  1. Eight Dollar usually has three trains on the tracks as well as a few boxcars in the industry stubs. Up until now two out of the three trains would normally be seen making their way around the layout but things are changing. Not only the conversion to DCC but a second tunnel is taking shape, allowing a third train to run simultaneously.
  2. Another small selection of layout shots for the time being. Come and see it at Ally Pally in March. Dave.
  3. The Lane has gained a new staff walkway courtesy of Torrilaser.com whom I found at Warley this year. As the local Bus Strike continues, so the the queue gets longer at the stop. The bridge over the Elbow Lane approaches is destined never to have a bus on it, strike or not! Dave.
  4. Despite their valiant efforts, the staff at Elbow Lane just don't seem to be making much of a difference to the rubbish people drop.
  5. Love this layout. It inspired me to built a small layout of my own. Much though I love it, it wouldn't have held enough interest for me fitted into the I have at home to replicate the idea. Sorry. So, along with some inspiration from another little layout seen at Lydd Rail a couple of years back, I built Elbow Lane. So. Thanks for building Melangoose. Will say hello on Sunday. Dave.
  6. A couple more shots of Eight Dollar. The two area where there is a 'cliff' at the back will be re-modelled and a third line will pass into/out of tunnel mouths to enable a third complete circuit. This will enable three trains to circle at the same time as well as switching in the local sidings. Dave.
  7. As page 1 is a long time ago, here are a few basic layout facts: Track is hand built using Bullhead rail, wooden sleepers, Exactoscale plastic chairs and a gauge of 16.2mm. 00-SF. Track was mostly build on Templot Templates laid in-situ on underlay. Ballast used was Exactoscale dark grey/brown. DCC traction was used from the start, which was 2008. It has appeared a few shows around the Southeast but, like many has lain dormant for a while. Its last outing being Basingstoke 2018. Dave.
  8. Some Layout History. Design started in 2005 and boards form an Octagonal shape having its extremities at 16' diameter. The 'outside (public)' has three tracks and some sidings on a constant radius. Inside the background is a 'fiddleyard' of three complete circles. Trains enter and/or leave the fiddleyard via crossovers under the hill behind the trestle. Development was slow and bare boards appeared at our own show in 2006. Picture 1. The layout has been exhibited a few times in the South East but because of its shape & size, it doesn't get that many invitations. Currently it uses DC but will be converted to DCC during the next year in readiness for Warley 2023. Because of clubroom space demands, it lives in a member's garage meaning we are currently unable to set it up complete other than at a Show. Here are some early photos.
  9. The wireless enabled throttles have batteries for wireless operation, but can also be plugged into the DCC sockets if the batteries run out. Dave.
  10. I agree with Matt C. Best thing I have found for the job and cheap. Dust everything whilst gently blowing the offending must away from the layout. Dave.
  11. A US based layout by Carshalton & Sutton MRC. It's a long time since Eight Dollar Canyon appeared here to this is by way of a re-introduction. Unusually, it's a circular layout of 16' diameter currently using DC for power. By the time we get to Warley it will be a DCC layout. We've just completed a weekend at The Great British Model Railway Show at Gaydon. Here's an overview of the layout to give you an idea of what to expect. Dave www.csmrc.co.uk
  12. We have received and accepted an invitation to exhibit at Ally Pally in 2023. So looking forward to it. Dave Carshalton & Sutton MRC www.csmrc.co.uk
  13. I will be re-posting some of the missing pictures over the next few days. Sorry if you have seen them before.
  14. After 2.5 years in hibernation, Falcon Road is about to resurface. Lots of missing pictures now, I'm afraid, thanks to the RMweb crash. I've tried re-posting some but it's such a long winded job, I gave up. I will be posting updates to its condition etc. in the next few days along with a few photos to whet you appetites. Here's one for now.
  15. Richard. I can't see that American roundy round layout that was there. Dave.
  16. I personally would not use a file. I prefer to use a coffee stirrer with cloth wrapped around also wet with cleaner. Dave.
  17. I found the Model Railroad Hobby mag article on line a few weeks back and was most impressed. It's also mentioned in the above video. Straight away I went out and got the WD40 Contact Cleaner from Screwfix. I had only just cleaned the track on my own DCC layout with my favourite hard rubber block. It was clean! I then wiped it with a non-lint rag soaked with the WD stuff. Wow! More dirt removed and dry before you know it. It then ran a whole weekend trouble free. Then used the same method on a busy Club DCC layout prior to a show. No trouble whatsoever and still clean when we returned it the our Clubroom. I certainly won't be using any other method from now on. Dave.
  18. I haven't seen this mentioned yet on here and less than a week to go. Carshalton & Sutton MRC are taking 'Eight Dollar Canyon' along for a rare appearance. Came and say hello. Plenty of trains running round and even more motive power. Dave.
  19. Try these. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/234654964737?hash=item36a2869c01:g:-h8AAOSwnVVi888E&amdata=enc%3AAQAHAAAA4L5UA4G2rqpBlUZjlM2JvtwwwgmEAP1RR8rwNP2PumAvx2nSGcbZrPnMs6Y7btUef%2Bgn1DnjM7q3Y5gxGTwpoHbSKL5PSbJvN1YACtcKo9A6%2FAT1QFb1NZ9m%2BBzB2YynQbTUbag12CF8rX6t70V%2FxV5AA6iIi3B31QI4PLnx%2FoRaADMUyh3nUGDEqyarzCzzedmVsLH1XoV0yzeIdL4wV%2FKRrcYbvE6pFwSrgz5WXbl91l%2FKb390LsZa%2F%2FREEqOEJpbDYXwE56hi2lM1PiJoJVzepHygFlJ6wPaVJLFYzwYW|tkp%3ABk9SR5Cf_an_YA The plastic base will slide up the post, so that you can adjust the height. I have used them. Dave
