  1. Thanks all for the good wishes. The worst seems to have passed. Problem now is to get any of the 'authorities' to do anything. We rang EA, C Council, District council and they all said that it was the other's problem. Well I had a look on the top road where much of the water has come from is now undermined. Will be interesting when a heavy vehicle goes over it they'll have to do something then!

  2. Been up half the night on floodwatch. A leat at the top of the road overtopped and the road became a torrent. Houses up the road were flooded as the leat tried to take it's old course. Fortunately it kept out although the manhole covers popped. I was a little concerned about the railway room. Priorities! i shudder to think what Cowley Bridge Jcn will be like this morning as this amount of rain has never caused us problems before.

Fingers crossed John . It looks like some of the flooding in the south west is already ahead of the EA website info, alas.

I used to travel to school from Egham to London every day in BILs/HALs until the 'Nelsons' took over towards the end. I always used to look out for a 'Tin HAL' on platform 21(IIRC) if there was one in the set. to travel back in as they were much more comfy!

    EBay madness

Not madness but it's the first time that I ever seen what appears to be an Alan Williams article conversion in an edition of the old Model Railway Constructor in the 60s http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=170961744513&ssPageName=ADME:B:SS:GB:1123 I've still got the half-finished Kitmaster sides somewhere!

MJT aluminium roof section might do. It's not quite the correct profile though I don't think, but I'm going to try one of them for an original style 2HAL, using the Branchlines sides as a basis to save all that hard work in plastic card Colin!
  6. Had a lovely afternoon playing with Rod's layout. I was really amazed at the weight of the Heljan diesels. It's the first time that I've seen it and it really is impressive. I particularly like the scenics (to be expected!) and the whole look of the thing. A few snaps with the cellphone...
  7. Something odd happening? The Olten webcam has stopped as well. The timetables etc.are still working but no pic.

    EBay madness

Times must be getting hard! I do often wonder what prices would be realised if our 'friends' ever put their stuff up for auction rather than BIN prices.

    EBay madness

Went for a higher price (£1) than it could been bought from High Level kits with a presumption of completeness and gear ratio variety not listed. http://cgi.ebay.co.u...E:B:WNA:GB:1123
  10. .has seen Mozzer's build of a Beattie kit and has given himself hope for his El Cr*ppo kit!

R4577 @ £35 (rrp) on Hornby's website. Seems to be OOS ATM but why not wait rather than paying £79? Are they a 'limited production'?
  12. is trying to come to terms with an 'El Cr*ppo' original style 2HAL kit.. The brass etched wrapper is OK for its time but the whitemetal is more akin to something by Salvador Dali. Some 'creative thinking' for their replacement is needed. Thank you Colin P for all your work in creating one that I can crib ideas from!

Thank you Brian. I see what you mean!

  13. Looks like a railgrinder or maybe a tamper.
  14. You're right...it was me that started it...! http://www.rmweb.co....220#entry866220 I've now resurrected it. The camera is halfway back to it's original position now. Still quite interesting with close-ups. Let's hope that the owners do the job properly. Today it's non-stop action. In the time that it takes to do a 'print screen' two more trains have passed! What is useful is the timetables and train formations that are there with the camera images.
  15. Olten very busy this morning. http://pittsburgh.et....ch/TC/Cam0 The camera is still only halfway back to it's original position but does give a close-up of the middle platform. A lovely close up of an Re6/6 on a freight and a pair of BLS Re4/4s on a long freight. Do you regulars on here prefer if I started an Olten thread? I like to look at both! Can't look away for a moment ..all action today!
  16. Haven't looked for a while, but there seems to be fewer shunters there now.

    EBay madness

Remember this gem from our one of our 'two' friends http://www.ebay.co.u...5fd68d591 that has been over 7 years in the selling...well there's another at a much more sensible price. http://cgi.ebay.co.u...:SS:GB:1123 It will be interesting to see what it fetches! I sold one for around £2 a little while ago!

This 'unopened' *rap really does *iss me off. ebay should get a grip on this.....but hey...fat chance...
  19. Replying to an earlier status comment re- Royal Mail I speak as I find. My experiences have all been positive with over a hundred small parcels sent to home and abroad without loss or delay. In fact Two recent orders from C&L and a small model shop arrived the next day after ordering both at 1500hrs the previous day!

  20. Just watched again the Beach Boys classic performance at Knebworth 1980. http://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episode/b01p2q5s/The_Beach_Boys_Live_at_Knebworth/ Brings a bit of sunshine to a miserable cold day. The energy of the late great Dennis Wilson's drumming. Carl and him are sadly missed. 'I get around just takes me back....'

"Animal" from the muppets was based on Dennis Wilson - discuss!

PS that's not meant in any way as a derogatory comment. The Wilson brothers, along with Love/Jardine/Campbell/Johnston/whoever were prime-movers in the mid-late 1960s pop revolution. Talented, innovative and just "bloody good"!

  21. ..is still picking and enjoying super sweet tomatoes in late November from the vines in the conservatory/railway room.

  22. Also posted in the 'Railways of Devon' SI section (Railways of Plymouth) A few snaps taken about 10 years ago of the track near the entrance area of the Cattewater bitumen depot. The tanks were usually shunted down the branch with an 08 and collected by the bitumen loco at the gates. I understand that class 66s made a few appearances on this dodgy track. It would have been interesting to see that. The depot has closed and I believe that the track has now been removed. I have a few more of the depot and locos if anyone would like to see them. I would love to create some 4mm trackwork like this but would no doubt be a disaster! Note the tie bars to keep it to gauge. Looking towards the tunnel. Check out the checkrail gap. Definitely not to P4 standard!
  23. 'Move it' Cliff Richard & the Drifters/Shads. A bit cheesy....but..!
