  1. I had never seen that before, and actually never knew about the incident......maybe I should have sent £10? But on a serious note I understand the engine driver sustained serious injuries during the effort to stop the runaway power surge, under those circumstances the Loco really doesn’t matter does it.
  2. Not a joke, I saw a clip on Mrs BB’s farcebook last year a woman filling a cardboard box with a bin bag as a liner (at least she realised cardboard would not hold petrol!) while it was in the boot of her American people carrier. Made me cringe as I thought “what if she has her kids in the back as well”
  3. Crowd funding....hmmm.....I still haven’t recovered from when I was about eight and Blue Peter (the programme) asked for donations for the rebuilding of the Blue Peter locomotive, I saved and sent off my £5 for the restoration and received a certificate saying I had a “piece of it”.......now what’s happened? Nothing, nada.... Grumpy and sulking...who me?
  4. We had some interesting years when our manager would announce at the beginning of March that we need to put together a “shopping list” to be handed to the buyers before the end of March......or our budget for the next year would be cut, this is after all bloody year asking/begging for bits of equipment needed to do the job. Best year of all was about 1980 odd, I put together a list of Hasselblad equipment (all the department had was old Mamiya TLRs and Plate/sheet film cameras) the total back then came to about £70K.....we literally cleaned out Hasselbald U.K. and became best buddies with their sales manager
  5. The thing that puzzled me when that drawing was first released is the red areas in each picture seem to be different parts of the box section, diagram 1 appears to highlight the damper bracket support section of the component, where as diagram 2 appears to highlight what I take to be the lifting pad area.....which is the opposite end.
  6. Certainly hope so, that is basic suspension geometry, make sure the damper has a stroke which is slightly more than the maximum working moment of the design. If they got that wrong no wonder the seats are so bad as well (JMO of course)
  7. Yes I understand which bit is what, which is why I stated it looked to be the section of the box section (which I circled in red) to which the damper bracket is bolted. It was a quick few seconds shown on TV but it certainly was not the damper bracket that was shown to have a fault, it appeared to be the other end of the box section of which one end is the lifting pad and the other the attachment point for the damper bracket.
  8. Yes they would, no problem.....all the important bits have to be sealed (for obvious reasons), the limiting factor would be as we used to call it when wade testing the “floater” factor
  9. Upon my Uncles passing the procession passed by the factory and his work mates turned out to pay their respects.....very touching.
  10. It looked to be the part of the box section to which the yaw damper is bolted, not at the lifting pad end.
  11. It looked to be the body part above (to which the bracket is bolted) the yaw damper bracket, it was a white/light colour, it definitely was not the section circled in red in the picture above.
  12. GCHQ.....now you’ve done it......next thing you’ll be mentioning the Bude section!
  13. ITV news south west have just shown a picture of the crack (sorry not quick enough to catch it) and to me it looks like it’s on the yaw damper bracket, I could be confusing things a bit, but it didn’t look like a straight bit of “jacking” point section.
  14. Aww don’t be cruel, they probably had a combined IQ of less than one tyres air pressure......
  15. Must have been all those tanks they were transporting!
  16. Looks like I have to register, oh well I’ll guess.....it’s not raining here anyway
  17. One of my Uncles worked at Dexion, there for life he was......Hemel Hempstead?
  18. Quite a few makes have “brake disc preparation” built in.
  19. Lights could have been on “auto” which on most makes means if the wipers come on (as they may have getting splashed screen) the lamps come on as it assumes it’s raining.
  20. Luckily it put the dashboard fire out as it went through
