  1. Lockerbie railway station (also in Dumfries and Galloway) did not get disabled access to its southbound platform until February 2008, according to a picture caption on RailScot, Therefore not sure such provision would have been being considered at NS in the 1980s, in this "what if" scenario. This page: https://www.railscot.co.uk/locations/L/Lockerbie/4.html#pagination BTW, that page has an interesting graph showing the considerable increase in passengers at Lockerbie in the last 20 or so years!
  2. Thanks for the virtual exhibition. Haven't missed many York shows in about the last 40 years or so! Hoping that you are "on" next year and in turn hope to be able to manage along. Mention of Friday visitors does remind me that three of us travelled over from Dumfries in about the mid 1980s, on a Friday. Just assumed that the person who suggested it had checked the days and took their word! We turned up at the race course and thought "this seems very quiet!" Went off to the North York Moors Railway for the day instead.
  3. This page on Wikipedia mentions road locomotives similar to this built by R.W. Thomson of Edinburgh which had rubber tyred wheels. Sure I have seen a picture in a book but the only I could find quickly was a very small one in Wheels around Edinburgh" by Alan Brotchie, published by Stenlake. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/History_of_steam_road_vehicles
  4. Might be going a bit too far, but Pandrol clip colours have a meaning, both in type of fixing and to distinguish the rarely used/needed left handed type from the normal right handed type. Type used also depends on type of sleeper. Current guidance seems to be this document: http://www.pandroluserguide.co.uk/library/Downloads/Pandrol_User_Guide_Edition_8_v7.1.pdf Obviously this is current guidance so might have also been different in era of your model as well. My knowledge pretty limited and only from occasional track work volunteering on a preserved railway, so had to do a wee bit of searching to find above document. Anyway, hope of some interest or help, perhaps in not applying what seen on today’s railway to a previous time period.
  5. Could the title of this thread be edited to reflect this? Presumably needs a moderator?
  6. Hi. Just working back through unread posts on “watched” threads(!). Just in case you are still looking for Silver Tay Models, a google search shows they trade on EBay. I am also pretty sure that they were at the Perth model railway exhibition last year, in case you attend that, although maybe unlikely to be on in with current situation.

Links from Facebook page for North British Diesel and Electric Locomotives. This picture might help a little regarding two tone green: last day at Laurencekirk station, September 1967. D6102 at same station on same day. From same Flickr account but not clear if it is the same train in both pictures, although this could be of the first one departing?
  8. Link: https://www.nymr.co.uk/blog/civil-engineering-diary-10-march-2020 I had been meaning to look to see if there were any updates myself. An impressive amount of investment and volunteer input.
  9. Further hijacking/diversion! Sorry! Thanks for this link, and to others for the follow up comments. I was not aware of the Midland Railway Centre one but was aware of the GW one, through adverts in MRJ. Is the Midland one advertised at all? And are there other potential options? Although the Midland one seems better from the feedback. The link was also interesting in that Midland also do a variety of turntable kits in 4mm that, again, I wasn’t conscious of. Maybe just me of course though! A build of one of the turntables on another forum is linked, which was useful. Of course, that led to a diversion of looking at the Hawick layout thread that was where the turntable was for!
  10. Not sure about cheaper? The first one you found looks to include VAT, the second one doesn’t.
  11. Up to 9 hours stay is £5.00, which should cover a stay. https://www.glasgowsciencecentre.org/visit/parking Figuring out how to pay for your ticket in a “bus shelter” on a wet and dark night a wee bit of a challenge though! Otherwise recommended.
  12. You are right about the all caps and I might be a bit wrong about bold equalling shouting, however it did seem a bit “attention seeking”. Also, not sure how bold can be emphasis when the whole post is in bold. Anyway, not important in the context of the enquiry and subsequent responses.
  13. You said you had paid by PayPal. Have you checked their information to see how your payment is protected, to perhaps answer your concerns? Doing that might put your mind at rest? Of course you might have done that. I think it was maybe last year that the owner of RT suggested that his work commitments were such that he was going to pause, or stop altogether, the model making sideline? That seemed to have passed, just from watching this thread, but maybe he has another busy spell at his day job or pressing family commitments. I am sure doing both jobs must be pretty onerous and would think all would agree his day job and any family issues come first. We have seen before that negative comments can lead to small manufacturers questioning their continued activities, and I would not like to see RT, or others, consider that. I hope that you get what you ordered in due course. As you said, you are not in a rush for it. ps. typing in bold is perceived to be the equivalent of “shouting” online.

Compare with these two: Picture from same Flickr photostream as Phil Bullock used upthread. One on right looks to slightly show door outline below headcode box, but nothing above. Picture of real ones suggests a pretty “clean” face compared to model, e.g. lamp irons also seem more prominent, presumably an issue of what can be reproduced commercially?
  15. Off topic, but is the Barnard Castle layout going to be on the exhibition circuit? And/or is there a thread or a blog about it? Reason I ask is my friend has quite an interest in that town. Thanks.
  16. Gardena Micro-Drip-System extension pipes at my local Homebase (Dumfries) - five in packet for £1.00. (Elsewhere £4.95 or so). Grey plastic. 13mm (1/2") diameter. 200mm long. Or maybe to you as a pipe wagon load, or a station platform canopy column? Hope not just in Dumfries!
  17. Aldi palm router: reduced from £29.99 to £12.99. At least in Dumfries store! This one: https://www.aldi.co.uk/ferrex-600w-palm-router/p/018278285168900 No doubt has its limitations but worth a try, I think. Also had a planer with same reduction but probably less model railway related.
  18. Wilko's Christmas card holders. AKA miniature (approx. 45mm long) wooden clothes pegs. Useful as small clamps etc. 30 pence for a pack of 20. Was only a pound/pack or three packs for price of two, but didn't see that before Christmas! Unfortunately, my nearest branch, Castle Douglas, only seemed to have the one packet ... Not worth trailing around for but might be worth looking for if you are in a branch anyway. Hope of interest to someone.
  19. Lightmoor book? I'm maybe getting my recollections of LMS and BR 2-6-0s muddled, hence my qualifying my response. I will check pictures when I can. Stanier 3MT's though were certainly on Kirkcudbright branch. Judith Edge kits seem to be working towards an etched kit.
  20. Don't immediately recall seeing a picture of one at Kirkcudbright or on that branch. Dumfries, Stranraer, Newton Stewart and Whithorn branch - yes or pretty certain.
  21. Yes, I gave in when they were another £10 off in the Rails advent calendar offer last week!
  22. Had a wee look at this blog - from what I saw it looks to be a very thorough restoration. I hope they have benefited a wee bit from the Hornby model being produced!
  23. Maybe it is just assembled incorrectly? I think that was a problem with some Bachmann 00 wagons using their standard 10' underframe? And maybe even some of their unfitted 9' wheelbase 16T minerals? Or is it more substantial failings? I never have got to the point when I can recall correctly the subtleties of the brakegear of fitted 16 tonners!
