I wonder if they will do a Waterloo bicentennial one? (The Magna Carta doodle is not on the US site.)

  2. Kato look to be re-releasing the Eurostar intermediate carriages.

  3. I have an indifferent video at present, but yes, once the running has been refined a little more I'll post a video or two...
  4. Just by way of a further update - the first of the bridge sides have been fretted and test fitted. Picture taken by a colleague on a work day the other week - one of many work days I could not attend! The original thought was to use the silhouette cutter for the side, but a slightly sturdier option of wood was chosen. Lots of work to do on the bridge - but at least it's some tangible progress!
  5. A frequent issue surrounding exhibition layouts is a lack of activity - sometimes due to a rigid adherence to operational practice, a total lack of adherence to something called organisation, or simply a lack of bodies. Part of a solution to this is the automation of some aspects of the layout - namely the trams. Friedrichstrasse has a simple tram circuit controlled via laptop, which is divided into sections. This enables a number of trams to follow one-another around the circuit, bunching up at the various trams stops. It takes some fettling, towards the end of the evening, our electronics lot managed to get it running quite smoothly. Our resident tram collector has a really nice selection to choose from, including a number of the Kato 4-wheelers. This one has had a minimal amount of modification, mainly involving a fine wire brush and the addition of new decals; make a huge difference to the appearance. Testing in full swing. The intention is to have four trams operating simultaneously - which we managed to do for a while last night. In other news, a full test was carried out the other week on the main line, which highlighted some running issues across the board join from the end boards to the main layout. Our track gang have been hard at work over the last couple of weeks relaying across the joints. Some sections of the track has been painted and is now awaiting ballasting. The track on the right in the second picture is the S-Bahn line, which like the trams, will be automated - this will have a shuttle unit fitted; all we need to do now is conjure up something suitable to run on it!
  6. Hooray - Springwatch is back!

Are springs particularly interesting to watch, then? Presumably a long spell of gazing at 'em can pay dividends?

Are they left or right-hand coiled springs ?

Oi you lot, don't knock it. Watching springs is considerably more entertaining than a lot of what's on TV.

  12. I'm sure someone (in a chairman-like capacity) asked to be judged at the end of the season. Well, after a record low-points score and general chaos throughout the season, culminating in yesterday's protest, I suspect judgement is pretty clear. Here's hoping for a new chapter for Blackpool soon...

Is anyone opening a book on which one will be going straight back down at the end of next season?

    4. rembrow

      rembrow

No need for a book, Watford have been there and got the 'parachute payment' before. The only time they stayed more than one season in the top tier was with Graham Taylor, who did a similar meteoric rise with the Hornets as Eddie Howe has just done with Bournemouth.

  17. You get two helpings of this in one concert! On a more practical note, I am pleased to see there are not as many 6:30 starts. Its a little awkward getting from work (near Monument) to the hall via the District and Circle in time...I go to either the arena or gallery. 7:30 means I have a better chance of getting in!
  18. The Proms 2015 program has been launched. Nielsen? Check - although not vintage sadly Sibelius? Check Scriabin? Check All 5 Prokofiev piano concertos in one concert? Check!

  22. It was last mentioned a few years ago... http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/15336398 I also seems to recall a similar type suggestion being made by Bolton's (look where they are now) Phil Gartside. A recent supporter of the 'closed shop' Premiership was none other than Dave Whelan...see League 1 for his team next season.

  24. It is something that a number of Premiership teams (unsurprisingly those currently in the Premiership) have suggested over the years, and I'm sure would dearly love...a form of protectionism that should never be enacted. There will be those teams who are unlikely to be relegated, but what makes the likes of West Brom, Swansea or Sunderland (to pick on three teams) any more deserving than, say, Sheffield Wednesday, Leeds or Nottingham Forest? I also suggest this would never be acceptable for the TV companies - sure seeing who will win the league can sometime be exciting, but the relegation battle is always more interesting. The lack of competition would be the death of the league, and more than likely be challenged by League teams.
