  5. Thanks... Stories such as this make an interesting back-history to the station, and a useful resource for the layout.
  6. Yes, we managed to get the tram line running... Hurrah! We had a constructive day today, with the tram lines wired up; albeit to a temporary controller. The tram lines This is a standard Kato 4-wheeled tram, which has been rubbed down with an abrasive brush. A very slow and painstaking process, which can easily foul-up an expensive model if it goes wrong. If done correctly (which this most certainly has) the most amazing effect can be achieved. The only other external modification is the addition of transfers. The roof really adds to the effect, pity about the need to remove the track in the central roads. In the far background are a pair of Wiking Berlin Stadtbuses; obtained for the princely sum of £3.00 each at a recent show. Still to come - videos! Once uploaded onto the Tube of You...
  7. Oh, I don't know, long stories are good... Not so great is our progress... sadly one of our members decided to purchase an engine which transpired to be too wide for our carefully measured platform clearances! Net result; lots of track-lifting, amid muttered threats of inserting any new acquisition fouling our amended track alignment where the sun does not shine...and German H0 locos are quite large with lots of knobbly bits... ...sore. Anyway, tomorrow is our club open day. Hopefully we will have the trams up and running.
  8. is a happy boy! Kanjiyama is featured in this month's Continental Modeller.

  9. It was a great day, and after some initial hiccups (I did cause a couple of pileups I'm afraid!) Banbury proved to be a very enjoyable layout to operate...many thanks for asking me to help! A couple of pictures of the layout - more from the show in general in the relevant thread once I have sorted through them...

  12. hmmm...our train has been dispatched early from Christ's Hospital twice in as many weeks. 07:42 is 07:42, not 07:41. On both occassions someone has missed the train. Black Mark Southern!

Not me gov...I get on at an earlier station. If I miss a train, I do it properly! P.S. I don't kick the train door, as the fellow in question did this morning!

  13. Only one thing to say about that. Oh b****r!! Is there any way this could be salvaged, for example file out the damaged window, board it up, and weather down the surrounding area to suggest smoke damage?
  14. Today saw another work day - a good 5 hours of solid work on the layout. Attention has turned to the main trackwork, although some further tinkerings took place on the tram lines, when meant the platforms needed to be at least temporarily fixed. The station is starting to take shape! The overall roof was temporarily fixed The overall roof is from a couple of modified Kibri Bonn kits.
  15. Yes, very sad to see the chaos currently engulfing the club. I suspect we have passed the point of no return for Pardew, which is sad as I think this current situation is more around the club in general than the manager himself. I would not be surprised if they string some results together once he leaves...you get the feeling the players are not performing to the best of their abilities at present...

  17. spent this evening watching Bugs on DVD - only(!) 20-odd years ago, but seriously dated!

  18. Absolutely no harm in doing that... Coincidentally I am currently building a concrete block of flats - based on a Plattenbau principle - for our club's layout set in 1950s Berlin. As this will occupy an oddly shaped site, this needs to be scratch built, so I am following your appartment construction with interest. Different era, but similar ideologies!
  19. Okay, agreed...but in fairness I did not say he was always played out of position. Your own comment implies he was out of position about 50% of the time, therefore his goal-scoring rate is likely to be lower. I am not saying he would have scored the same rate as van Persie or Rooney (we'll find out at the end of the season no doubt), just we are not comparing apples with apples here...
  20. This time last year we had a holiday in Greece. Travelling around the Peloponnese, I saw a fair few railway lines; sadly most of them disused. My understanding is that pretty much everything except the main line along the north of the island and the line running along the west coast and then inland to Olympia, was suspended when the financial troubles started for Greece. Certainly what I saw of the narrow gauge network looked fascinating, including the rather spartan branchline terminus at Navplion. The most interesting feature there was the fact the station had been moved to the northern edge of the town, but the former (more centrally situated) station remain...completed with stuffed and mounted narrow gauge steam engine (of what looked to be German design) and a couple of carriages. There was still evidence of the old tracks in the road way, indicating a tramway-type approach to the station.
  21. Hmmm, not too sure the Welbeck situation is being handled particularly well by either Arsenal or Man Utd. Its all very well van Gaal airily stating that he did not score enough goals, but when you are often played out of position, then chances are your goal scoring rate will be lower. I wonder if van Persie or Rooney would hit the 'standard' if they were stuck out on the wing? Wenger surprised me with his statement about not signing Welbeck if he had been in the country...what a great welcome to the team! I can't help thinking that Wenger's approach last January, where the lack of depth cost them when injuries/fatigue caught up with them, played some part in this. Injuries are bad luck, not strengthening your team to cope with these injuries is poor planning, and Wenger has been guilty of this over the last few seasons. Given the state of their squad on the day prior to the end of the transfer window, it would have been a massive gamble not to have reinforced to cover Giroud's absence; as similar gambles have failed in the past, I wonder if it was one the Board were not prepared to take again. Upshot, of course, is that Welbeck has everything to prove - it is in his hands...
  22. wonders if Southern are issuing their Managers with flak jackets in preparation for tomorrow morning's 'Meet the Manager' day at London Bridge...

Always used to be great entertainment watching a Meet the Managers session as you would see a wave of commuters suddenly en masse change direction mid concourse like a shoal of fish and head straight for them in a stampede!

I think they're going to need something stronger than bacon sarnies after running this particular gauntlet!
