Kingswear, Churston and Paignton visitors/news.
Re6/6 replied to Re6/6's topic in The railways of Devon
Whilst sorting through a packet of old prints, came across these two. Not really visitors but permanent residents (at the time) The lovely 4555 which seems to have disappeared from the face of the earth. It was 'up for sale' a few years ago (along with sister engine 4588) whilst in store at Paignton 'Queens Park' loco shed. Heard nothing since. Does anybody know what has happened to them? They did look rather nice in service on the line. I always thought that they should go home to the SDR. Coaches haven't been stored right down the end of the long Hoodown siding (halfway between the two ferries) for some years now. -
I auctioned a lot of four of these a couple of years ago and IIRC they sold for about £40, although unboxed, they were near mint with no warping! Of course it is from our Cartmel friend. I suspect that this is destined to be up for a longer time than even the notorious Gaieity pannier body. (7 years+!)

More work has been done with the balustrades on board 4. They have been refitted, filled, smoothed and sprayed in undercoat to be 'photographically proved' The 'proving' has been useful in showing up all the imperfect finishing. Normally this would have probably been OK for 'normal viewing distances' but not for 'cruel' camera close-ups which are now such a part of out hobby nowadays! The new visitor arrived last week which will be used for our 'blue/grey' operating period. It will also be used on a mixed consist with an original umber and cream set as was the case for a short period in the late 60s.

I found this old and rather unremarkable snap recently. Taken in the late 70s/early 80s, I guess. It was worth recording as it was the first visit of The Orient Express set to Kingswear IIRC.- 115 replies

Graham Farish 00 'suburban' coach kit.

Thanks all! -
Whilst having a sort out I found this 00 Graham Farish 'suburban' coach kit that I'd bought years ago. Can anybody enlighten me as to the accuracy/resemblance (or not!) as to what it represents, or is something from the realms of fantasy? The body moulding seems to be quite acceptable for conversion into something more respectable. Thanks

I think that it could. There's an 0-6-0 fireless loco that is used occasionally. It may even be an 0-8-0, I can't remember!

...A little more from a good running evening.... Trains from three eras! ..and as debated elsewhere on here...accidents do happen! In the words of a senior railway operative there last night..." Cease all movements for at least two days, so that this mess can be investigated" "....and proved beyond doubt that it isn't a crime scene" Sense prevailed and it was found immediately that it was a Kadee coupling failure whilst in propelling mode. Report duly lodged!

I was just about to ask you the other way round!

...Some more 10BIL running last night.

I was faffing about today with it and fancied a few snaps. Not many more angles to be taken on something so small! I fancied a couple from the opposite end to the one that Andy used for his shots for BRM. Not in the same league I'm afraid! ...with some of the usual silly obligatory captions added! 5762 approaches Tidenenham Tunnel Waiting for something to appear from the gloom of Tidenham Tunnel.
