  1. Got a vision of the Cap'n in a big hat and chaps carrying a lasso... Nice work on the goods shed Cap'n.
  2. Never built anything with such big wheels before, 7' wheels are huge, even in 4mm scale...

    1. Debs.

      Not quite Stirling service! :-)

No, but an east coast racer none the less.

  3. Chassis is progressing well. The motor and gearbox has been test fitted and can almost be hidden between the frames! A small amount will need to be taken off the inside of the backhead so it will fit.
  4. Before the telly took a rare hold of me last night I managed to get a bit more done. The cab interior has been fitted and the handrail knobs on the cab sides. Cab roof support also fitted, it feels a lot more solid now. Tonight I have started on the frames, there is quite a selection of spacers (for each gauge) but some are for different motor mounts so can be left out. There is a 10BA nut soldered to the front one (left) to attach the bogie.
  5. Using three day's holiday and having ten day's off, can't be bad...

  6. Thanks for all the comments. Ozzyo, I've been using Simonez primer and it is a fairly fine spray and covers evenly, for the black I've also used Plasticote matt black but these tend to clog up easily no matter how well they are cleaned out. I managed a bit of work last night, I've refitted the bufferbeam the correct way round (don't know how I managed to get that wrong). The splasher tops curved and fitted very well and I've fitted the dummy frames to the underside of the footplate at the front. These bits will form the cab floor and cab splashers.
  7. I think a loco like that should have a bit of a wobble. Yes it would be a shame to paint it but you're going to have to...
  8. 4 downloads of a photo of a brass loco footplate in 30 mins, amazing.

  9. For those of you that have seen my recent posts in my coaches thread will have seen some ex NER clerestory coaches and this reply :- Well here it is. It's a London Road Models, ex Steve Barnfield NER class M/Q - LNER D17. It will be built as an ex class Q with the clerestory roof as mentioned in Jonathan's post. http://www.lner.info/locos/D/d17.shtml Probably one of the most elegant locos ever built. Inner splashers folded up, buffer beam fitted, drag beam folded down and footplate valances fitted. There are also some strengthening pieces fitted under the footplate as this is very weak near the front of the splashers. Inner cab folded up and spectacles fitted. there are a series of alternating tabs on the inner splashers and inner cab to align these. Splasher/cab overlays fitted, these leave a rebate to fit the splasher top into.

  18. The tender is just about there. I've painted it black with a Humbrol black aerosol, the first time I've used their paint - I've used lots of varnish - and it is very good, a fine spray and it dries very matt. I've started to paint the buffer beam red but I haven't fitted the buffers yet as the tender needed to be painted first as there is no way to fit the heads after the stocks - there isn't enough room to get in - these will be fitted after painting is complete.
  19. Sorry, 1) should read - Yes, you just need to measure carefully so they are parallel. Should have read the question properly...
  20. 1) No, you just need to measure carefully so they are parallel. 2) Hardly any, they sit quite well. Edit, 1) should read - Yes, you just need to measure carefully so they are parallel.
