  1. Very nice Rob, very neat soldering and those chains really look the part.
  2. Yeah, there could be 10 pies in a package that size. BUT, if it was pies, would it have lasted long enough to be photographed unopened?
  3. Lovely stuff Arthur, great to see another north east layout. Looking at the G5 and clerestorys and then looking up at my shelf and thinking 'nearly there'. D17 looks OK, mine will probably be in that livery...
  4. This one was one that went into Darlington works and was sent back to CREWE with Darlington style numbering - on the tank side...
  5. Got a little distracted this last day or so... Standard Bachmann 3F, renumbered to sort of represent this one. http://upload.wikime...%2C_1928%29.jpg. No numbers on the smokebox yet, the ones on the transfer sheet are wonky. Weathered with powders and given a blast of Humbrol matt varnish. And in full colour.
  6. Sean, they look like the D&S ones, the same as I used, I doubt very much that they will be available at the moment as I don't think they went to MSE with the signal parts. You could try writing to Danny Pinnock in the off chance that he might have some, don't bother Googleing.
  7. I asked a 'Manufacturer' about garden wall bond once and the curt reply I got was that railway buildings weren't built that way...
  8. A North Eastern Southern division one from me. Built many years ago when I was nowt but a lad, built from plasticard, D&S locking room windows and Wills interior. It's a bit battered now but I still quite like it. The layout it was built for never happened and since then I've only built Northern and Central division layouts. I'm quite happy looking at it on the shelf though. Is that Signalman Nicholson on the steps?
  9. D17 chassis on the rolling road and running well.

  10. Due to a (very good) works night out at the Moon & Sixpence last night, less than 4 hours sleep followed by a full day at work - I'm shattered...

  11. Still so far to go - The best of Chris Rea. Do not awaken love - Alice Watts (EP) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-kOfOgq2jMg&feature=feedfbc
  12. For a loader I would go for the Fordson/Chaseside from Langley although mention of the Weatherill loader has reminded me of when I had the 'pleasure' of driving one of these http://www.kilkennymotorclub.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/07/w1.jpg quite regularly, it would be a lot bigger than the coal yard type, it had a 180hp Leyland engine and the only realistic brakes were to throw it into reverse or drop the bucket.
  13. Lovely job Mick, about time you had some way of controlling all those signals, don't think the bobby looks much like you though...
  14. Sorry Les, I can't think of any words to describe this... :sungum:
  15. Class 142 - the railway's equivalent of the Top Gear back up car...

that is probably the best thing ive heard all day :D

  16. The smokebox has the option of superheated (long) or saturated (short), as I am building the kit as superheated the wrappers are left whole, a strip needs to be cut off for the saturated version. The smokebox front and back each have a tab at the top and the inner wrapper (seen in photo) has slots in it to locate them, this went a lot better than I expected. The outer wrapper is sweated over this and has no slots. The boiler has a number of tabs at each end, these fit into slots in the smokebox and cab. Quite a lot of material had to be removed from the boiler to clear the wheels in 00. Still quite a bit to do to the boiler. Wheels, motor and gearbox fitted and it runs very smoothly. I've never built anything with wheels this big before and they seemed a bit daunting at first (there's only a few locos with wheels bigger than these), but the seem to have gone on really well.
  17. Signal cabin for Felton Lane, Cliburn or Warcop? I'm leaning towards Cliburn.

Yes, do Cliburn, that amazing survivor!

Links to photos in Felton Lane thread, currently 3-0 to Cliburn.

Found out a few years ago from the excellent Peter Walton book that Cliburn and Belah boxes both survived and followed that up by a visit to the area.

  18. I got this when it came out, yes very good. Had this album on a couple of times in the car this week, just about as good as 'Lungs'. Listening to Imelda May's Mayhem today. Eternity. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VWOiCHqCtRw&feature=related
  19. Got some done Dave, also doing some trackwork on Felton Lane. Updates when we know this lot has settled down.
  20. Doug, Good luck with your G5 and coaches and maybe a D17 one day? They still aren't gone yet! 1621 still looks as good as ever at the NRM, it was withdrawn in July 1945 and two others lasted till February 1948. Ron, that looks superb! Mick, Chris Gibbons recommended it would be the best - as long as it would fit of course, which it does.
  21. The wheelbase for both the D17 & D20 is 6' 6", I believe this is common to most NER bogie locos, the D17 has 3' 7 1/4" wheels and the D20 has 4'. So the LNWR one won't be any use, Comet do a 6' 6" one, although it probably won't look right, scratch building would be an easy enough option for a simple bogie if all else fails.
