  1. Work has slowed down again on these two. I ordered some phospher bronze strip over Christmas to make up the pick-ups, however it was out of stock. I'm hoping to find some at the Stafford exhibition and then get these two running. In the meantime I've done a bit more work to the bodies. The kit is supplied with a couple of small etches for the cab floor, obviously not the whole floor as the motor and gearbox sit inside the cab. These pieces sit either side and are only used for the open cabbed version as the floor is visible through the door opening. The photo below shows one floor piece soldered in place and the other in front of the loco waiting its turn; Handrails soldered in place and roofs fitted; Hopefully I'll have more progress to show you soon. Paul.
  2. It looks like it has a full depth hull - do you intend cutting it down to a waterline model? Paul.

  5. Drove home from work along some backroads and a green lane. All good fun with a couple of snowdrifts thrown in as well.

Surely the green lane was a white lane?...

  7. wonders why we have 1:76 for railway modelling and 1:72 for aircraft, military etc. Shame both disciplines don't share the same scale.

So the model aircraft look as if they're higher up when they fly over the layout?

I have a large collection of military models in 1/76 from the 70s & 80s, + some in 1/72 but that's more common now.

  8. Many years from now... "Ah, that's just what I need" he said, spotting a rather old and battered GWR coach in a sale. After getting it home he decides that the roof is a bit wonky and decides a replacement is in order. "I'll whip this odd plastic former off as well whilst I'm at it". "What the... some clots only gone and glued a figure on a toilet in there - and they couldn't even be bothered to paint it!" Paul.

      Depends why you're selling.

  12. You suprise me Julia, but I'll bet that's where the problem lies. As you say leaving the axle hole to be drilled after tyre fitting could be the way to wobble free running. Paul.
  13. Just out of interest Julia, did you turn the printed wheel centres true before fitting the tyres? Paul.
  14. Starting another purge - tempted to get rid of my last few RTR items.

  17. If it works and you're happy with the result I cannot see how your approach can be half-baked. Interestingly you say that these coaches are brass and have been glued together - many would say that's a half-baked approach but as they're still in one piece after many years of use it just shows that soldering isn't always the only way to join two pieces of metal. (If anyone wants me I'll be in the corner wearing a tin hat!) Paul.
