Well unfortunately our gas meter is going to be changed next month for a smart meter, I have been refusing Smart meters since they were introduced but our old original British Gas meter which is nearly thirty years old has not been reading gas consumption since last August, we got changed from Pure Planet (who ignored every month when O told them with the reading it was faulty) to Shell Energy and they noticed to discrepancy in the first two readings and actually read my email telling them of the fault and I needed a new meter fitted. Bad news is they do not fit the old mechanical meters anymore so a smart gas meter is the only option.
They also wanted to change the electric meter as well for a smart meter but I said I didn’t want one and they said if they fit a new gas they will have to fit a new electric as well, I rang the company who are going to fit the new meters and told them ours is a vulnerable household with a hospital bed and air mattress and cannot have the supply interrupted for more than 15 minutes as the bed is permanently occupied and they stated they could not provide an alternative power supply while the work on the electric meter was being carried out so could not fit that meter.
Not too bad as it’s the electric meter I really object to having as a smart meter, because I now what’s going to happen eventually, peak rate charging.
