  1. Thanks for the 87 photos, my etches arrived today so time to crack on, I assume that you flattened off the old screen lining .and having studied various photos I note that the cab grill drops too far down tor wards the top of the screens and the cab roof needs the edges rounding off very slightly. I made these changes as an experiment on a spare 87 body I have when practicing making glazing with perspect /acetate sheet the result was good but no where near as good as the new etching.
  2. Just to divert a bit , has anyone sampled the shawplan class 87 screen frames and glazing ? And if so have any finished photos .
  3. Hi , the current edition of railway modeller has drawings in 4mm of the class 81, plus the peco catenary guide.
  4. Interesting 4th photo of the 81 in corporate blue but still retaining what appears to be the original white cab roof.
  5. Ordering and delivery always very good, some hidden gems on their website , Bachmann class 47's in res/intercity/rail freight distribution in weathered condition, a rails special I guess, but could well be factory specials either way the one I purchased is very nice, and put to bed any fears that I had over the web photo not being representative of what you get.Obviously priced a bit more than the non weathered models our friends in Liverpool sell.
  6. Shame a good model appears to have been let down by such poor paint control, especially when the 52's and 22's were so good, I will definitely hold onto my blue Lima locos somewhat longer. It would be nice to see a comment from the chaps at Dapol if only to salvage some reputation , and have some compassion towards their client base.
  7. I guess pigs might fly , but once cross rail is up and running and gwr electrification is in place there is no reason not to run a Norwich Bristol service .
  8. A mere thought ...it rapido don't produce any mk3's....doesn't that then encourage railway modelling !!!

    EBay madness

gbp 265 for an 00 guage prototype , paint work is good looks like a new chassis.....but totally wrecked by wrong sized door Windows , makes the model look weird ... But good luck to the seller
  11. Excellent news...and about time to... Just as I am finishing off my Genesis cut and shut....but it will give me a year or so to respray some Mk3's.
  12. Andy , FGAs are really nice , are the raised coupling ends made from plasticard with the full length of the wagon retained ? I am in the process of making up a rake and playing around with card templates to get the look right for the end of each rake.
  13. As an 00 gauge modeller very envious, hopefully for you n gauge chaps Dapol will see sense and do runs of existing mk3,s in the reverse blue/grey.
  14. Nicely put Clive ....are your impersonations of Ken and Pete up to scratch as well !!
  15. Baby deltic , do you recall the last days of the 309's when the evening rush hours units carried a mini buffet / bar in one carriage , and it appeared to be like a close nit pub with tabs being run up and card schools no doubt all being settled at claction, and not for the feint hearted non smokers as you had to hold your breath getting through the carriage.. And that was when commuting was so much more sociable.
  16. Interesting debate, and my money would be on David's being the better of the two....however if I was a school master I would bang heads together and get one of them to produce a 74 !!! To complement rather than compete !!
  17. Does look good , but all the same its niche product for a niche client and a niche market , but good on Bachmann if LT have funded it ,even if it is a touch pricey.and may have a better shelf life than the Heljan LT locos which could be white elephants for retailers.
  18. Looks good Neil , have faith with the genesis brake tender kits, as they could well be the easiest kits you ever build !!!
  19. Best keep the original Hornby size, then you can use southern fine cast flush glazing which really improves the face of the model.and looks okay. You can of course also use the craftsman kit for the roof profile.
  20. Hi are you looking to modify the windscreens ? As I have always felt that was one of the issues that lets down the lima model.
  21. Carl , looks good , with n guage you really show how space can be used to your advantage , I like your early emu,s , I am sure that now years have moved on you probably have the skills to strip down and re paint and they won,t look out of place, I have enjoyed your thread ,
  22. Looks a good challenge, even compared to the genesis kit. And of course the wolfs project was outstanding. Have you got some lima bogies ? Or are the railroad ones now the same , as the early Hornby ones were awful.
  23. Great pictures and memories, does anyone have photos of the maldon branch ? I will show my age ... Maybe when I was 4 or 5 I recall watching a class 15 shunting wagons across the causeway main road from market hill to hey bridge.
  24. One for dave Scott, although it's the marmite approach, you can't go wrong with a lima 73 , ok the drive system. Is not to everyone's liking but the power to weight ratio is great and it will pull almost any think behind it, and I have yet to find one that is not a brilliant slow runner.
