  1. Simple answer. fit the best that you can afford. Andi
  2. I’ve had three separate phone calls from EON-next this week about changing my electricity meter. None of them seem to be aware of the previous calls until they dig into my records and suddenly realise that they’ve already spoken to me. Andi
  3. Check photos of both ends though, fitting of speed sensing equipment as part of the deadmans in the mid 80s involved conversion to sealed beam lights at one end as the equipment went inside the old headcode box. Andi
  4. Thank you Kevin, That is a really useful picture of the box, it shows exactly the layout of the steps as well which I was previously unsure of. The bridge itself is not particularly easy to photograph, only really visible clearly from Gyppeswick Park with a telephoto lens. Andi
  5. Hi all, An appeal for assistance if anyone is able to help. I need photos of London Road railway bridge in Ipswich to aid in building an accurate model of it. I have some photos from Flickr but none are brilliant, in particular I have nothing that shows the down side wing wall on the London side of the bridge. Also any photos that show detail of the parts at the base of the three long arches, as to whether they are brick or concrete, and details of the pipe and its supports. And an extra ask, does anyone have any photos of the signal box that used to stand on the Up side of the bridge that controlled the exit from the Yard and later became a shunters cabin, and the walkway from the road down to it please? Can anyone help please?

  7. Our industry is full of crap Chinese knock-offs. So much so that some of our desks have a category under Manufacturers which is simply China. Chances are that no two batches of Chinese fixtures will be the same either!
  8. Don’t be so cruel to Clive, he had hair until DCC arrived!
  9. Do you know what make of decoder is fitted? Different makes have different reset options Andi
  10. Back to back is the distance between the backs of the wheels across the axle. If it's too narrow then the back of the wheel can touch things it shouldn't. You can buy back-to-back gauges https://railsofsheffield.com/products/dcc-concepts-dcg-bbn-back-to-back-n-scale-standard-765mm?variant=35450541375560&currency=GBP&utm_source=google&utm_medium=cpc&utm_campaign=google%2Bshopping&gad_source=1&gclid=CjwKCAjw_LOwBhBFEiwAmSEQAWKKW6f7hLtI4qwXjMEYZXZ6rVEDtcEl240LzVdgjnwDNFwcrR_dBxoCNj0QAvD_BwE Andi
  11. But they would be able to save a fortune on catering... Just need a couple of fish and some bread. Andi
  12. Wow, talk about timing! I'm building a model of that exact bridge right now! Andi
  13. Is the Dali actually sunk/grounded?
  14. Try gently pushing the bogies away from the baseboard edge as the loco goes over the point, if it behaves when pushed slightly sideways it will prove that the fault is as I suggested above. Andi
  15. If it's just that loco then check the back-to-backs, you've probably got a narrow gauge on one wheelset so the back of the wheel is hitting the other switchblade. Andi

  17. Hey Raymond, whatever happened to your Kestrel model?

  18. It can most definitely be ignored, I manage every day! Andi

  21. There were two messrooms for footplate grades at Stratford, one of those that didn't and one for those that did. I joined the railway in 85, the strike of 82 was still very fresh in memories and scabs never lived it down even years later. Andi
  22. Of course the grass is green, the rivers are full of $hit! Andi
  23. By the 80s it was very rare to see any loco in GE land that didn't have three axle bogies until the arrival of the AC electrics. Primarily we had 31s, 37s and 47s and that was it except shunters and units. I remember VERY occasional 40s and 45s but they really were very rare by my time, 83 onwards. I have photos of pairs of 20s at Ipswich but again they were very rare, and I can't remember ever seeing a 25 there. 56s were a later arrival on some of the stone traffic but not common. Simple thing was that Anglian drivers didn't know other traction so it didn't get there. Andi
