  1. Crop rotation in the 14th century was - considerably - more widespread... after... God, I know this... don't tell me... after 1172.

Don't remind me of crop rotation! I can remember doing paperwork at DEFRA that went along the lines of "I've lent half of this field to Farmer A to grow turnips an, and in return he's lent me part of one of his fields to grow carrots on. I've lent another part of my field to Farmer B to grow beetroots on, and he's lent me part of his field etc!" Then we realised that in a year's time they'd be writing in to say they'd swapped it all back again....

  2. Second day at Birtley, how many cups of tea today.

  3. Layout in van, off to Birtley.

  4. Runs very smoothly through the point work, very good, I hope you're pleased with it.
  5. There's nearly always something for the body on the chassis fret, I always look now, I've made the complex NER bunker top lamp brackets only to find it on the chassis fret...
  6. Here's one I built for a club layout a few years ago. It's a bit basic, with no interior and is one of the simplest of NER designs with very few embellishments on the outside. It's built from cars with Metcalfe brick, D&S windows and Wills slates.
  7. Do you really think they're going to waste good pasties on the great unwashed?
  8. I thought it was a cannon for firing parsnips (or cans of deodorant) into the crowd at exhibitions...
  9. Yes, not a classic beauty, but there's something about her.
  10. New camera lens in the post!

Taken some photos of Felton Lane and it's so sharp I've had to dust the layout, it's like HD.

I used old Pentax screw-thread lenses for colour photography. Sharp lenses and I just liked handling those old bodies...

  12. Here they are Ian, over our way. That warehouse looks superb Jason, the 7mm brick looks just right for the type of stone used on those buildings.

  17. Looks good Mike, don't worry about mixing brass and nylon, it's really tough stuff, lubricate it with the correct plastics compatible grease, not oil. As for the lay shafts, I usually smear a little Evo-stik on the shaft end, it can soon be removed if necessary.
  18. It's been a while since I looked I here (prompted by the title change) and wow, it's changed. That siding will alter the whole look of the layout. Looking forward to seeing progress.
  19. Felton Lane's cabin is now just about finished, some of the glazing is a bot wonky and these will be sorted sometime. Some of the paint needs touching up as well. Details of the build in my Felton Lane thread.
  20. A life of surprises - The best of Prefab Sprout. Don't know which is weirder, the frog, the hot dogs or the hairstyles... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4T6e3GJCjow
