  1. Quite possibly so Tony. I imagine most places have more than us but I think to discuss the reason why would infringe the forum rules on politics.
  2. I know I am not the only Ex Copper on here but just to put right those that think there are more officers on patrol. There are not by any stretch of imagination. Yes there will be more cars fitted with ANPR but the biggest majority of the time you see a Police car on the road the occupants will be on their way to or from a job and not on routine patrol. I am not on my own when I say us Ex job are horrified by how few officers there are on the streets in comparison to how many there were in my day (21Years ago). I won't go into more detail here as it is OT but if most of you actually knew how many were out there working you would be horrified. So to return to the topic the fact that there are very few out on patrol and the standard of driving is worse than ever are not unconnected.
  3. Spotted in Morrison's car park in Louth today. Thankfully not had a scabby 20 year old Vauxhall parked next to it or a discarded trolley! Very tidy Sunbeam Talbot.
  4. Must have been the only decent part on the things! Gearbox was like a stick in a bucket of mud.
  5. We had a 180 as a patrol car when I was on Traffic. It was bloody awful!
  6. Are you still using the same mobile phone Jack?
  7. Probably best not to try and photograph that as they are not keen on photographs of anything behind barbed wire especially the deserted area Varosha where all the hotels and houses have been shelled !
  8. There is absolutely no problem whatsoever crossing the border. I have done it several times in the past few months as we are living in the North (Turkish side) and travel across to the South to Larnaca airport to collect and drop off visitors. As you come back into the North on the right hand side of the dual carriageway there is a yellow shunter preserved and on show on a hill which I assume was from a mine. I am always driving but next time I will try and get my good lady to get a piccie.
  9. Yet another British classic caught lingering in Northern Cyprus. This one on the forecourt of a driving school. Not being used for learning though I suspect. Also a couple of Germans lurking in there as well.
  10. Another bit of England sat idle in Northern Cyprus. I thought it was an Austin A40 Somerset but I am told it is a Devon. Only driven past it so cannot say what it is like but looks alright.
  11. Interesting video about the change of sides to drive on at a border. Scary or what? https://www.facebook.com/reginaldodecampinas/videos/539489183166583/
  12. I tried their meatballs once and that was once too many. Oh and they are made in Turkey so being Swedish has nothing to do with them.
  13. As it is a Grimsby registered car I suspect the latter!
  14. I found out by pure chance as I put Youtube on the telly and came across an interview of Guy by Suzy Perry which lasted for over an hour and was informative and entertaining. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yALPWWwKKnA
  15. Coming soon on Channel 4 Guy Martin takes on Jenson Button in classic F1 cars. http://www.channel4.com/info/press/news/guy-martin-to-take-on-jenson-button-in-iconic-senna-car-for-channel-4
  16. Yes we had them while I was in as well. The 1600 as I recall used to fly and it was a four door but then as ever to save money they changed to 1300 two doors which were lethargic at best. I seem to recall for some reason the throttle cable came across the passenger side footwell. We had a D Sgt who would press his feet against the bulkhead as you were slowing down and the car would accelerate. Not knowing what was happening hapless driver would look across at the Sgt in horror and he would be laughing his head off!
  17. Indeed which suggest it probably came from Turkey as both in the South and the North they drive on the left. Looks to be in reasonable condition due no doubt due to the climate. Let's face it if Renaults can still be in one piece from the 70's here rust isn't a big issue.
  18. Just thought I would pop by and add a couple of pictures from Northern Cyprus. There doesn't seem to be as many old British cars as I recall when I visited the South some years ago. There are classics to be seen daily running about but a lot of the old bangers seem to be Renault 12's or 9's. Nice Mini that seems to have a famous owner. Hillman Avenger for those of a Rootes persuasion that looks like it could do with some TLC.
  19. As there is just over a year between our two posts I will say thanks but we are sorted now.
  20. Nidge knowing how you have a thing for the Granada I thought you might fancy taking this one on. Oh and don't bother with all of the witty replies I have just seen them all where I nicked this from.
  21. Easiest way is report this thread using the report function button at the bottom or you could try a pm to Andy. Report is the quickest as you cannot guarantee that any of the Admin will see this post.
  22. I nicked it from the FB group vintage girls and transport Nidge which some kind soul on here put me onto. Some great pictures on there and 'some' of them are of cars! Maybe you know who put it on there Nidge!
  23. Another Mini especially for you Nidge. John Sprinzel Racing, Lancaster Mews, London, 1968, actress Isabel Black with her new modified Mk2 Morris Mini...
