must have had no sole.
  15. Inspired by D350? https://flic.kr/p/LNdo76 You just need a USAF Super Sabre and some tomato's now. https://www.thenorthernecho.co.uk/history/18236821.derailed-tomato-train-rescue-newton-aycliffe-disturbed-us-fighter-jet-plunged-field-nearby/
  16. Aye, the cashier in my local Co-op struggles with the kettle. Nice buns though.
