  1. Our much-loved guinea pig suddenly died today. He was full of beans this morning when I fed him at 7:00; but at 10:30 Mrs Dreyfus found him dead. RIP Phaal.

Thanks all. I hope he had a good life, and, hopefully, a swift and painless end (I reckon it was either a heart attack or a stoke; no trauma of the vets or a lingering death.

We never 'own' these animals, we merely borrow them for a few years; obviously our loan period was up. There is a Phaal-shaped hole in the world today.

  4. The layout pictures are certainly a potential source of inspiration...thanks for posting. Any pictures of this nature, that we can refer to during the layout construction, are most welcome...
  5. Thanks...I will take a look. Please feel free to post any relevant pictures...the layout you mention sounds interesting.
  6. Every piece of information will be helpful to us. Thanks for posting.

  11. Thanks... Stories such as this make an interesting back-history to the station, and a useful resource for the layout.
  12. Yes, we managed to get the tram line running... Hurrah! We had a constructive day today, with the tram lines wired up; albeit to a temporary controller. The tram lines This is a standard Kato 4-wheeled tram, which has been rubbed down with an abrasive brush. A very slow and painstaking process, which can easily foul-up an expensive model if it goes wrong. If done correctly (which this most certainly has) the most amazing effect can be achieved. The only other external modification is the addition of transfers. The roof really adds to the effect, pity about the need to remove the track in the central roads. In the far background are a pair of Wiking Berlin Stadtbuses; obtained for the princely sum of £3.00 each at a recent show. Still to come - videos! Once uploaded onto the Tube of You...
  13. Oh, I don't know, long stories are good... Not so great is our progress... sadly one of our members decided to purchase an engine which transpired to be too wide for our carefully measured platform clearances! Net result; lots of track-lifting, amid muttered threats of inserting any new acquisition fouling our amended track alignment where the sun does not shine...and German H0 locos are quite large with lots of knobbly bits... ...sore. Anyway, tomorrow is our club open day. Hopefully we will have the trams up and running.
  14. is a happy boy! Kanjiyama is featured in this month's Continental Modeller.

  15. It was a great day, and after some initial hiccups (I did cause a couple of pileups I'm afraid!) Banbury proved to be a very enjoyable layout to operate...many thanks for asking me to help! A couple of pictures of the layout - more from the show in general in the relevant thread once I have sorted through them...

Not me gov...I get on at an earlier station. If I miss a train, I do it properly! P.S. I don't kick the train door, as the fellow in question did this morning!

  19. Only one thing to say about that. Oh b****r!! Is there any way this could be salvaged, for example file out the damaged window, board it up, and weather down the surrounding area to suggest smoke damage?
  20. Today saw another work day - a good 5 hours of solid work on the layout. Attention has turned to the main trackwork, although some further tinkerings took place on the tram lines, when meant the platforms needed to be at least temporarily fixed. The station is starting to take shape! The overall roof was temporarily fixed The overall roof is from a couple of modified Kibri Bonn kits.
  21. Yes, very sad to see the chaos currently engulfing the club. I suspect we have passed the point of no return for Pardew, which is sad as I think this current situation is more around the club in general than the manager himself. I would not be surprised if they string some results together once he leaves...you get the feeling the players are not performing to the best of their abilities at present...
