Thanks for looking it up Oz. I think your research does show that Hornby have not yet produced a single chimney, late BR Collett tender version. Am I wrong in thinking this would actually be the most popular version? It would need to be a better green than they have in the Hall which still looks too waxy for me.

We'll pricing getting a bit beyond me, but I just wish we could have a bulk standard, single chimney, Collett tender, BR green version

Wow! Every now and then you press a new button on RMWeb and a new world opens up. I clicked on the Shenston Road header at the top of the page and have literally been blown away by this layout. The quality is truly superb. With several pictures you have to sit back and say is that really a model? I think also, it takes me back to my early days of interest in railways. I was never a number collector but was always on lookout for railways and trains. I'm visualising the drive from Middlesborough to Redcar with chemical and steelworks and this just takes me right back there. Glimpses through the buildings and advertising hoardings of trains. I'm going to have another close look at this layout tonight I do like the large buildings at the back of the station. Can you tell me the source of these. I particularly like the steel framed structures at the Wolverhampton end of the station . Again thanks for posting.

I'd take it back Colin. Mine runs perfectly smoothly from a crawl. So the behaviour yours is exhibiting is not typical. Just watch they are not sold out before you get to return it. Good luck!

Actually my Olton Hall didn't. Looks like the Radial is coming in at £99.95 . Seems reasonable to me for something that must have a fairly low slung motor and custom chassis. Not one for me but definitely support Oxford Rail all the way if it brings out more like it. Again it's all about value for money. I can see how a bespoke model like this would cost that much. Nor far off a Bachmann E4 at £93 discounted.

Isn't that because Bachmann restrict the discount retailers can give to 15% for new models for a period, I can't quite remember 12 weeks?so price naturally gravitates to 15% discounted rate which I assume is £93

I thought Hattons would stick to the price on this one. I think it was the year after range announcements where they did say the price was an indication and may vary when delivered. I've now cancelled my LB&SCR one anyway. I was going to start a collection of pre grouping locos,and this would have joined my L&Y liveried tank , but I'm not prepared to pay ever larger amounts of money for models I will seldom use. Gone for a 64xx though at £69.95. I do think that's reasonable value.

Well never say never. And some items are still relatively ok. Quite fancy a new 64xx tank, but at £69.95 discounted, that's not bad. Ironically the same price as the Autocoach! But purchases of wagons have ceased and I was fortunate to get my Portholes at the introductory price, so nothing new needed there. The auto coach is definitely shelved I fancied both the blood and custard and maroon ones but not at that price. Suspect it maybe the same price for forthcoming DBSO. I need one so will be forced to buy , but only one, not both blue grey and Scotrail versions. Suspect others will be reacting to these prices the same way.

I liked the stately GNER livery. Never really liked East Coast Trains which I always thought looked cheap, except for their specially decorated 91s and DVTs which was bringing me round to the livery as a blank canvas. But I have to say pretty impressed with this one. Looks good to me. Will the IEP trains appear in this livery too?

I think it's now clear. All Hornby did was to make an announcement as a spoiler to Bachmanns news. It certainly got people talking about Hornby. I suppose they have been successfully. I still don't view it as gentlemanly conduct .

£68.95 for plastic mouldings, because at the end of the day that's what they are, basic plastic mouldings with a bit of assembly . Well scratch that one off the list. I fear for the DBSOs now

Or get Oxfordrail to model them. What's needed is a bit of competition here. I appreciate that it would cost at least £59 to assemble and paint an auto coach if I bought a kit .However these are injection mouldings put together in bulk. There maybe separately fitted parts , and I'm sure there will be a degree of finesse but what we are suffering from is Kaders decision to get more profit from its UK subsidiary. If Oxfordrail can bring out 4 wheel trucks at £8.95 instead of Bachmanns £12.95, let's encourage them to get into more model railways.

Well Hornby certainly stolen the froth on Bachmann with 11 pages on this thread so far with 15 over on Bachmann speculation thread that has been running for about a month I think. As I said at the start I think people are a little jaded with Bachmann with large price increases and very long gestation periods on new models . I think the market is swinging back in Hornbys favour at the moment. I'll bet Bachmann aren't Manufacturer of the Year this year in the poll

And the decision to announce it, was probably his mistake!

Wish I shared your confidence. Remember this is the company that releases HST power cars without intermediate trailers and vice versa. Aren't the Hornby Maunsells suitable rolling stock? They may not be in this years catalogue but I'm sure you can still get them. The market was flooded with them not so long ago. I'm sure they could make a reappearance in the 2016 catalogue

I really doubt Bachmann do more than basic research before announcing models, and I cite the Stanier 2-6-0 as evidence of this. I appreciate Bachmann probably have already CADs from developing there n gauge version but the reality is that unless they accelerate development Hornby must steel a march here if their model appears in 2016. There is a big assumption that Bachmann are doing an unrebuilt MN . But if they are, and even if the catalogues are already printed, I'd pull the plug and go and do something else instead. In the past I'd say the Bachmann one might be less expensive but their last price increases probably mean they lost this advantage However best to wait until Monday. It maybe that Hornby have just announced the MN to steel some publicity from Bachmann ahead of their announcement on Monday which may or may not include an MN. It's not usual Bachmann territory

And the Hattons King Class. Seems petty behaviour from such a big company

I noticed there was no price though. I fear the worst. Bachmann have to learn that these are a discretionary spend . If I think it's value for money I'll pay for it. If I think I'm being fleeced I won't. Sorry but £19.95 is too much for these wagons .

Most traders had ample stocks at Model Rail Scotland today. Price around £95-£104. Tempted but it really is way out of region for me. Was looking for Rood Ashton Hall which strangely, by comparison there were only one or two.
