  4. Helpful info. I guess the tie-bar, if provided, might be easier to remove than to add. I note you say different brake gear - does this create opportunities for further use of underframe, or is the wheelbase unique to this vehicle? Is there a preserved one this possibly scanned from? Not particularly familiar with Southern goods stock! Good to see Hornby realising the scope for modern models of goods stock. Thanks,
  5. Are you on Face book? Couple of pictures of Haymarket on the "Scottish Railways" page: https://www.facebook.com/groups/ScottishRailways/?fref=nf See: https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=10207669471678519&set=gm.556925247793531&type=3&theater and https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=10207669485558866&set=gm.556925894460133&type=3&theater

  7. Hi. Mastering soldering seems the easier route! You could start with something far simpler - a wagon kit, or even just some bits of brass. Or a Comet Models coach might be a start? http://www.cometmodels.co.uk There are demonstrators at many exhibitions who would I'm sure give you an understanding of what's involved. Or perhaps a local club? Or maybe at a local meeting of a scale society? Peter Stanger of 52F demonstrated soldering at a recent meeting of the North-east and Borders EM group which was very helpful (I realise not local to you). Probably helps if you are a member, but no requirement to actually build in that scale. I'm sure you would be able to attend as a prospective member, if there is a suitable group near you. (The EM Society may also be a useful source for track building tools). Or perhaps somewhere like here: http://www.missendenrailwaymodellers.org.uk/index.html From what I've seen of the 52F models kits at above meets, and the instructions, a lot of thought has gone into aiding construction and ensuring fit of parts. I haven't actually built any of them, but the openness of the proprietor suggests a willingness to produce a quality product. Hope this is of some assistance.
  8. The Steaming Sixties. 10. Scottish Sheds Swansong. Paul Anderson. Irwell Press. £12.99. (I got mine for £10 from Bill Hudson Books at the recent Wigan exhibition, where he had much stock at prices below RRP - to compete with Booklaw? Although full whack on his website). 64 pages. Landscape format in the usual Ian Allan colour album style. All photographs are by A G Forsth, Initial Photographics. Content is very much what it says in title - vast majority of pictures are loco portraits. Some are pretty dark and/or with heavy shadows. Whilst I've no experience of Photoshop or similar I would have thought some could have been improved, assuming they haven't been already. Perhaps this book has exhausted what available from this collection, but a few are really not that great - one interior shot describes a WD that is barely discernible in the gloom. Captions are primarily loco history and shed allocations. However at about 20p a photograph it's probably fair value, if you want, say, some inspiration for loco weathering. I doubt this one will be pulled off the shelf for a quick flick through in the way that the more general Ian Allan "Scottish Railways" ones have been over the years.

  10. Further to post 448 in this thread, Lanarkshire Model Supplies (LMS) now have chimneys. See post 103 here: http://www.rmweb.co.uk/community/index.php?/topic/97686-new-stuff-from-lanarkshire-models-supplies/page-5 Don't seem to be on the website yet. J83 kit: 52F models kit: http://52fmodels.sharepoint.com/Pages/J83.aspx Business owner Peter Stanger has recently had a health scare, so I'm unsure of supply position.
  11. Surprised nobody has commented on how to upload a picture - I don't know myself, but I think if you use the "my media" bit in the area above where you add a comment you might manage. Thanks to Don for supplying the newspaper clippng about unloading.
  12. Thought they might be. Struck how the lamp support is similar to this example at Bo'ness: https://www.flickr.com/photos/93910018@N02/20056308262/in/album-72157632955037741/ Don't seem to be currently in production as Mike's Models - will just have to look out for second hand ones! Cheers, 26power
  13. Hello. Can you advise of the source of your station platform lamps? Thanks,
  14. Hello Jock. Sorry to hear of your situation - apologies if I've overlooked that in the past. It would be great if you could record some of your father's stories. Or of operating practices around Dumfries etc. I would be particularly interested if there is anything about Kirkcudbright, but anything would be of benefit. On here might be a start? Regards, 26power .
  15. Further to this, the author advises: "You can buy a copy of the book directly from me. The price is £7.99 plus £1.50 for 1st class p & p.. Make your cheque payable to A L Foley and send to the address shown below. Archie Foley 21/1 Joppa Road Edinburgh EH15 2HA"
  16. No problem, glad to have been able to help in some small way - Haymarket was my "home" shed when i was young, albeit in the diesel era. I'm assuming the guttering and downpipes are Scalelink's? If you get some I would be interested in seeing some pictures of it, if possible - it's not a range you see in shops etc. these days. Cheers, John Howell
  17. From Steam to Diesel: https://www.facebook.com/1413937658905453/photos/a.1413941825571703.1073741828.1413937658905453/1495154134117138/?type=3 Have e-mailed the address given to find out how to purchase directly. Will advise further when/if details advised. Launch(?) at: Portobello Book Festival on Saturday 3rd October at 2pm in Portobello High School Library. There was an exhibition of them last year at Portobello, see: http://artblart.com/2014/11/05/exhibition-text-from-steam-to-diesel-at-the-portobello-library-edinburgh/ Sounds like a very lucky find of these pictures! Wonder how many of the 500 make it into the book? Maybe not that many for £7.99. (64 pages according to the French Amazon! From there ISBN is: 978-0993402807, but seems preferable to support the author more directly.)
  18. Ayr shed in August 1967 (colour). Use in Scotland seemed very much a rarity? Or just not recorded? https://www.flickr.com/photos/12a_kingmoor_klickr/21286258241/in/photostream/
  19. Chimney suppliers: http://www.freestonemodel.co.uk/page20.htm http://www.scalelink.co.uk/acatalog/Scenic___Scale_1_76__OO_.html I probably have both somewhere, although not used. I seem to recall the Freestone ones are relatively recent production (some decent pics (need for same acknowledged on website) might help sales). The Scalescenes ones have been around for ages, but, if I remember correctly, were very nicely detailed. No doubt other suppliers out there! Regards,

Apologies if any of these are reposts.
  23. Any use? 27/08/1974 - Doncaster, South Yorkshire, from the 53A collection (colour): https://www.flickr.com/photos/blue-diesels/15647960430/in/dateposted/
  24. Michael's link has me looking through the 53A collection again.
