  1. ... looks like the original may have been well under exposed and with transparency film not having the exposure latitude of B & W, the highlights have started to blow well before shadow detail has begun to resolve. Digitising has probably emphasized the contrast giving further colour shifts.
  2. I like how the tender is a different shade of green to the locomotive. and in 1975 there was this. Rail 150 August 26-31 1975 Steam Up. NER 901 Class, No 910. Loco part of the National Collection. by Mike Hutton, on Flickr
  3. I do hope Percy showed the newbie a clean pair of heels.
  4. Maybe this is where Bachmann got it's paint samples from. Due deference to historical accuracy and all that.
  5. Going to prove the point that manufacturers haven't got much hope of getting it right and no matter how much debate, we will never be sure if colour & shade will be correct. When I was a working photographer back in the days of film: if I was was working outside, away from a studio where lighting and colour temperature could be, to a certain degree controlled, one of my main tools (if time allowed) was a Minolta Color Temperature meter, the readings from which was used to select the colour temp, of film stock to use. You would be amazed at the variation in colour rendition, even on a bright but overcast day. Although digital has afforded us way greater dynamic range, I wonder how many of the "comparison" images up thread were taken following a simple white balance or 18% grey determination or just taken with the camera on auto settings? P
  6. I'll just throw this into the mix. Photos taken within a few weeks of each other.
  7. Predominantly cellulose.
  8. Aye! Them curtains definitely need a good washing. (Or a good poss tubbing back in those days). Mr Tiff should be a bit more choosy of his residents. https://goo.gl/maps/ipJZUyReNuxMbKdC8
  9. In a Marilyn Monroe lookalike sort of way?
  10. It was even worse if you were sat on the lav. Stuff that jumped out of the pot had to be seen to be believed. https://flic.kr/p/M296SR
  11. Nice buffers. Unlike the Heljan model.
  12. Just business/financial aspect. Nothing on the P.R. front. 😉
  13. When/if? the Hornby 2MT turns up, I'm waiting to see if any of the yoochoob reviewers/influenzas dare to use the collocation "eagerly anticipated"???
  14. Updated Apple spell checker strikes again?
  15. Well; "apparently" there are confirmed reports of aliens arriving in Nevada this week so maybe the 2MT will not be far behind them. I'm not sure if "apparently" refers to "confirmed reports" or "real aliens"? Maybe "Comet" models to a 2MT.
  16. Highly knowledgeable reply. You the seller then? 😉
  17. I'm up for it. Only for sentimental value though. My maternal grandfatha worked at Armstrongs and turned the first 16" gun barrel manufactured. Dang! There goes the profit from my trout.
  18. Nah. I'm to old to have birthdays now. (once you've seen on you've seen them all syndrome) Bought from a second hand stall at an exhibition. Then a collector just kept upping an offer to buy them. The collector couldn't quite grasp why a modeller needs more than one item. He tried giving me a "good stiff talking to" when I showed him one of the new purchases floating about in a jar of paint stripper. Lets just say I could have bought another eight trout (if available) with what he was offering me for just one.
  19. Tenner a pop if you know where to look (tis a secret). This one actually cost me a positive fiscal amount. Perfect for something that needed to go under the scalpel. And there's a fella around these parts who recently bought half a dozen from ebay at a very reasonable cost then proceeded to give three of them away to pals. Nowt fishy about that deal.
