  1. Has anyone tried using the transfers currently available on a well known auction site ? To create a Pullman kitchen car ? If so any tips , I do note that transfers is a term open to interpretation as they are adhesive backed prints as opposed to water slide or acrylic prints.
  2. Great news.... time to dish out the wish list....class 89 , Hst prototype, improved 86 or at at least one in res livery for starters.
  3. The upside of a fairly basic kit such as the dvt.... with no instructions, is that it's a great way to experiment and enhance modelling skills , weither it be glues, soldering, fillers, glazing and painting and overall research with google.
  4. A good primer is Halfords grey, it dries quickly and smoothly and is a good base for further painting.
  5. Get yourself a good quality isopon filler, loads of patience and enjoy , it will be a challenge and google is a great source of seeing what they ought to look like.... I seem to recall that cab moulding is quite good, but the body questionable, it may test your patience and common sense is always the override to any MTK paperwork!
  6. Many thanks to all who replied, excellent photos, covers exactly what is needed...another MTK saga.
  7. I have seen photos of cravens class 105's being allocated to express mail/ parcels use and branded appropriately , my question is was the seating removed in the units as part of this exercise?
  8. How about a vote for some real old timers....dublo metro vick, wrenn 20, and like others the airfix 31 can scrub up well, and limas best in the 73 and Hst.
  9. Great thread, you can't go wrong with flush glazing the 31, and outlining the cab hand rails and painting over the yellow below the buffer beams... and then grabbing another body shell and converting to a 31/0 skinhead.
  10. Mmm I thought this tread was a photo shop wind-up , the offending loco was a Bow (by the Olympic stadium ), this morning...I still haven't changed my mind.....guess it will take some getting used to.

    JLTRT

As an 00 gauge modeller on the sidelines, and having followed 0 gauge with an element of envy, its a shame that jltrt has gone down as I'm sure PW must be given credit for bringing an up to date range of kits, and encouraging new recruits into 0 gauge.
  12. Send Brian an sae with payment for your order..works a treat for all concerned.
  13. Mmmm if the pc and veggie brigade have their full control by then we won't even be able to tap cattle as a source of methane !
  14. Hi Clive..knowing your joy with all things class 309.. I thought I would share with you my slightly less ambitious model so far, all being down to keeping costs down, it needs some additional boxes on the power/ driving unit and front screens need to be slightly smaller and black lined. The base coaches are replica (Manufactured by Bachmann some years back I guess) I found a set of 4 at a toy fair by pure luck as I needed commonwealth bogies and was hoping to avoid a Hornby/replica or Bachmann combo. The cabs came off flea bay nicely done in resin..for some odd reason the chap making them sold them singly rather than in pairs, but they were considerably cheaper than the classy product from Pete Harvey . The power unit is a tenshido spud ,my mate mr dremel helped in trimming off the axle ends so that I could marry it up to a replica bogie frame, and probably the more expensive part of the model was the marklin pantograph. The cab glazing is my old favourite 1.5mm perspect sheet.
  15. Hi , going back to the original question from August do these power bogies have a specific lubrication point ?
  16. If j4375 was taken in mid summer It might be the late pm service that always included a sorting/ posting facility ,as I recall from my early commuting days that you could post letters at Liverpool st in a letter box on the side of the coach, the service sometimes had up to 14 coaches... not too sure from the photo is ex Norwich or Liverpool st
  17. Mmm have Bachmann not heard of market research, as much that I would like the blue grey pullman and I guess some others...the best part of 1k is a lot of dosh.
  18. Nail varnish remover may work , but as others have cautioned it might impact the underlying matey.
  19. Hi Richie, sounds a good project, Heljan 86's do appear a bit thin on the ground, however Hornby 86 are always around and scrub up well with flush glazing and a change of pantograph, and twin power bogies, Shawplan make a good screen etch for the Lima 87, and depending on your ambitions look better with Hornby class 90 bogies , or cut down a 90 chasis for the 87 body .
  20. The flushglaze lacks the distinct seam that the rtr model has , I would suggest sticking with the original offering.
  21. Thanks all for the 81 discussion and apologies to others if the original thread has been side tracked,I agree that the trix/lillput was slightly ahead of its time in respect of the bogie mouldings and the details on the wheels, and glazing, and remains a good looking model.
  22. If it helps there is an excellent 60 min utube film of the canton and oak common cranes re railing a class 37, I haven't watched it for some time ,but I think that it does capture the make up of a brakedown train.
  23. Do the al1 (class 81) electric locos fall into the collectible category? As current prices seem somewhat wild.
  24. Jeff...don't put put night driving down to your age .....it's the chronic state of uk road markings which are outright dangerous in comparison to the continent!
